    Great introduction to your Malaysian trip. Years ago my nextdoor neighbours in London were a Malaysian (originally from Penang) and her English husband. They regularly used to invite me in for dinner. I absolutely loved the food she prepared and still have fond memories of it and those fun times we shared. Enjoy your journey through Malaysia.

    Have a stop in my hometown Alor Setar the capital of Kedah and for your info, Langkawi is actually a part of Kedah even though it's situated next to the state of Perlis. Kedah is actually the oldest state in Malaysia and Alor Setar is the oldest city in Malaysia. A fact in history that's just been discovered after the discovery of the oldest archaeological site in South East Asia right here in Kedah. It's even older than Angkor Watt and Borobudur. It's called the Sungai Batu Archaeological Site. Kedah also is the Rice Bowl of Malaysia cause we're the largest rice provider for Malaysia where most of our land here are rice fields. That's just a bit about Kedah. Langkawi is actually the only place famous from Kedah but the mainland Kedah itself not so much. That's why most foreigners just skip us altogether and went straight to Penang if they enter Malaysia from Thailand either through the land border or by the sea like you guys did. Have fun and do enjoy yourself while you're here in Malaysia 😷😁👍💖👍🥰😷

      Alor Setar Or Kedah as a state (except for Langkawi) is very underrated. In fact most of the northern Malaysian States like Kelantan, Terengganu are underrated. Not sure why that is the case.
      But I really loved my time in Alor Setar. Its a very laid back city having great Malay traditional food and a big Clock tower as well :)

    It's the traditional malay style meal: _nasi campur_ (mixed rice) meaning we have the basic plate of rice then we add onto the same plate whatever protein, veges, and side dishes that we want. Unless the plate is too full already then we'd use another plate for the add-on dish. Usually the basic plate of white rice costs 50sen - rm1 or rm1.50 probably nowadays. Then a piece of chicken may cost around rm4. One helping of vege is probably rm2. Side dish maybe rm1-2.
    For malays it's traditionally by hand (not the left hand though, except for eg only to assist in holding temporarily a food item) while the malaysian chinese traditionally use chopsticks even when eating rice (but from a bowl compared to from a plate for malays)

    Never visited Langkawi though I did go to KL and Georgetown in Penang. The people there were friendly and I got treated better than I did in Thailand. But they probably looked at me and thought I was arab even though I'm not lol. I used to get asked occasionally whether i belonged to their religion I remember to which I would politely decline.

      Use hand has benefit (or power) on stopping or slowing down cars. I think this is almost universal, people do it in the US, in the UK and I believe in other countries as well. But in malaysia in particular, I advise against doing it to: 1)a bus/lorry, 2)a motorbike, 3)a car approaching at high speed, 4)any vehicle manned by a blind, or visually impaired person 😂

      @@macjoseph9735 It's not insecure, the correct term is indeed Malaysian, not Malay. Same if you travel to US, you can't just say "Black American", "Black American" just to refer to Americans.

    • @macjoseph9735
      @macjoseph9735 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nutzhazel Yeah I completely understand that. Having lived in Malaysia for a few years I know the race thing is pretty complicated. The problem is when people react as soon they realise that even by the smallest of margin their race is being put down.
      If religion is made by gods then race is made by humans and we should not really be offended by these things.

    Absolutely true about traffic. Went for my undergrad training in KL Hospital Accident& Emergency dept. During rainy days, the stationed nurses were constantly on their toes because they got all sort of scary motor vehicle accident cases-missing legs, cracked maxillofacial bones. Generally, road safety and etiquette in Malaysia are still poor.
