I enjoy your calm voice. No hurry, no rush, no stress. You remind me of someone, but I can't place who. A little like Ray Ramano maybe.
I get that quite a bit.
I was watching old motocross videos and richpin looks alot like Bob "Hurricane" Hannah.
LaodiceaMythos
Funny you say that because i raced the same time bob did take a look th-cam.com/video/8s7U8I5poXk/w-d-xo.html
I am glad you like them i am trying to go the extra mile so you have a pleasant video to watch.
The new graphics gives your videos a great intro and close. Nice work on your Dad’s new wheels too.
Thanks for sharing this video. I have to confess to turning the air blue when I got to 7:57 where the significance of the differences between front and rear shoe are made apparent. After sweating in summer heat re-assembling this puzzle and almost ready to replace the drum I found had the shoes back-to-front. If only you'd mentioned it at the start of the re-assembly. I'm off for a drink.
Thank you for you help....
And I like when you explain with details.... thank you again!
Going to do this job this weekend! Thanks richpin06a for putting these videos together :-)
The best on the subject. Seriously! Kudos
The shoes are lined up to conform to the shape of the drum. The adjusters are adjusted the same on both sides.
there are many videos on this subject, but yours was more instructive. many thanks.
Tej Grewal Thank you for saying that.
Thank you sir, just completed 99 corolla very helpful.
In fairness, your videos have always been a pleasure to watch, the intro is a nice touch, and you are a great source of knowledge, now how about some tool reviews? I just bet someone bought you some new gear at Christmas and I want to hear about it!
One thing that can reduce confusion is to take some good tight, well lit digital photos (or video) before and durring disassembly.
Shoot both sides, as there can be some minor differences.
Photos are is no way limited to brakes by the way... shoot anything that looks to be a nightmare going back together. Especially if some time will pass before reassembly.
Nice Intro Rich. Keep up the good work!
Very good tip.
good video, thanks for taken the time to do it.
Nice vid, Rich...
I just rebuilt a wheel cylinder... and uploaded it I think a week ago.... LOL
I'm liking the new intro too.....
.

Did the pistons come out of the wheel cylinder.
love you tube team and thank you this video..good.
Correct, unless you're also replacing the wheel cylinder(s) in which case you would need to bleed them out
Yes it is a 5 speed.
@richpin06a Yea.fluids were empty added dome.nothing could it be the master cylinder I have a leak I believe like you said how much you think I'm looking at from a garage or do u think it's easy job you helped me fix the tensioner and that was the first thing I ever did on my own.
Well done. Hate those parking brake springs.
If you live in the salt belt it probably is a rusted brake line.Whatever you replace you will have to bleed the air out of the system.
It sounds like you might have a leak in the brake system check for fluid somewhere under the car.
Hello from Brazil. I m a home mechanic. Thanks for the videos and I m a new subscriber of your channel.
Eduardo Piston Thank you for subscribing to my channel i hope you enjoy my videos.
Thanks for the help
Your welcome.
My wheel cylinder started leaking brake fluid after I took off the shoes . it was dry before. Now the cylinder is expanded and cant squeeze my shoes in to put the drum back on. Should you loosen the bleeder valve before doing this?
There are conversions.
I have a new auto ranging multimeter video in the can and ready for upload.
Hi rich thanks bunch
What brand brake shoes do you prefer?
I have few q 1) when u say line up brakes evenly what it means pls, means it should be in round shape or the lid distance between edge of shoe to lip of backing plate should have equal width, pls advise. I was also told that star wheel should be adjusted inward on driver sideand outward on passenger side. Pls advise
Hello sir,
I replaced rear brakes on my 02 corolla. I forgot to put break grease on the contact points. I think thats the reason breaks squeal sometime. Is it going to hurt anything in long run if I dont go back and grease it?
is there a way in which you can eliminate the drums and replace them with rotor style brakes?
hello whats name of the tool that you use in the minute 6.10
Hi, thanks for helping to one of us...
My question is the rear brake s.....on the Toyota corolla you was working.
So the big shoes goes in in the back right? because the from side is smaller right? thanks again!!
+Danny Chuqui The best way to make sure you get the right shoe in the right place is to do one side at a time and refer to the other side for reference.
No you never want to push on the brake pedal with the drums off.
Do you have any videos on how to remove the rear steering knuckle on this car?
I do not at this time.
@richpin06a I need help I have 95 for four Saturn I been hearing scraping noise from right rear break just now I dropped my two kids off at daycare on the way down the driveway the breaks just go loose they don't work if I go real slow they will stop the car but the break light is on I have know tools at the moment could the back break cause all the breaks to stop functioning.
I am using AutoZone brand shoes.
is this car a stick shift?
+akbar rajani you can put the grease without taking the whole thing apart. Remember the shoes are "floating". Take off the wheel, and slide the drum off. Grab a shoes and pull it sideways slightly. Grease it with a syringe or carefully with a small stick.
Thank you for helping him out.
so you don't have to bleed the brakes that is good.
No they just started leaking and I couldnt push them back in. Im guessing you shouldnt press the brakes when the drum is off?.. doh!!
emergency brake light is on
Thanks for the video. I just did my first "drum brakes" on my 2000 corolla. It was "deceptively" easy to disassemble(used my fingers to remove most parts). However, putting back together was much tougher especially because you have to be careful of all the grease spots in place. Note: 1.) The retaining clip was a one time use part(but I made it work). 2.) The "tong" spring tool is a must. 3.) A third hand or a clamp to hold everything in position would have been very helpful. Peace.

Adjusting drum brakes, sometimes you just get tired of taking the tire off, then making another adjustment, then putting the wheel on, driving it, then doing another adjustment. I live in a rural area with a very steep hill. I like to face the car uphill, and let it roll backwards and continually hit the brake and stop the car every 10 or so feet as it backs down the hill. Each time you do this, you're clicking the star wheel one click closer to perfect adjustment and a perfect parking brake.
Drums r headaches !! Jus buy cars with disc ritors
7'10 Im sorry thanks
That is a drum brake spring pliers.
