    Thanks for the comment, glad the video helped you out. My 11" DD coil came in yesterday and I went for a short hunt with it. Target separation seems better with it and target ID is as accurate as it was with the stock coil. I will try to do a recovery speed video with the DD and post it in the next few days.

    Hey Chadd thanks for putting this vid up. I can't think of a better way to demonstrate the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 and its features than the way you've outlined here in this video. There are so many things you've made us aware of that had to have been hours of research trial and error on your part that we can just verify for ourselves and have fun doing it.
    I bought my 3300 Discovery metal detector to locate and find screws and yard pins that I drop on the ground in my yard that I hoped my lawn mower doesn't discover before using my metal detector.
    Costco is selling it now for $99.

    Great informational video. I hope you have more that you can show with actually finding some items. Best of luck. I picked two of these up for the wife and I last winter, now just hoping since the snow is gone that we can get out and enjoy using them. I’m sure others may say that you need a bigger coil or higher end model, but the features that this one has it’s hard to complain.
    Again very good job explaining some of the features of this unit.

      Yep it is hard to get the time to go out and hunt, seems like all we do is run with the kids so not much time for Detecting. The 3300 is easy to use and has enough features but isn't overwhelming to learn. Get one of the DD coils and it is hard to beat imo.

    Thanks for the videos. I'm looking for a detector and I'm debating between BH 3300, Delta 4000 or a EurotekPro. Difficult to decide. Each detector have its good and not-so-good moments being the 3300 seems to have the most features between all 3 and the target separation might be a win-win plus the ground balancing might could over-look the recovery being a little sluggish. I don't see any problem with the VDI number on the 3300 though I read the other two are suppose to be really good in that regard, so it hard to decide. Anyways, thanks for the videos, the BH 3300 seems the best so far in my mind. Sorry for my English as am Russian.

    • @chaddthompson
      @chaddthompson  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you turn the GB knob to the left after you ground balance it the detector will start screaming at you. If you turn it to the right as I did it doesn't. I don't really run the detector with the GB all the way to the right while searching, but if I find a weak signal I will sometimes turn it all the way to the right and it will pick up the deep item a bit better.

    i have this detector and i have issues with it beeping when I swing from side to side...does this mean I just need to ground balance better.?...its used no manual came with it

    • @chaddthompson
      @chaddthompson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never experienced this with my 3300 but I have seen it on my DFX a few times. Does it beep at the end of the swing when transitioning from one direction to the other? If so you may want to check that your rod and coil are tight and if so you may also want to turn the sensitivity down a little.

  • @chaddthompson
    @chaddthompson  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hope you get it out and find some good stuff.

  • @chaddthompson
    @chaddthompson  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only times I have noticed any falsing with the detector is if the coil hits something while sweeping or if you have the sensitivity up too high it will sometimes false at the end of your swing as you change back to the other direction on the swing. A good ground balance will help with the falsing at the end of your swing. As far as it falsing when hitting something with the coil you can turn down the sensitivity to help but I think it is just the nature of the 3300.

    I bought this unit and love the features but depth is only about 4 inches. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Should I switch to a different coil for coin and jewelry? Help!

    • @chaddthompson
      @chaddthompson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on ground and target types you should be able to get quite a bit more than 4". You need to make sure you have it ground balanced correctly for your soil then adjust your sensitivity as high as you can without getting false signals. As far as jewelry goes silver will normally be a good hit but gold will a lot of times show up as trash, foil, pull tab etc. The DD coil can give you a bit more depth and make separating targets a bit easier. The biggest thing is just getting out and using it and digging a lot of targets until you figure out what the detector is telling you.

    Don't worry about it positively identifying large iron as a high number/tone Most, if not all detectors, tone i.d. or single-tone, screen-type or not, will find the large iron and will make the operator think it's a good diggable target. Similar to the problem with bottlecaps and large can slaw or large aluminum foil. The pinpointing trick you used is a trick inherent in all detectors new or old. It's a universal phenomenon called nulling (grounding out everything but what's in proximity of the coil). Even the old 'lunchbox' disc. detectors from the 70s can do this. Pretty nice trick though, nonetheless! By the way, the recovery speed problem (IS) the size of the coil (AND) the detection circuit that almost all, if not all BHs use. All First Texas products have this inherent shortcoming from the cheaper sub-$100 Tracker IVs and such, all the way up to the Fisher F75s/Teknetics T2 LTDs. The smaller 4" coil should help a little but what's basically a speed programming shortcoming will not completely be fixed with just using a small 'sniper' coil. By the way, many people think a small 'sniper' is whimpy and can't hit the deep targets but (think again)..... They can go as deep or deeper than large coils (depending) once again, on the detection transmit power of the machine itself and the brand/model.

But...today I went to the beach after a big storm and searched around the 2 foot drop off where the erosion occured. All I got was a ton of 199 signals. Total confusion to me. Should I go back and dig those because they might be coins at a depth that give a false numerical reading? I was blaming the ground balance and thinking the pig iron was messing with me. Unless they have changed the connector on the 3300 you need to get one with push on connector. This is the one that I have www.metaldetector.com/fisher-11-dd-search-coil-f2-f4-push-in-connector

      Hey thanks for the response and the link.
      Wow that coil costs more than the whole unit. Right now you can get a Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 at Costco for $99

    It sounds like there's a problem between ground balance and target id.

    Try a Rutus Jupiter from Great Britain or a 'home-grown' machine like the Teknetics Omega 8000, G2, or a Fisher F2, F4, F5, F70, F75 as these a fairly quick machines. As far as lightning-quick recovery times are concerned, it's like a Whites MXT on steroids. Gives you a screen like your Bounty Hunter and looks very much to be a copy of the MXT from Whites but with much faster recovery speeds than the Whites. I know how slow the recovery speeds on these Bounty Hunters are. I own a Bounty Hunter Time Ranger and it is slow like the one you're using. This means good targets (will) be missed if we're in too big of a hurry. Good targets will also be masked by bad targets right next to them. These Bounty Hunters (3300, Time Ranger, Land Ranger, Tracker IV, etc.) could use a (major) reworking of their internal (and factory preset; unfortunately) electronics which manage the recovery speed of these machines. They are all 'duds' in this department unfortunately. It's too bad Bounty Hunter packed all the versatility with their features into these machines but then allowed them to be slow. What a shame.

      Prairie G Yep they could be improved upon for sure. I swap back and forth between the 3300 and my Whites DXF. I can't say that I really find more with the DXF but it is far more flexible for different conditions.

      Can't beat that price. If you can find one pick up a DD coil for it.

    What is the best cheapest metal detector?

      Richard Lamberth Hmm there are a lot of detectors out there, you can pick up the BH tracker IV pretty reasonable. It is a good basic detector, I used one for quite a while and I have one for my Daugther to use sometimes.

      @The Truth That You Cannot Handle There are a lot of good inexpensive machines out, it's hard to keep up with them all.

      @The Truth That You Cannot Handle I agree 100% with that IMO a machine has to have the ability to manually ground balance.
