I just removed my water pump. A few comments. Unlike N54, N55 water pump does not have thermostat piggybacked on it. People change water pump and thermostat on N54 at the same time because of "mind as well" but I have never seen thermostat going bad. For N55 (on F10 at least), I decided there is no need to change the thermostat so there is no need to remove fan shroud. That saves a lot of work. To remove the water pump, just drop the sway bar, disconnect wire connector, and 3 bolts, pull out the pump a bit to disconnect 2 worm clamps (6mm) and drop the pump out from bottom. All can be done from the bottom without even a need to open the hood. When putting the worm clamps back, make sure u position them so that the 6mm screws can be more easily accessible for the next person.

Mechanics are really MAGICIANS! Wish it wasn’t so many shady ones around. Also wish I could bring my f10 to you to change my stat and pump 😩 the dealer wants to much and the bmw guy I know that has a shop said it’s a pain and hoses break and such…has me scared to let him do it but you made it look so regular and I can tell you know exactly what you’re doing since you didn’t struggle, the ease in your voice etc 👍

@@davidbrittingham9512 OK, thanks! I don't trust mechanics! I'll be paying around $530 for the fix, the OEM part is like $550 found a generic one on eBay for $130 and labor is $400. First, the problem was the radiator fan but I got an overheating error the moment I got home and sat in the driveway for a spell. They charged me $315 for a radiator fan the OEM part was $700 I found a generic one on eBay for $150! So, I'm looking at just over $800 in total. Hoping these generic parts hold up!

I agree. The thermostat was a complete PITA. Mine was really stuck. Also, getting the rear quick disconnect hose on the new part was difficult. I recommend using some type of lubricant on the fittings, i.e. WD-40.

Just replace it soon as possible, “when it stops working” is a dumb answer because the car goes into limp mode. It’s smart to replace it rather than to be stranded with car that won’t start.
