Gary Brooker and the Munich Chamber Opera Orchestra
conducted by Eberhard Schoener at the Circus Krone building in Munich.
Recorded from a six hours live transmission on German TV on
12 Nov. 1980

Originally released on Procol’s second album SHINE ON BRIGHTLY (1968), "In Held 'Twas In I" saw it's orchestrated coming out on the highly successful LIVE WITH THE EDMONTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA album (1972).
Eberhard Schoener (who had toured with Procol Harum, his Munich Chamber Opera Orchestra and the Toelzer Boys Choir in Germany, Austria and Switzerland 1972) invited Gary for his first CLASSICAL ROCK NIGHT in Munich. The mammooth concert was transmitted on TV in 16 countries, full length, six hours. Other guests were Mike Batt, Esther Ofarim, Andy Mackay, Mel Collins, Jon Anderson, Darryl Way.
There has never been a retransmission of this event and private VHS recorders at that time were rare! So this may be the only surviving tape
of this "In Held 'Twas In I" featuring B.J.Wilson !!

I've always loved Procol Harum since the 60's when I was young and foolish. Now my only claim to wisdom is that I know nothing. But Procol Harum eases the pain of getting old.

Gary Brookers vocals are incredibly beautiful. BJ Wilson sadly hidden mostly but you can hear him at least. I’ve always loved the 2nd side of their 2nd album, mostly for these epic tracks. I couldn’t stop crying when I first listened to “this” when I was 13 or 14. Their music touches hearts and souls. I feel this group saved me from deviancy, homelessness, and Kept me SANE! Oh wow Gary and BJ…..

Yeah, and don't forget this Album Side was a collaboration with Keith Reid Lyrics (monologue), and organ parts by Mathew Fisher, including unassailable original lead guitar parts by Robin Trower.

A masterpiece I fell in love with this composition in 1968 and it still movess me in 2022. Gary in suberb voice. The guitar player is excellent.

His style could not and cannot be matched. I saw him play live 3 times. Each time I was totally gobsmacked.I have seen so many of the greatest drummers and B.J. has and always will be my favorite.

I can hardly believe what I've just seen! I have waited about a half a century to see video of a live performance of this one with a full orchestra--------it was worth the wait!!! The people in that hall that night were, without a doubt, the very luckiest people on the planet that night! Thank you so much for this.I have had the pleasure of seeing this performed live on two occasions (The Rainbow and the last concert at the London Palladium).This is certainly an epic Procol Harum song ,and Gary was well supported on this performance.

yes, than called " Classic Rock night" . Not to be mistaken by the highly commercial belgian/dutch format established in the late 80s or early 90s.

Especially enjoy Paul Vincent on guitar . This is a very tight performance really considering the huge number of musicians. Missing Gary and Keith Reid. Saw them so long ago ,... but each time seems like just yesterday. Whatt an Amazing Album side, and epic performance. They were the 1st and last to do something like this, because they were unique!
