Well done , youll get there , and dont you change your attitude , more power to your elbow my friend !

    Robin what are pro’s and con’s with having a remote floor probe instead of using the actual stat? Perfect timing with the video for us as we need to decide on UFH design, Cheers Richard

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The room stat measures air temperature and it will close the circuit down but it could be set at 30 degs cent for the air and the floor could be running at 40 or even 50 deg cent. The floor probe is a limit stat. The low temperature is also needed on timber floors. The only one you can turn up high is ceramic tiles.

    • @neilmartin3556
      @neilmartin3556 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Corns You have both, the remote probe is making sure the temp in the floor does not go too high, usually 27. The thermostat is in the controller to monitor room temp, what ever you have set to.

    I was interested to hear in the video that Karndean have done something about sensitivity to sunlight. I have Karndean throughout my house, and it has seriously discoloured due to bleaching by sunlight in just a couple of years. I don't know how to upload an image of it, but I can tell you that my flooring is now bright green instead of the warm oak wood tone that it should be. Karndean have offered to replace my flooring as a "goodwill gesture" but I will now have days of disruption to remove the existing flooring and have it replaced with the new planks - and I am having to pay for this work to be done myself because Karndean couldn't trace the original purchase of the flooring (which was fitted before I bought the house) so they didn't cover it under their guarantee. I would urge caution for anyone wishing to fit Karndean flooring anywhere that receives a lot of direct sunlight. Prepare for it to become bright green!

      Hi John
      These ones are stuck down and that is common but you can also buy loose lay which is a better product because you can move the tiles (strips) around to even out wear. As for mopping the tiny bit of water from a wrung out mop will evaporate through the joins.

    • @lewishunt6133

      It's glued using high temperature or pressure sensitive adhesive using an a2 trowel. The guy laying the floor is dry fitting without glue and will go back and glue a few rows at a time as the lvt has to be layed into wet ht adhesive. If you glued up the whole room the glue would have dried up by the time you layed a few rows

  • @TranceMusicEventsUK
    @TranceMusicEventsUK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never been a fan of LVT, im just a sucker for real wood flooring. I get what you say about the span being an issue, would gluing the floor down not solve these issues?

    • @jacobporter4623
      @jacobporter4623 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      can't advise that unless you want it to split! wood needs to expand and contract, expansion joints are built into the flooring to an extent. I have used water down pva to stick back down old bits of parquet floor that's lifted in the past but with the glue centred in the middle of the piece but I'd only do that on localised areas. I'll be rebuilding my extension in the future and I think I might move away from wood to something like this

    (Got Karndean at home - better half insisted no wood) Was surprised as a wood expert for you to be promoting it. One really important point - the subfloor needs to be perfect, it will show up any irregularities being flexible. Noted fitters bevelling the edge but assume that just on the ends butting the wall? So is it true it can only be put down by approved fitters? ( nothing wrong with that ). It is also expensive? but would you say good long term value ?

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bevelled edge just gives it a bit of flexibility on the edge where it compresses against the skirting. We have plenty of videos on fitting it and the Palio collection is suitable for general builders, kitchen fitters etc.

    Sharps would be way more than what you said Robin and it would be rubbish. Hate it when I see customers that have had them in.

    I've been watching this build and the workmanship is top notch. I'm 65 and been in the game all my life and the thing that concerns me is you look fucked it's no good if your not here to enjoy. Slow down.

      Lockdown has forced that slow-down. He is a lot more relaxed now. I am sure in years to come Robin will look back on these videos and wonder how he survived.

    This is a pity to put a cheap flexible floor in a nice building... You should have put a dinesen-type floor rather than lino?

    Going to be hard under foot, I'd have gone carpet everywhere with tiles for the kitchen personally. Does look great.

      Hi Joe Just to be clear, your father is a floor layer and that has taken its toll. Your comment might be construed as meaning something inherent in the Karndean has injured his health which is presumably not the case.

    So a lot of these products say need to keep below 27°c, with maxes around 30°-35°.. yet as you mention, it’s going to be sat in the sun and on a summers day, south facing floor could get up to +40°.
    I’ve a south facing room (screed & UFH) and looking for flooring, no-one (yet) can give a firm answer. Had a few quotes for engineered and vinyls.. No ones willing to say “yup it’ll be fine”.
    I’ll check this product of yours out.

    Not a big fan of products that pretend to be other materials, like lino that looks like wood.

      Funny that because I have always considered imitations a bit naff but these floors are very popular so, form Karndean's perspective they are doing the right thing.

    Karndean is one of the worst companies there is. They do not stand behind anything. Gapping issues, to finish issues. You'll never get a rep to come look at it. I loved it 20 yrs. ago. They got issues. Great job installing not on you. Don't go Karndean there's better companies out there. They all got same stuff.
