As a kid growing up i always loved to smile, i was always proud of my teeth and loved to flash a smile whenever i could. As i got older my teeth started to really take a turn on me. When i was 16 it really hit hard. I couldn't smile anymore because my teeth were breaking even from eating a dorito. I was born with a calcium deficiency and i'm also lactose intolerant so i had to take calcium pills and they didnt work, I was absolutely depressed from this. I could't smile, laugh or anything without covering my face or feeling ashamed of what my teeth looked like. I felt ugly and so embarrassed as a human being. I lived with all that you described in this video for 5 years. One day my dad saved up enough money so i could get my teeth fixed, the dentist didnt know what to do because of the shape they were in. I felt absolutely broken. I told him to please do all he could no matter what because i wanted to be comfortable around people again and smile, i didnt care about the pain. 70+ shots in my gums, 30 fillings, 8 x-rays, 6 teeth pulled, over the past year and a half of my appointments, it was finally over. My teeth till this day arent in the best shape and ill have to have dentures by the time im 30 and im only 22, i still smile because i went through so much pain mentally and physically. It was worth it, but it will be something i have to do for the rest of my life or until i do have dentures. Every day i laid in bed in pain, with cuts and repairs and bleeding from all of the work done to my mouth. I watched your channel. You made me laugh and gave me entertainment when i felt like a fucking loser and i felt like an abnormal human being. You made those painful days better and i want to thank you for it.

You know, Zack, I have only been watching your videos for around a year now but it feels like you've been a daily part of my life for a lot longer. I remember the first video I saw, where you got people on your stream when you discovered the magical fruit hat.. I've played wow since vanilla and I'm only 20, so wow has pretty much always been a part of my life. That said, I had never really been involved in the wow community. I mostly played with my dad and some people from school. I had dropped off in my involvement in wow for a while and it was you that made me come back.. I had watched sodapoppin videos a long time ago, but his videos, and the videos on most other prominent Warcraft channels didn't do for me what you seem to capture on your channel. I've always appreciated your perspective on things. Everything you have to say seems to resonate with a part of me I feel like not many people understand.
I really became invested in your channel during your iron man challenge days. I sent your ironman character mail with an inside joke that I had between me and some of my friends, and they lost their shit when they heard you mention the infamous "Pasta Palace". Soon after that I had a series of run-ins with you in battlegrounds, and even though you wrecked my shit it was a cool experience to see you in game. I bought BDO just to join Murica and have the opportunity to play with you.

I've seen twitch channels die because they stopped streaming for a week. It wouldn't happen to asmongold because he has a big following, but it's still quite a long time for the internet. It's hard to stay relevant on the internet.
It makes me quite sad to see that average guys like you cannot afford health care in your country. It's really fucked up from my perspective. I know I know, you American's keep pressing against this issue since "nothing is free" but if everyone needs it, why not have it for everyone. The medical prices in the US are partly as fucked up as they are simply because you as a customer have very little negotiation possibilities whereas as a country's health care system you can discuss every penny on certain procedures.

Actually genetics play a big role on the longevity of people's teeth. Yes personal care is a factor, but genetics are an equally important factor.
Secondly, if your genetic line is prone to decay, root canals & crowns , with insurance, can still average out to be $500-$1,000 per tooth. Which it sounds like Asmon is supporting himself, that's a lot of money for a young 20s adult.

Holy fuck man.. I can't even describe how much i can relate to you. When i was 15, i lost my 4 front teeth and 2 low teeth. I got tackled during football and hit the steel fences face first... I couldn't afford to get it fixed, i couldn't go out anymore. Something that's so easily fixed ruined my whole life. I quit HS , i didn't go out anymore. All i wanted was to be home and play WoW all day. Now several years after recently getting it fixed, i'm working on getting my life back on track. This video motivated me even more tbh...

I feel your pain, man (literally). I spent about... 3-4 years with broken back molars... half of that time was just one on one side, then the other half was another on the opposite side. I had to cut back on so many different foods, couldn't eat properly for the duration and all because I simply couldn't afford dental care and didn't have insurance. I still don't. I only recently came into some money to start getting work done and although I still have much to do, I've had two crowns done and finally have no holes in my teeth... still a couple root canals and cavity fillings to do, though... still thousands away from completion. :/ The pain I went through was fucking ridiculous, I had several trips to the ER just begging them to give me something to take the pain away, which of course they couldn't really do without me spending a shit ton of money.
Moral of this mini-novel is the US is fucking ridiculous when it comes to dental care. It's not covered in 98% of states because it's considered "cosmetic"... It absolutely baffles me why there is yet to be a line drawn between "Please whiten my teeth Sir/Madaam" vs "My teeth are rotting out, they're infected and I feel like I'm fucking dying." Yes, plenty of dental procedures can be considered purely cosmetic but when it comes to infections caused by abscesses and more? It's _literally deadly_ at times. How the _fuck_ is that cosmetic?! I swear, if it were a realistic option I'd get he fuck out of the US. This country has been shit for a while now but it's gone to hell in a hand basket 50 times over now.

I know how you feel. I live in the US, and my first year of college I was diagnosed with a heart condition. This was only months before getting kicked off my parents insurance. I had to use my financial aid and local scholarships to get enough healthcare to live pretty much. I take medicine and am able to go to the health department for refills, but I just can't afford any tests to make sure my condition is not worse. I'm sure its worse though, some days I am pretty much disabled. I just have to pray I live each day to the next until something changes or I eventually die from it.

You took the decision to postpone your immediate needs and consider the wider needs of your loved ones. House first/Mother first... you, whenever it became possible. Enduring and hoping that one day things will come right is something that many of us have to do sooner or later. You had/have had a sore test of character very early in life and I applaud you. You say that but I have a similar cracked tooth issue and I'm stuck on an NHS waiting list and have been told to stay there because apparently near 24/7 aches are not an emergency :)
Every NHS dentist I had was so bad I went private. This is obviously not to say there are no good NHS dentists but as far as I'm concerned it is worth the extra money for something as important as teeth.

I'm going through the same thing as you. Dental care is so expensive that i cannot afford it. All my money goes to my kids and all there care. Almost all my teeth rotted out and i have nightmares at night having no teeth.

Fuck yeah brother I completely feel you, growing up my whole life without healthcare, I recently got a job that allowed me to get my teeth fixed, 7 teeth removed in total, root canal on the 2 molars left. I went through 8 years of excruciating pain as you did. I completely feel you. Also not wanting to show people what was wrong I would act like I had migraines in public. It was horrible. For those of you who have never had a real toothache, it's no joke. I've had to get a root canal because a cavity I had had gotten to the root of my tooth but before the procedure I was feeling the worst pain in my life, hurts from your head to the bottom of your spine, makes you want to rip your head off, any slight change in temperature destroys you, you can pass out, painkillers work but you have to take like 6 a day to feel nothing. The fact that Asmonngold suffered this for 6 years for the house and his mother is a testament to how good of a person he is.

I live in a country with free healthcare, but dental work isn't even partially covered. I have for many years struggled with similar problems. My teeth are still there, but only partially. They have been eroding away and breaking for years, and with severe phobia for dental work I avoided it. When I finally sought help (with full anesthesia) I was told it'd cost me 100k nok (about 12k usd). Lucky for me I got a diagnosis and a lot of help finally, so I am going under at the end of November getting shit fixed, for free! I am terrified, but ecstatic. I'll be able to eat on both sides of my mouth, and not live in fear that the intense pain will come back and not be stopped by pills. To some degree I can understand what is going on here, and I'm legit happy for you! :)

But I am also ecstatic to be able to smile again once all the work is done. This popped up on my recommended feed the same day I went to the dentist to get my treatment plan. serendipitous.
I have bad teeth entirely because I neglected to brush my teeth enough. I haven't been to the dentist since I was 8 or 9. Now nearly 10 years later my teeth are screwed and I'm always in pain. It's great to hear that you're getting it taken care of.

Dude, HUGE respect for pulling through dealing with all this. I've got the same kind of issue going on, young me was kinda lazy/dumb and decided brushing my teeth wasn't as fun as staying up playing games and then passing out, and by the time I was smart enough to realize how important that is, it was too late to just "brush" the problem away. I have also been having terrible tootaches in the last couple of years and even though I am getting some parts fixed here and there, there's still much that needs to be done and I don't like taking painkillers. It is not a "killing" type of pain, but it is really killing the joy of life or the joy of doing anything, including playing WoW (which is one of my favorite activities). Only those who have had such tootache will know what I mean. Glad you are able to take care of it, even if it is still a process. Hopefully, I will be done with my tooth problems one day too.
I have been lurking for a while, but now I feel like I have to tell two things:First, brave and awesome story. Almost been there myself - it took courage to tell us all this. Secondly, I strongly believe that healthcare should not be paid like this, like paying for a sandwich, for a numner of reasons. Almost every developed country has some kind of system in place to deal with this, so you cousins from US should really think about it.

Sorry to hear you've been going through so much pain. I'm in a similar situation but in Australia. All my old fillings started falling out and I couldn't afford to get anything fixed. Sadly with dentistry poor teeth seems to have a compounding effect - if you can't afford cleans ($80) it gets more expensive (fillings ~$300) if you can't afford fillings you end up needing crowns ($1,000+), etc.
The people with the least amount of money end up needing the most expensive types of procedures. Very unfortunate.

I'm not sure how it is in your state, but in PA the Department of Public Assistance covers basic procedures like operative restoration, and you are allowed 1 denture per arch per life time. I THINK anyone can apply for that type of insurance, but I'm not sure what it actually entails.

It gets better Asmon, I can relate. Four years ago I finally landed a job that had good dental insurance. I had gone over ten years without even seeing a dentist or having coverage until this job. Over the last 3 years I've had nearly 20 fillings done, a root canal, an extraction, wisdom teeth pulled, and tons of cleanings. I'm finally in a better place mentally and I can tell you that you'll get there soon. Don't be discouraged and keep focus on this path of repair. You're not less of a person at all and you shouldn't think of yourself as one of "those" people. Having missing teeth isn't a big deal and its pretty damn common anywhere you go.
You'll have long stretches where it seems like you're going to the dentist every fucking week and it will feel horrible. Don't go crazy on the meds just because they give them to you. Listen and follow all of the advice the dentists and hygienists give you. Recovery is the hard part, the procedures are silly easy. Never give up. Never stop going big dick.

I've been in the same situation man. It's haunted my entire life ever since I was a kid. Grew up really poor without any dental insurance. The toothaches are just the worst. You feel like you have to put your entire life on hold.
I've had teeth problems myself that took about 6 months to renovate. Hurts like fuck, both having shitty teeth for years and getting them fixed. You might not be able to eat solids for a while, gums might flare up and add extra pressure, they might drill into nerves on accident or need to do a root canal if things are really messed up and if you're like me you could be very resistant to tranquilizers and painkillers so you'll get a front row seat on the paintrain!
That said you're one insanely brave (or bravely insane) dude who made a huge personal sacrifice so his mother would have a roof above her head. You've already done more for her than many of us will do for our parents in a lifetime. I'd say take all the rest you need, you obviously deserve it (and need it).

'Free' healthcare is stupid. It costs someone, somewhere, somehow. Go spend 12 years + getting a medical degree and license, then never charge anyone. You won't.
Earning plenty of money in a good economy and having tons of options is far better. Supporting a corrupt administration that prints trillions and steals more from the poor and middle class by value theft than they 'give' doesn't improve things.

In the past year I had to get a mandatory surgery. It would have cost me over $6000 dollars if I didn't have the healthcare system provided for me in Canada. If this system wasn't the way it is I would still be in pain, constantly exhausted and unable to afford living expenses and medical costs. As a lifelong Canadian citizen I feel fortunate to live here and appreciate the wonderful opportunities and benefits I am provided.

I know where youre coming from man, pretty much in the same boat. Just recently got back on dental insurance so hopefully i can get things fixed, but I dont really smile much because i dont want people to see my messed up teeth. Sorry to hear about your situation :-/ I can relate. When my parents split up, we couldn't afford visits to the dentist anymore. Over time, I had small cavities that got bigger and worst to the point I was always in pain. My teeth were ugly and I hated smiling. Wasn't until I graduated college, and became an RN that I was able to afford dental care. Just hang in there man, you'll eventually get everything fixed and smile again.
Great to see you doing this for yourself. I live in Europe and we feel really sorry for people in the USA, if your not mega wealthy then no one gives a shit. Most places in Europe we take care of everyone when it comes to health, rich or poor you have access to the same care but if you want you can pay to go private. Do you know the program Breaking Bad, while it's an amazing show, in most countries in Europe the 1st Episode would end with, and he went off to get treatment the end, not had to fund it with selling drugs ;-)
All the pain that you´ve gone through, because you live in a country that prefers to spend more on weapons than the whole world combined, but cant afford healthcare. Kudos for putting this out there, it takes guts.

He's fine, he makes more than enough streaming to pay for it. If he streams 5 days a week for a year he'd easily clear 6 figures a year (and very likely double 6 figures once he gets his sub button going).
I get that but I wouldn't mind giving him money to take care of medical bills. Hes prob making jack shit from you tube and may need some help since hes tending to 2 people. streaming money or not I dont think without a twitch partnership hes making a huge disposable income.

I can totally relate to you man, I wasn't until earlier this year that I went to the dentist for the first time in my life. Irresponsible parents never took me as I was growing up and only having minimal health insurance my working career (until the last couple years) led me to put it off until my wisdom teeth started breaking. Thankfully I am in a better place financially and was able to get that issue corrected and all is well. You take care of yourself and keep on keeping on.
I Feel you asmon, I had a completely broken off crown for 5 years. and was suffering from tooth infection until I got enough money to get the surgery to get it removed.
A buddy of mine got all this top teeth removed and got dentures at 28. He is so much happier than he was before he got his teeth pulled. when you get all your shit done, you'll be overall happier. No matter what's missing.
i know exactly how you feel i have been getting my teeth fixed over the last few years and to be able to let my teeth show when i smile without a gap from missing teeth showing. keep it up you will get through this.
thats good advice. ill start telling people what ive done instead of what im going to do. ive done that alot and i end up procrastinating that not doing it and then feeling all stressed out because i didnt do what ever i told people ill do.
Having bad teeth sucks. It alters your self perception and makes you feel like a freak.
When I was super young my four top front teeth rotted out. I just had gums for maybe 8 years. I would never smile properly cause I was embarrassed. I'm in my 30s now and I still can't smile with my mouth open. I'm happy almost all the time but smiling for a photo just feels super forced.
Now I'm so anal about dental hygiene now. If I have food between my teeth I can't concentrate on anything. I brush my teeth religiously and now I have close to perfect dental health.
That's awesome, I realize this is 7 years old but it's cool to see your whole journey. I just found you through one of your other channels so all this content is new to me.
Much respect for this video, I know how just....lost it feels to be unable to take care of basic needs like that, I'm in the same boat right now. I don't think anyone's going to think less of you for any of this, you did a good thing with the house, and put your needs aside to help your mother, that's fucking commendable, man.
