Yeah same here, the turn based combat really got me interested in it on the 3DS but I was too late to the party on that one lol. It looks gorgeous too, let me know if you pick it up!
Hellblade is also fantastic, but not really an RPG. Just mentioning it as it might still be appreciated by the same audience. Front Mission is good too, but people under 30 probably won't appreciate that one.
I own most of these on switch or pc. Monark got a major hit to what I am willing to pay with no English audio. Ys 8, i will probably get on steam at some point. Digimon Survive I almost grabbed when it was $17 at gamestop but I wasn't going to pay $8 in shipping. At the same time, it means that I'm not willing to pay more than like, $20 for it now.
I've actually never heard of Ultra Age before this video so thanks for putting it on my radar! Also, nice to see you giving some love to Digimon Survive because it definitely is a solid game that got way more hate than it deserved.
I had funny thing with Xenoblade Torna. Around a year and six months ago I've searched for Xenoblade 2, but with not success of finding it. Then I found a store that had Xenoblade Torna. I was like "fine... I'll get Torna, at least I'll enjoy that...". Then the magical things happens; When I ask the store sellers to bring me the item, they somehow bring me Xenoblade 2- not Torna, but 2. I was so happy that it was a mistake on their site and got in the end what I've been searching for. And I still don't have Torna. 😆

Great list dude, I mostly game on the PlayStation but any game you talk about I look up to see if it's a PlayStation port well besides Nintendo made games LOL. I know you play a lot of JRPGs but ever want to try out West RPGs I think there is a few on Switch?

I’ve been sleeping on Ultra Age too but your recommendation convinced me so I’m going to reserve it too and finally play it. I got Digimon Survive for $17 on Black Friday. Also you responded to a comment of mine a few weeks ago and asked for my thoughts on Xenoblade 3 once I beat it. After a few months I FINALLY lol beat it two days ago. I LOVED it. I still think Xenogears is the best Xeno game but Xenoblade 3 was really good. I loved how close the six main characters got to each other especially considering how they got together. Awesome video as always, brother.

Got the platinum for Blue Reflection: Second Light a few months ago and I can definitely recommend that game as well. I had a lot of fun with it and the music was amazing. Especially the theme in Shihos stage had a very nostalgic effect on me

Ys Origin is such a fantastic mention here! As a prequel to The Vanished Omens I always tell people it’s the perfect feet wetter for the Ys series. Ys 8! Er Mer Gerd yes! You already know how much I love Ys 8! I will never get tired of my boy Adol! I too got every possible ending and played on switch. Not a single issue on my end. Nino Kuni was a day one Buy for me back on PS3. Such a great game! I recently added Nino Kuni 2 to my backlog so I will definitely be enjoying that soon. I can honestly say I wasn’t aware that monster Hunter stories was turnbased! 😱 Thats awesome! I can see my wallet getting light and lighter haha Thanks again for sharing another slew of fanatic games!

Ys VIII was so good, I couldn't believe it. Start to finish, completely amazing. This will seem overboard to some, but I consider it on the level of Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest VIII. The charm factor is high, music is perfect, combat is fast and fun, I loved the story (Dana is one of the best characters ever)... Can't say enough.
Nice recommendations! I got some of them digitally a way back because of their steep prices for physical copies! Torna and MH Stories 2 as an example... Never heard of Ultra Age before but I'll have to look into it! I should receive my PS4 copy of Monark by the end of next week! It takes a while as it's still full price over here in Canada, so I ask my friend who lives in the States to get games when there are some crazy GS deals and once he has a box full, he ships it to me! Got to save money however we can when collecting games lol! Great video and keep up the good work!

Ys VIII, in my opinion, is one of the greatest video games (not just RPG's) I've *ever* played. I've said this very thing on other videos and I stand by it. I'd easily put up there with Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest VIII as one of the best RPGs ever conceived. I've played a ton of RPGs over the years and almost always, there's always several characters I don't care for. But Ys VIII... holy moly. I can't think of a single character, main or NPC, that I flat-out dislike. I even like Sir Carlan! And the main cast is one of the most likeable and endearing in all of gaming. If you've never played it... Oh my gracious, you need to. It's one of the most fun, cohesive, unforgettable games you could ever play. The gushing praise it gets exists for a reason by those who have played it. It's *THAT* good. True, you might get the occasional person who doesn't click with it. That happens. But most who have played it have discovered a real gaming treasure.

Shin megami V, neo world ends with you, Diofield chronicle, disgaea, 5, neir, automata, tactics ogre, and Tokyo mirage #FE are all excellent JRPG/TRPG games that are cheap physically that I love
Where do you get this info about European reprints from? Ys8 and Death End Re;quest 2 are 55-70 euro on European Amazon currently. I collect and trade a lot of games and those are not good prices at all for Europe. Those prices are indicative of a game that is out of print. And Ys8 is actually out of stock right now. Getting them for that price in Europe is not a good deal. They've always been available in local retail shops for 50-60 euro with minor discounts every now and then (and in case of DER;Q secondhand much cheaper). Paying 50-60 for them was never an issue, it's just that people do not want to pay that much and are holding out for better prices. 35-40 euro is the "good price" range at which limited print games start flying off the shelves, but if you are patient and have connections you'd hope to find them even cheaper. Just curious, maybe I completely missed something. :) I haven't heard of any reprints nor seen any recent changes in their price and availability. Thanks for the video! I don't want to bash Y's VIII. But it didn't click with me, but i can see why it's good. I played Y's Ark of Napishtim on PS2 back in the day when it was first released, it was my first Y's and a love it. Is Y's Origins more like that or are der more Y's games like Ark?
I’ve literally just ordered Blue reflection second light physical for £18.95 which is about $23!! I loved YS VIII on switch but weirdly found some of the grass textures made my eyes go funny! As I got it digital on sale a couple years ago I decided to treat myself to the PS5 version that came out and I got it for £30 and it also included a mini soundtrack and mini art book! Both games were from a site called The Game Collection, which I can’t recommend enough to people in the UK. Not sure if available anywhere else.

I'm been picking up a lot of cheap rpgs lately... I got Digimon collection on switch , tales berseria tales zesteria and ni ko Kuni on ps4... each game was 18 or 19 bucks
Hmmm I got monster hunter stories 1 but someday I will have to find someone who is really good at taking care of their 3ds or something. I'm trying to play my 2ds xl nice and slowly just to play fire emblem echoes and monster hunter stories. Also the rest of my games one last time. Damn I missed the 3ds games and I wish I could play Pokemon white again but nope they don't got it anymore.( Question does Monark still has frame ploblem on the switch)
Although I bought it many months ago, I finally got around to start playing Trials of Mana. I got it quite cheap physically (~$25) and I’m quite enjoying it! I actually tried to buy Monark, as it went on sale for $20 at GameStop and I had gotten a recommendation to pick up the game. I found a physical copy in store, brought it to the counter to buy it, but the cashier couldn’t actually find the game cartridge (it was one of those “new but the case has been opened and the contents are kept behind the counter” games), so I left the store empty-handed 😔. You’ve also got me intrigued now with those Y’s games, I’mma look into those.
Awe... I'm sorry that didn't work out for you. I had some issues getting a copy as well. But psyched you got Trials of Mana! That game is bangin! You'll have to let me know what ya think of the Ys games, they are really some of my favorite action rpg games.

Ys Origin was superb. I played 8 on Vita, but I do want to get it on Switch also. Ultra Age is one I've heard tons of praise for. Monarch and Torna were both recently added to the backlog.
I can't second the recommendation of Shin Megami Tensei V enough, that game is one of my absolute favorites and it is extremely satisfying to play. The press-turn combat system is pretty much tuned to perfection in this game and the addition of the demon essence system and items to enhance elemental affinities for your demons add new dimensions to creating custom demons in SMT and it is a great deal of fun to experiment. Of course, this made creating my own Super Pixie an irresistible prospect. 😆I'll also add that the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster is fairly inexpensive on the Switch, you can usually get a new copy in the $25-$30 range. That's another classic SMT game and I'll have to restrain myself from talking further about it here, otherwise I'll go on some long nerdy rant about how much I love that game. Ys Origin and Ys VIII are also excellent on the Switch, I highly recommend those as well. I ended up picking up both of the Death end re; Quest games during a GOG sale earlier this year. While I still have yet to play them, they look very interesting and I definitely will be checking them out in the future.

@@elchicharron9503 I love Ys IX as well. The Ys series is full of great games and Ys VIII and Ys IX are both among my favorites. Between the PC and Switch versions, I've finished Ys IX five times since it has been released and I've had a blast on every playthrough. It is indeed an excellent game.
Just a question about Ni No Kuni. Do I need to play part 1 before 2? I've actually had 2 for some time but I haven't started it yet. So I just wanna know if I can if not I'm gonna grab part 1 before I start.

Speaking on Ni no Kuni 1, I still have to get around to checking out Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn. It's the DS original of Ni no Kuni 1. Never localized, just a fan translation. It's a grid based RPG that's more tactics based from what I've been told.

Yeah I know what you mean about Monark, I wanted to wait for a sale as well. I have seen Wario64 tweet that Dragon Star will have extremely random stock replacements on amazon. But it is kinda rare. I'll try and make a community post or something if I see it gets a restock.
I'll say it....... Ys 8 is a masterpiece!! Now if only Ys 9 could get some reprints and come down in price that would be awesome. Also thanks for clarifying why I was able to get Torna for such a good price on Amazon recently. I had no idea it was getting a PAL reprint. If they could reprint Hades as well that help.
Ys IX is getting the PS5 treatment like we just saw for VIII, due out early next year. Switch pact edition is available in NA on Amazon for 49.99 right now. I enjoyed it a lot on my plat journey through the ps4 version! While it isn't as amazing as VIII, it was still a ton of fun! Good luck and enjoy!

isn't ultra age more like a devil may cry/bayonetta/ninja gaiden action game? I wouldn't really categorize it as an action rpg since it belongs to the action hack n slash genre
I've played through the demo of Ultra Age. Easily the best 3D combat I've played in my life so far. Add the bass pumping soundtrack & it makes Ultra Age pure fun!
SMT5 is amazing on all fronts.. the soundtrack even! I love everything about it. Death End games I have you to thank for telling me about awhile back! I hadn't really looked into Monarch but I'll probably add it to the backlog :) The other games are already there, Ultra Age included. Backlog is atrocious but hey I'm a collector.

Awesome video and couldn't agree more about how amazing SMT V is, a word of warning on playing it as your first SMT game though, I think it'll make getting into previous games like Nocturne all the more difficult since V has so many quality of life conveniences and such smooth difficulty progression!

We don't need a list like this. If you are poor, you shouldn't be a gamer, period. If $40-$70 "breaks the bank" for you, you have MUCH bigger issues in your life.
I'm disappointed you recommended Death End Re; quest. While the gameplay I found interesting, I'm not sure you actually played the game if you say you enjoyed the story. Alot of the cut scenes aren't voice acted, many parts in cut scenes have no pictures when it would make a great impact, choices that lead to death are nonsensical, and my biggest gripe being that despite them bragging about the gore, there happens to be very little of it. Perhaps I've spoiled myself on more quality visual novels. But alot of other good recommendations were there. I do however, appreciate you letting me know Shin Megami Tensai was on sale.

A lot of people are sleeping on Shining Force Resonance. It's got great anime artstyle and the battle mechanics are pretty good and simple.
Y's origin is on my list to get. I seen it on Amazon for $30 and plan on getting it in a month.

I'd just recommend more platinum games like Bayonetta and Astral Chain.
Where do you get this info about European reprints from? Ys8 and Death End Re;quest 2 are 55-70 euro on European Amazon currently.
I collect and trade a lot of games and those are not good prices at all for Europe. Those prices are indicative of a game that is out of print. And Ys8 is actually out of stock right now. Getting them for that price in Europe is not a good deal. They've always been available in local retail shops for 50-60 euro with minor discounts every now and then (and in case of DER;Q secondhand much cheaper). Paying 50-60 for them was never an issue, it's just that people do not want to pay that much and are holding out for better prices. 35-40 euro is the "good price" range at which limited print games start flying off the shelves, but if you are patient and have connections you'd hope to find them even cheaper.
Just curious, maybe I completely missed something. :) I haven't heard of any reprints nor seen any recent changes in their price and availability.

I don't want to bash Y's VIII. But it didn't click with me, but i can see why it's good. I played Y's Ark of Napishtim on PS2 back in the day when it was first released, it was my first Y's and a love it. Is Y's Origins more like that or are der more Y's games like Ark?
I’ve literally just ordered Blue reflection second light physical for £18.95 which is about $23!! I loved YS VIII on switch but weirdly found some of the grass textures made my eyes go funny! As I got it digital on sale a couple years ago I decided to treat myself to the PS5 version that came out and I got it for £30 and it also included a mini soundtrack and mini art book! Both games were from a site called The Game Collection, which I can’t recommend enough to people in the UK. Not sure if available anywhere else.

I'm been picking up a lot of cheap rpgs lately... I got Digimon collection on switch , tales berseria tales zesteria and ni ko Kuni on ps4... each game was 18 or 19 bucks
Hmmm I got monster hunter stories 1 but someday I will have to find someone who is really good at taking care of their 3ds or something. I'm trying to play my 2ds xl nice and slowly just to play fire emblem echoes and monster hunter stories. Also the rest of my games one last time. Damn I missed the 3ds games and I wish I could play Pokemon white again but nope they don't got it anymore.( Question does Monark still has frame ploblem on the switch)

Although I bought it many months ago, I finally got around to start playing Trials of Mana. I got it quite cheap physically (~$25) and I’m quite enjoying it!
I actually tried to buy Monark, as it went on sale for $20 at GameStop and I had gotten a recommendation to pick up the game. I found a physical copy in store, brought it to the counter to buy it, but the cashier couldn’t actually find the game cartridge (it was one of those “new but the case has been opened and the contents are kept behind the counter” games), so I left the store empty-handed 😔.
You’ve also got me intrigued now with those Y’s games, I’mma look into those.

I can't second the recommendation of Shin Megami Tensei V enough, that game is one of my absolute favorites and it is extremely satisfying to play. The press-turn combat system is pretty much tuned to perfection in this game and the addition of the demon essence system and items to enhance elemental affinities for your demons add new dimensions to creating custom demons in SMT and it is a great deal of fun to experiment. Of course, this made creating my own Super Pixie an irresistible prospect. 😆I'll also add that the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster is fairly inexpensive on the Switch, you can usually get a new copy in the $25-$30 range. That's another classic SMT game and I'll have to restrain myself from talking further about it here, otherwise I'll go on some long nerdy rant about how much I love that game.
Ys Origin and Ys VIII are also excellent on the Switch, I highly recommend those as well. I ended up picking up both of the Death end re; Quest games during a GOG sale earlier this year. While I still have yet to play them, they look very interesting and I definitely will be checking them out in the future.

Ys 9 was also fun. Much better than reviewers suggested. I'd give the edge to 8, but not by a wide margin.

@@elchicharron9503 I love Ys IX as well. The Ys series is full of great games and Ys VIII and Ys IX are both among my favorites. Between the PC and Switch versions, I've finished Ys IX five times since it has been released and I've had a blast on every playthrough. It is indeed an excellent game.

I played SMT5 in 2021 and was my favorite RPG that year. There is a certain extra boss that I have yet to beat 😌

Speaking on Ni no Kuni 1, I still have to get around to checking out Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn. It's the DS original of Ni no Kuni 1. Never localized, just a fan translation. It's a grid based RPG that's more tactics based from what I've been told.

I’m tempted by Monark - i passed on it at release but ut looks like it’s come down enough to buy now. Over here it’s £35. Pretty reasonable. I wish we’d get a general release for dragon star varnir those LRG versions are going north of £80 on eBay!

Ys IX is getting the PS5 treatment like we just saw for VIII, due out early next year. Switch pact edition is available in NA on Amazon for 49.99 right now. I enjoyed it a lot on my plat journey through the ps4 version! While it isn't as amazing as VIII, it was still a ton of fun! Good luck and enjoy!

SMT5 is amazing on all fronts.. the soundtrack even! I love everything about it. Death End games I have you to thank for telling me about awhile back! I hadn't really looked into Monarch but I'll probably add it to the backlog :) The other games are already there, Ultra Age included. Backlog is atrocious but hey I'm a collector.

Awesome video and couldn't agree more about how amazing SMT V is, a word of warning on playing it as your first SMT game though, I think it'll make getting into previous games like Nocturne all the more difficult since V has so many quality of life conveniences and such smooth difficulty progression!

I'm disappointed you recommended Death End Re; quest. While the gameplay I found interesting, I'm not sure you actually played the game if you say you enjoyed the story. Alot of the cut scenes aren't voice acted, many parts in cut scenes have no pictures when it would make a great impact, choices that lead to death are nonsensical, and my biggest gripe being that despite them bragging about the gore, there happens to be very little of it. Perhaps I've spoiled myself on more quality visual novels. But alot of other good recommendations were there. I do however, appreciate you letting me know Shin Megami Tensai was on sale.
