We got a giant Lapu Lapu in Cateel, and Kumar decided to cook it sweet and sour escabeche. But first, it was off to see Mama Rose for some fun life talk, and a quick trip to the Barangay for some support in cleaning and preparing the fish!
Kumar is a great cook. In this video, we not only get to experience his style of Lapu Lapu Escabeche, but we also get to try our Austrian friends unique apple dessert. This is a classic Philippines beach home cooking night, and a really great time just chilling here on the coast in Davao Oriental, Mindanao.
Do you like sweet and sour Lapu Lapu? It is definitely one of my favorite foods here in the Philippines.

Humans are so identified with the race, religions, caste, creed, etc…in the end WE ARE ALL HUMANS….This is a freeing line!
One thing I always have loved about your channel is, you let the locals get PLENTY of time to talk, it is so good to hear how Filipino people talk, many vloggers fill the entirety of their videos with mostly them talking, that is cool, but definitely if you are in a mall, or on the streets, or in the provinces, it is so enjoyable to me to get to hear those Filipino voices; so thank you for that BecomingFilipino.

I will try Kumar' s version of lapu lapu escabeche.the fish was steamed instead of the usual frying.That is much healthy,steaming than frying.thanks Kumar .

You know why "Padigo" or food sharing is special to me, Kulas... Being a child we lived in a humble neighborhood, and my family lived a "less difficult life" as my father worked overseas then and my mother was a teacher. Food sharing stuck in me because we had a neighbor, Manang Bella who always brings us food whenever she cooks something nice. And my mother did the same. Actually everyone in the neighborhood shared food. But why do I attribute "padigo" especially to Manang Bella? Manang Bella's husband was sick, she was doing laundry for a living, had four kids and they lived in a small shanty bahay kubo. 😊 I had the best childhood and will carry "Padigo" for the rest of my life.😊

First time I've seen escabeche(sweet and sour) fish. With the fish being steamed. I only ever saw the dish being prepared with fried fish. I am going to try this method.

The Lapu -Lapu fish is really fresh .. Kulas my Husband is German / Swiss but they came over to the New World before it become . USA. And his ancestors Founded the small town ofThormount where they settle in .Krieger means Warrior in German but they chance it into English Spelling .
