    I got to tell you when I first saw you I thought now who is this guy. You hit the loading scene right on the nail of the head , without super expensive equipment etc. you make some beautiful loads that pattern well. Thankyou for your great videos.

    That’s the only shotshell I knew of growing up. A sheltered life and if wanted shells for chasing bunnies and birds, I had to head back to Grandpa’s mec and make ‘em. Sure wish I had all those buckets of hulls back!
    ps: Still using that mec.🤔 1972…Sheit I got old! Thank God the Red dot smells the same! ❤😂

    Made some of of these rounds up with 23 grains of Longshot for turkey hunting. At 30yards over 40 pellets in head and neck

    Great video man.. thanks for all the info. And I know what happens with unslit wads. They make great home defense loads lol.. hey if anyone gets any turkey's with ya'lls loads post em up.

    I really appreciate the 12 gauge 2-3/4" Turkey load data. It's nearly impossible to find factory ammo for Turkey in 2-3/4". There are a ton of 12 gauge shotguns chambered for 2-3/4" that I hate to see made obsolete based on a lack of available ammo. Thanks so much!

      I’d back this down to like 23 grains honestly

      @@theshotgunscientists I tried 25 grains and it deformed the rim around the head stamp then I tried 23 grains. Still getting the same pressure signs. Shooting out of a Maverick 88 with a 27" barrel. How much more can I back the powder off?

    I got the 12ga Lee Crimp Finisher, but I don't own a Lee press in 12ga, only 20ga. It won't fit on my MEC 12ga either. I used my drill press with a 12ga roll crimp tool mounted in it to press the tool onto my crimps, and it worked great. A side benefit you may have noticed is that the tool will close up holes in fold crimps considerably.

    I've been loading just under 1.5oz of lead with waa12r and those hulls. I use 25gr of longshot though. I tried 28gr and it kicked like a son of a gun, probably going over 1300 fps.

    • @theshotgunscientists
      @theshotgunscientists  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I’ve seen data calling for up to 31 grains for these kind of hulls and a 1.5 ounce load. The 26 grain charge from my single shot kicked pretty hard when we shot it in the turkey load video a few weeks ago.

      @@theshotgunscientists 31grs would definitely rock your world. I've done 35gr for 1 1/8th, and it was stiff, but it sent that payload screaming downrange. Hodgdon manual said it was doing some 1550 fps. Kicked like a factory slug, ish

      I load 31.5 grains of Longshot underneath an ounce and a half of bismuth #5 in a 2 3/4" shell for ducks. 1385 fps on chronograph

    • @thastinger345
      @thastinger345 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DadandSonsOutdoorsAdventures Yeah, I use 31gr of LS in STS hulls with REM RP12 wads and 1&3/8ths payload, 1400-1410FPS from 30" barrel.
      I use 31.5gr in the Federal top gun hulls, same payload but with MG42 wads, same velocity.

    Great video as usual. Im planning to turkey hunt this spring. Still not sure what ammo I'm taking. Have some 2 3/4" Federal Premium 1 5/8 ounce buffered #6 copper plated that I bought over 20 years ago that's high on the list of possibles. Federal doesn't even catalog that load anymore. In fact I think 2 3/4" 1 5/8 ounce has about disappeared from the market.

      @johnnorman7708 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theshotgunscientists I think 1 5/8 was essentially a 2 7/8" 10 ga payload back years ago. I also have some old Winchester XX Magnum 1 5/8 ounces 2 3/4" loads. I read that payload for a while was really doing a job on turkeys in the old short chambered fixed choke guns back in the 80s and 90s.

    Have you loaded the new-style HS hulls from Winchester? According to Winchester HS and CF data should interchange. I know the wad will probably change. Thank you in advance.

    The load with the SSW wad, with the green and white hulls, is that a 1 7/8oz load or a 1 1/2oz load? Just want to make sure. I think the load you loaded in the video was loaded to 1 1/2oz. but the info on the SSW load said 1 7/8oz. Thanks
