I've had my Torqeedo 1003s since 2013. I bought it pre-owned. I really love it.
I think there is a lot of room for a company to make a "much cheaper" competitor product. The ePropultion products seem too closely priced to Torqeedo. Originally, I believe they were even more expensive, but far less known. It seems the prices have come down and the products improved. Due to the competition, Torqeedo has improved too. They now offer a silent motor and batteries that last longer, which I purchased one.
I like that Torqeedo is widely known and it is easy to find replacement batteries, parts and even used motors, service, etc. I think the competition would have a better chance if they drastically under cut the prices. But unless that happens, I think Torqeedo will remain the leader in these type of motors. But some competition wouldn't hurt. Maybe both companies can lower their greatly over priced prices. However, I see no great alternatives. I switched from a cheap trolling motor and car battery that was no fun to carry about. I paid a premium, but as a sedan owner it's the best motor available that fits in the trunk along with the boat. Is the EP does as compact as the 1003? It some how looks a little bigger in the photos.
I've been thinking about switching to electric on my outrigger kayak. I'm gonna have to check this out much more. Thanks.
Electric motors should definitely be an option

More competition is good. Hope more companies can join in and drop these insane prices. Maybe one of the big names will swoop in soon.

this is meant for aluminum and plastic boats like the catch power 100 or jonny bass 100, I can def adapted to a kayak :)
Cheaper sure. I didn't hear anything that made it better than torqeedo. And they're clearly not made for kayaks. I look forward to seeing you field test it and hopefully find a functional rigging option for a kayak.
This unit is more for the Jonny Bass 100 and the pelican catch 100,also the blue sky 360 or Jon boats, per Chris it offers longer running time, shorter charging time, a battery that floats and it is cheaper too... Hopefully they make a kayak friendly option

Man my bass pro 30 lb.motor weighs 20 lbs and on my blue kayak I hit 8mph off sanibel I paid 100oo new for it,,I wouldn't own any other motor,,you can't shorten their motor or use the battery you want to use same with tourquedo once you buy into these motors your stuck buying your parts and battery from them,,over rated do do,,I'll keep with cheap kayaks and motors they do the same thing for 1000s less ,,the motor and battery of my choice cost under 200oo and will usually will last 5 years or more (don't be sold on hype do your home work)
I switched from a trolling motor to a Torqeedo 1003, and I'm glad I did. No comparison. I have an inflatable kayak though.
With the 30 lb thrust motor & my heavy car battery (marine battery), I could barely cut through the wind on some occasions.
The Torqeedo is easy to transport. No car battery to carry. Yes, it's a lot more expensive. Totally agree on that part.

Consider this you could buy around 20, 100oo bass pro 30lb.motors for 2000oo or a 1000oo kayak and 5 trolling motors and 5 ,,100oo batterys,,lol.

@@AliexFolgueira you could still be coasting at 7 knots towards a reef and it disconnect. You might be no longer accelerating but you can't steer and you're still coasting. I have too many connection issues with Bluetooth to trust it like that.

Why is it such a big deal? It's easy to do it yourself, I can even make a joystick remote steering.
cannot get any information on this from Hong Kong sales office(calvin Wang) - i sent them the video -they said there is a steering cable, only throttle is wireless...anyone have information on "wireless steering?

Kayak.bass.angler Its far from a chinese copy. Torqeedos technology on this model hasnt changed in 10yrs. Epropulsion technology is the latest. In the electronics world this is a massive difference
