  • This video is response to the many questions and comments I've gotten about the ePropulsion Navy 6.0 evo. Since posting the full install and water test video, I've been asked a few but very important questions as people try to figure out if buying this electric outboard motor is really worth it. Watch as I go through step by step and reveal everything I've learned over the lasty year about the epropulsion navy 6.0 electric outboard motor. I have allot of important information in the video so sit back relax and enjoy.

    Awesome review :) thank you!! I wanted to ask, what was the main reason you went for the E175 instead of E80 battery? Is it mainly about increased run time? Also wanted to ask about the E Charger and if you have thought about using a solar setup with the E Charger? I am thinking about installing the 6.0 Evo and E80 on a small 24ft sailboat and just not sure about battery size and charging option. Thought I'd ask and see if you had some advise. Thanks again for great videos on the topic. cheerio from Down Under :)

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. I thought about a solar charger but I honestly never run out of power with fishing and running the boat. I went with the E-175 for the longer run time as well as the ability to utilize the full strength of the motor. Going with the E80 for the Navy 6, you will only use 100amps of the available 125amps throttle. Essentially you're cutting out the top 20% of the throttle. The E80 battery can only handle 100a output. Run time will be shorter as well. If cost is an issue you can go with the Navy 6 motor and the HI-POWER 48V Lithium Battery Pack. It comes with the charger as well. There is a 120ah and 160ah capacity and both can handle up to 200 amps max output. Besides price, what I like about it most is it only weighs 74lbs compared to the E175 48volt that weighs almost 200lbs. Might be a good fit for your sailboat. You can get everything (motor and battery) on TBNation.net. They have it all in stock and ships quickly. If you buy from TBNation please use our affiliate link tbnation.net/?ref=BBF5. This will help support our channel and would be much appreciated. :) Well, good luck and hope this info helps.

    Thanks for your excellent videos, which I've just discovered. I recently acquired an EPROPULSION SPIRIT 1.0 PLUS from Tiny Boat Nation, and have been using it on my TOBiN Sport Inflatable tender. It is an excellent motor for this type of boat. Like you, I enjoy all the positive qualities of electric power, but am also buying a Yamaha 8HP gasoline outboard for times I want to be able to get up on plane and go faster. After viewing your video, I have this question: If you were to compare top speed and trim of your jonboat with a gasoline 9.9HP and the same with your E-Propulsion Navy, also rated at 9.9, which combination is faster?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Welcome to the channel. Glad you are enjoying hiur spirit 1.0. EPropulsion really do make great motors. On my jon boat the gas powered 9.9 is faster. At some point I do plan to move the E175 battery towards to front of the boat. I believe this will give me more speed but not to get on plane. I feel it's a matter of time before the technology for the electric motors are able to do that as well without having to Frankenstein a crazy setup.

    • @davidcooper2516
      @davidcooper2516 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BassBrothersFishingDMV Thanks so much for your reply. So, do you believe that the rating of 9.9 HP for the EPropulsion Navy motor is overstated, seeing as how your jonboat with your Merc 9.9 is faster, or is there something else going on? Also, does the Merc 9.9 get your boat up on step? And how much faster does the boat go with that setup?

    Refreshing - to share your experience and see your objective reports. Valuable tips.
    One question: You convinced me to buy the 6.0 EVO - regarding battery should I buy 2 X E804096 Wh ⁄ 48 or better 1 x E175 8960 Wh ⁄ 48 ?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would go with the battery configuration that works best with your boat. Be sure to pull the battery dimensions from their website in case space is an issue for you. I went with the 175 since space was an issue. If space isn't an issue I would probably go with the two smaller ones to be easier to take the batteries in and out the boat if needed.

    Are you able to tilt the outboard to 60 deg (out of the water) from the boat? I have an ePropulsion Navy 6.0 (non-Evo), which has the motor in the upper unit, so the lower unit is pretty light and easy to tilt. I've heard a lot of folks complain that it's nearly-impossible to tilt the motor out of the water from inside the boat with the 6.0 Evo, since the lower unit is so heavy (thanks to direct drive). Perhaps not an issue for trailering at some boat ramps, but for someone like me that beaches frequently, it's a potential deal-breaker.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I can tilt it up as far as I need to. It's bottom heavy so I get what you're saying.

      @the_phew3552 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BassBrothersFishingDMV It would be great if you could demonstrate the tilt procedure in a future video. I'm trying to understand if it's a feat of strength or just a mild inconvenience. i.e., could it be performed by a slight woman or a senior? Thanks!

    Hi, can you use 3rd party batteries if the specs are the same? It would save a lot of money and weight if i just go with li-ion, then it would be interesting

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Yes you can but make sure you find batteries that put out a continuous discharge current of over 125amps. This was the deciding factor for me. If you go any lower the battery ABS system will shut the battery off. At the time I couldn't find a third-party battery that could do that, but that was over 2 years ago.

    • @bexraphaela
      @bexraphaela ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BassBrothersFishingDMV Thank you! In that case, is a Navy 3 better if the boat is quite small and holds no more than 3 people? It saves a lot of watt, what is the continuous discharge of the Navy 3 at full throttle/3000w?

    I've had my epropulsion spirit 1.0 plus for a year. My only issue with it is that the propeller is a vegetation magnet. I have to pull the weeds off by hand too often. I have a little 30 lb thrust minn kota that rarely traps weeds and if it does, I just put it in reverse and the weeds kick off. Does this weed problem happen to anyone else? Also, I have not been able to find that epropulsion sells a weedless propeller. Any possible suggestions\solutions would be appreciated. Thank you

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I typically don't run my motor in weed areas. I've never seen a weedless prop for an outboard motor either so I would just try to manage the areas you fish.

    Bro, I have the Spirit 1.0 and experience awesome runtime at trolling speeds of 1.5 - 2.0 mph. After 7 hours of constant trolling, I still had 90% of my battery capacity. I fish Winnebago, Buttes Des Mortes and Poygan here in Wisconsin and I run out of lake WAY before I run out of battery. Example, Winnebago to Poygan on running UPRIVER in seven hours while only using 90% of my E Propulsion Spirit 1.0. I was on a 14 Regal, which is effectively flat bottom. Performance blew my mind. Can you do a comparable trolling test on your Navy 6.0?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I trolled with the Navy 6.0 It would last me over a week with me running it on the E-175 battery. Glad to hear of your success and liking of the Spirit 1.0. It's a really nice setup. I actually trolled with it myself and only used around 10% for hours of fishing.
