L.A.B. Golf Instruction Series: Thumbs-Off Drill

Whether you're a new L.A.B. Golf putter user or have had one for awhile, you can use the Thumbs-Off Drill to help you hole more putts.
By taking your thumbs off the putter, you won't be able to use your hands to control the putter face. And that's a good thing because L.A.B. Golf putters stay square by themselves.
Maybe you'll find that you've been trying to hold the face square through impact or flipping it shut at impact like you used to have to do with your other putters.
Or maybe you'll find that the current grip you're been using isn't the best way to putt with a L.A.B. Golf putter since you don't need to stabilize the putter face.
Remember... you don't have to KEEP the face square with a L.A.B. Golf putter. You just have to LET it stay square. The Thumbs-Off Drill will help you do that so you can start more putts online and improve your distance control.

got my Mezz1.Max a week ago and I no longer worry about getting the ball on line. My grip adjustment is pretty much Sam Hahn's in the video, I took my thumbs off, but letting the left thumb rest very lightly on the MCP joint (had to look that one up) of my right thumb while that one hovers over the grip. It does help in keeping my hands to feel 'connected'. Haven't got any play data yet as just developed a frozen right shoulder - while quite frustrating having just been fit to a new set or irons in July, at least that'll have me perfecting my short game in the months to come. Thank you L.A.B. for giving me this wonderful putter to bridge the gap to having a fully mobile shoulder again.

Just picked up a MEZZ 1 yesterday and while the initial results were good on the putting green, I did feel myself tending to still pull some putts. This looks like a great drill to maybe work on that. I'll try it today!

Weakening the left hand grip in a reverse overlap came to me intuitively practicing with the putter and I have not found a more productive grip for nearly a year now. Great video and instruction.

went to the store the last 2 days spent about 45 minutes each day ,with the mez 1 went my normal left hand low made 9 0f 10 from 5 ft twice 4 of 5 from 8 feet .When i get my putter in i will be able to take to the course where the greens arent rolling at 13 to see better , but i,,m already in love and cant wait to get it

Is it crazy to make the thumbs off drill your actual putting grip? I'm putting so well with this drill and don't really know what to do with my thumbs anymore

I do this for putts under 5 feet and it’s been great. Whatever works for you man!

Why should you put the ball a little forward in your stance? What is the science behind that?

because most putters have offset hossel that leaves the shaft above the ball, LAB putters are not offset and cone straight down into teh putter so you need to move the ball forward or it would be under your putter head
