    Just some clarity on accommodation around 0:50 and 10:00 ish - in my college, everyone pays the same rate no matter their room (you get one at random). In other colleges, you pay based on the tier of your room so you have more choice over how much you spend!

      Another great video ! Oxford actually seems quite reasonable. Is it true that the richer older colleges like Christ Church or St. John's are even cheaper ?

      Great question, I think they tend to have more money for grants for trips and maybe books and study technology and such things. Not too sure it impacts rent and food costs so much (but it might, depending on the college) :)

      @@darkacademiaaudiobooks I can answer for Christ Church - I pay £1568 for accommodation each term. As Sam also said, one of our perks is that we get an annual 28 day vac res grant, so should we wish to stay extra, we can have up to an extra 28 days a year for free.

    No joke - yesterday I did the exact same calculation, I went through all my card transactions for the last term and added them up… safe to say was much higher than yours

    You're obviously sensible with money. I hope your parents are able to help you out, because there is no time in your life when having some extra money makes such a big difference to your quality of life. Also, you should be buying books and building up your own Classics library. Buy the book if you are going to need it regularly, or if you are going to want to write in it; use the library if it is something you will only read once.

      Now it is T&C I will defo be buying more books next term! I came into Oxford with an Iliad and Aeneid in Eng and the language which I had also already previously annotated. But will defo need to do that process again soon for Bacchae, Frogs, Hdt etc!

    I’m surprised accommodation is not subsidised at all by Oxford colleges. I was paying £820 for my ensuite room in central Oxford last year. So do they charge you exactly like private market? In Cambridge, college accommodation was way cheaper.

    • @Sam.Kramer
      @Sam.Kramer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you asking if they charge as much as renting privately? If so, it is defo still somewhat subsardised. People who live in non-college owned accom pay markedly more

    Hi Sam I have a question. I've always felt like oxbridge is a place for upper class people where their parents pay for everything. Is that true and to what extent. This is my main question are there students who do part time jobs along with managing studies in oxford?? or does everyone have money to support themselves.

    • @Sam.Kramer
      @Sam.Kramer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey, that's a really complicated question to answer ofc. Instead of 'upper class', to use 'privately educated' Oxford probably falls near the top of UK unis (but not the top). Students are not allowed jobs during term as there is too much work but the vacations are longer and you can work then. Everyone can get a loan from the government to help fund things - differing amounts depending on one's need. And every uni is the same price, £9250/yr so going to Oxford doesn't cost more. Hope that helps
