- Our American friend Bill who has been staying next to our Beach Land at Mama Rose's Resort was really surprised! Why? Because a pod of dolphins showed up and greeted him in the morning!
The coast of Davao Oriental and Cateel is home to a lot of beauty. The water here is clear and clean... and home to turtles, dolphins, and other various sea creatures. On this day, I head from the beach into Baganga with Kumar to sort out my broken Macbook. Living Province life in the Philippines means one must be ready to not have "everything available" around them. For example, my broken macbook pro... no chance it can get fixed here. I have to mail it to Davao City.
We do some life errands in Baganga, then head back to the beach to hangout. In the evening, I planned on introducing our new American friend and his dog more, but unfortunately the dog suddenly got hurt.
But all is good. And most of our surprises on this day were positive. Another Philippines beach day, with a cool American guy next to our home.

As a kid, I loved traveling by ferries because there were always dolphins following the ships from the port. It's the source of their Visayan name - "lumba-lumba", "one who races [with the boat]"

The corn is Mais Bisaya. It's an heirloom cultivar in the Visayan regions and meant to replace rice. Characterized by being white, with small cobs. It sometimes has multicolored kernels, like red, purple, blue, pink, etc. It's a direct descendant of Nahuatl corn from Mexico during the Spanish colonial period. Sadly, I think it's becoming less and less common as farmers switch to imported yellow corn.
