      A little update on this tractor. I ended up putting a restored 42” deck on it. Sold it to a feller down the road. He repainted it and has been cutting his yard with it all summer!

    I love seeing people put the time and a little bit of money to bring bank the equipment instead of throwing them away and buying the crap they sell today. I got at last count 128 mowers, trimmers, generators, pressure washer, and tillers, all of them 10 plus years old. 14 of them are riding mowers. Most of problem with them are old gas related. Keep doing what your doing maybe the youngsters will take the hint.

      I’ve lost track with how many pieces I’ve got. 😂 I’ve run out of room in the garage and the yard is full too. A while back I realized I wouldn’t have time to repair and flip all of them in a few years, so now I’m really picky about what I’ll accept for free. Haven’t paid for any in at least two years. I’m considering converting a spare bedroom to storage so I actually have enough room to work in the garage. 😂🔧👍

    I have quite a few of these old cast iron Kohler's from 10 HP up 16 HP and even have one of the elusive 18 HP engines with the extra fins ( It overheats ). If I had to choose one kind of engine, this would be it. Briggs flat heads are great as well, but I love the Cast iron Kohlers the best. I'm glad you were able to save this one and pass it on.

    Depending on how much time you have, I would tear it down and give her a quicky prep, prime and paint. But with that you will probably find worn parts in the process which is more dollars (idler pulley, belts, etc). I would do it anyway, and maybe change the trans fluid while yer at it :-)

    My first mower at the age of 12 (around 1959) was a brand new Toro my mother lent me $80 to purchase. I had it paid off in no time and it stayed in the family for years.

    KOHLER with the tube into the oil filler hole and let the positive crankcase vent thru two foot tall tube with 2 1/2 ft long dip stick that is to be store in a shelf. The vent is to steam out of its oil smoke or either way spill a small spit of black grease thru the high performance engine.

    I thought your Ultrasonic Cleaner was not working, as it did not make that 'Ultrasonic Noise', and there was still some residue left on the carb. The track rod needs to be lengthened to make those wheels track true. Some times one track rod end is left hand thread, and the other is right hand, to make it easy to adjust.

    Keep it !!, if you sell it the money will be gone and you'll wonder where it went. I've got a 82' model Case 220 mower/tractor I bought used in 85', 100% steel & metal, no plastic and I've got it running great even with mega "K" hours on it. I couldn't replace it for 12,000 $ nor would I do an even trade for the highest priced zero turn out there. Don't rush a rebuild / restore just do a little along, it'll serve you well. Can't beat the older Kohler engines either.

    I suspect the issue with that fuel tank was a clogged pencil filter which lives inside the tank and is accessed when the fuel line is removed. Either that or the fuel line was collapsed internally.

    Ok!
    So great video!
    Now to nit pick a bit on an otherwise great video. By practising some techniques that you should encourage in others can possibly head off some problems by not fixing it if it ain't broke! Specifically your ascetic technique. Once you had pulled the carb off it would be job one to "Dust it off". with a medium bristle brush just to knock the dust bunnies down a little before removing the bowl. Even better then spray it down with some carb cleaner before taking the bowl off and then wipe it down with a clean or even oiled rag to take off the residual crud before opening up the bowl or removing the jet's or air screw. Best to remove as much crud as possible before opening it up and then after you open it up and want to clean it up totally with the sonic bath, you're not filling the bath water with a huge amount of filth and expecting a clean part to come out of all that dirty solution. Just sayin'.
    Again with the power tools to disassemble a carb???
    Really? If you don't use your hand strength you'll likely be using that gosh durn thang ta over torque and strip it when putting it back together.
    Maybe you're a genius with the power tools but others who are not will be creating untold grief for themselves by following your example.
    Nice job on the fresh fuel line all round. New filter and off to the races!!
    I just bought the identical tractor 2 weeks ago and it's a lot of fun getting it freshened up and running.
    Will be watching!
    Best
    Lee
    PS everybody forgets to turn on the gas at least once in a while.

  • @Rein_Ciarfella
    @Rein_Ciarfella 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Any time I start to work on machines I spray starter fluid first before I even think about the fuel system. That way if it fires I already know I’ve eliminated air, compression, timing and spark, so the only thing left is fuel. FACTS! 👍
    Since Fuel is the culprit 90% of the time I always have that one in mind as the most likely culprit.

    I would think about restoring that deck if the parts such as the spindles are still available. Have you seen the price of stamped decks nowadays? I have a Cub Cadet that is about 12 years old and I replaced the deck, but I am going to repair the old one with a little welding. The one I replaced it with was $200.00 bare, now that same stamped blank deck is over $900.00. You seem to have a viable garden tractor of sorts, so why replace it with today's junk that costs $3000.00 or more? I've seen some of JD's lawn tractors costing over $10,000.00.

  • @michaelbenoit248
    @michaelbenoit248 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If I get these things for cheap I always try to keep them. Its worth it just for the engine cuz it’s rebuildable. Those Kohlers are pretty stout engines.
    The cheapest I’ve paid for a tractor was $100 and it was abt rusted out but had good usable parts I wanted.
    15-40 is actually a good oil for these because the oil in the 80s had more zinc in it that the Dsl oil has. Any old engine run 15-40 unless it’s a 2-Stroke Detroit. 10-30 is kinda too thin for these engines. Thing is 40+ yrs old, tolerances are not what 10-30 should be so 15-40 is a good choice.

    Have you checked forums to see what kind of following they have? I’m guessing there are collectors who would purchase these in any condition for restoration or parts.
    You sort if discounted the original deck, but I’ve seen people repair ones in that condition, which would keep a major component original.

    Levi, could you please increase the audio overall? Yours is pretty good, but there are times when you’re not as close to or addressing the mic and it’s difficult to hear what you’re saying. As I tell creators all the time, on our end we can always adjust our volume down but once we get to the maximum there’s nothing else we can do. Thanks, buddy!

      Thanks for the feedback! My video editing skills are slowing getting better and I've been trying to address the audio quality issues. The purchase of a mic is in the near future!

    No deck, in present condition, worth a hundred bucks to some old dude who loves Wheel Horse mowers and wants to restore it.

    Not bad for an old mower. Would enjoy your channel much more if you would leave out the cursing. I see no need for it.

      I've cleaned it up quite a bit since these early videos but the occasional one slips by. Thanks for watching!
