Why We're Obsessed With This Putting Training Aid

- Some people say your stroke should be stroke be straight back and straight through, and others say it should it arc.
At L.A.B. Golf, we think they're both talking about the same thing but in different ways. And we illustrate that with a putting training aid called "The Putting Board," which we're all pretty obsessed with at L.A.B. Golf.

That is easily the clearest demonstration I have seen yet of putting plane, face angle etc. What a great tool! Thanks Sam 😃
Im mind blown that I just got the greatest run down on how putting works from a guy in slides, jeans, and a hoody. LOL! Cant argue with it. Better than any vids out here. Lovin it! Thank you. Cant wait for when you get to chipping
Probably won’t get that, but this was a great video nonetheless. The observation you made re: the hands getting a little back or forward and how that changes the face relative to the path was an eye-opener. Banking that.
About 6 months ago I walked into a golf store. They had a large supply of putters and this place had a large practice putting area. It was raining outside so I hung around. Tried lots of putter then I picked up a lab putter force. I had only heard about and not much at that. So I tried it out. Man it felt really good and I could line it up easily. It just worked. I had no idea about torque control or press grip. The ball simply tracked and there was little tension in my hands and arms. But the price. I put club back in the rack and went home. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Read the reviews and so forth. Today I ordered one.
OMG. Some people push because they get the handle ahead-- thats me thats me. Especially on longer putts. Sam you rock.
L.A.B putters are great. I've had one for 6 months and have never putted so consistently qell iny life 👍🏻👍🏻
I had to watch this several times to absorb the notion that putter coming dead straight back on a line causes mild putter head arch relative to the cup. Well done. Very clear...
Spread the word! It's a powerful thing to understand.
You made one mistake towards the end -- you said "keep the shaft on plane and the head takes care of itself." You should have added "and keep the arc constant, i.e. stationary pivot point". Both are necessary, per your very lucid explanation.
One of the most useful video I've ever seen about putting!!! Thank you so much!! Just ordered DF3!! Can't wait to us ethe putter!
What a great vid, thank you for your passion for putting!
Awesome job Sam! The hands tip is an eye opener. Great stuff
wow... great illustration!
So helpful! Thank you!
Lots of great information!!!
100% agree with this. There is so much confusion around this very topic and this was a perfect way to illustrate the arc is happening but only relative to the target. It is not an arc on the plane of the swing.
I already knew what an amazing salesman he was from the revealer videos. But this video is quite brilliant and I think shows why Sam is in the leadership role that he’s in.
I just ordered a LAB last week. Got the Mezz 1 Max, looking forward to that first round with it!
Excellent insight. Sam is way ahead of these other designers. Getting my Link 1 in the morning.
How do you like it??
mind blown... Ya'll need to do a forum at the PGA show with a couple of full-swing instructors demoing on stage!
Brian Manzella had a product like this and it was some of the best putting I’ve had when I used this method
Also worth noting that if the centre point moves laterally (towards the target), there's less arc that you se on the floor. That arc only exists if the radial centre doesn't move. Some of us straight-back-straight-thru putters significantly move the centre along the target line to reduce the arc that's shown on the floor, ensuring more flat faces at impact.
I got one of these bpards about 3 years ago, tried it for a bit and it's been growing cobwebs ever since. I pulled after watching this video and was pleasantly surprised how matching up the shaft with the different colored lines on the board helped improve my stroke! Thanks for posting this. Now i just have to find a fitting store near Sarasota, FL to get one of the LAB putters you are using 👍
You want to sell me your pboard?
Mind so blown I’ve subscribed.
Just placed my order. Can’t wait to try it with my Link. Always looking for great putting training aids.
That's 2 of us...link is in transit and so is this now
You'll love it!
3:10 and 6:22 are PERFECT examples of the putter extending from a point THROUGH the shaft to an endpoint! The face MUST remain square to the origin radius! The putter IS on a (slight) arc, which you are trying to manipulate by forcing it to traverse a straight plane, and working the face closed to the radius during takeaway, and open after impact!
The essence of LAB putter
wow..gold
See-More Putters also have had this Lie-Angle-Balance, sine 1999...they call it Face-Balanced-At-Impact. Beautiful.
I just bought the MEZZ 1 max arm lock
Will it match up with the board lines?
You'll need to draw your own because of the extra shaft lean that's built into Arm Lock style putters
@@labgolf Hi Sam, any chance you could show us what we should be drawing to ensure we get it right?
Just impatiently waiting on my custom Mezz Max via my local shop to arrive... then my DF that I also custom ordered from LAB because... idk hahaha
Great vid Sam. I am purchasing a Lab Broomstick mezz1 max and I just ordered this board as well, however, I am concerned thr may not be enough clearance at the base to arc the club head at 79.5”. Can you add a video showing how to use this with your broom? Thx.
It's not going to work for a broom, unfortunately. It can't be positioned upright enough.
Super helpful. Love me new mezz1.
Can se use it with a mezz1 max Broomstick ? Thanks. Rico
Awesome Vid Sam. What’s the training device you are using please? Thanks.
“the putting board” is what it’s called.
Hey Sam, I have the DF, Mezz.1 and Link. Love LAB!!
(I did crack up when you removed the shaft alignment aid and sure enough missed the putt!! 😂😂😂)
Thinking about the Mezz Max in the broomstick style… thoughts??) Craig Thanks!!
No excuses, but I do think we set up the putting board a little too far to the right. Have a you used a broomstick before? It's a fantastic way to putt.
@@labgolf No, haven’t tried yet. Do you or have you used the broomstick style? I used an odyssey mallet before going to LAB, but was a pretty terrible putter. I’ve dropped 4-5 putts per round with LAB. I’ve actually improved my lag putts going to Link. Would you recommend trying the Long Putter. It’s an expensive test to buy one!! Haha
We have an incredible amount of broomstickers in the office. For some, it's transformative. Hit up customer service and they can tell you how to make a broomstick fitting video so we can dial in your specs.
Im considering a LAB MEZZ. I use armlock with hands (apex) forward due to shaft lean. How will I have to adjust using the board to accommodate the shaft lean? Gary Barnes
Yes, a putter will shaft lean will require you to draw your own lines.
How do you draw your own lines? I have a df
This is the same thing that happens when you sharpen a knife using a TSprof or Edge Pro style of sharpener.
Link to this product?
How is this video the most effective puting lesson I ever got. Any chance Putting Board or LAB comes out with a DF3 version with updated lines? :)
Glad to hear, and that would be rad! For now, the best thing to do is simply draw your own lines.
First time seeing this training aid.... HOW?
Mind blowing, right? That's how we felt, too.
I went to your site but can’t find the training aid.
He’s not affiliated with it. It’s called “the putting board” google it and you’ll find it.
Sam…thank you for the information and Demo. This may be a dumb question, but can I use this aid with my Mezz Max Broomstick ?
Unfortunately, the Putting Board doesn't accommodate broomsticks at this time.
@@labgolf Sam..thank you for the reply. Looking forward to the DF3 Broomstick. I’ll buy one immediately.
Where do I buy one from in Australia?
You can check our fitting locations (labgolf.com/fitting-locations/) or order from us online.
Glad you got a pedicure for this video of knowledge! Now it is sold out!
Isn’t there another type of putting training aid that’s similar to this?
🤯
do you know if the putting board works equally well with broomstick putting style?
The current product maxes out at a 75-degree lie angle, but we have been talking to the company about making some changes that we think would help our customers.
Is there an update to this question? Have changes been made?@@labgolf
It's not something that can be done overnight. It's a revamp of the product.
I understand that. I just don't know how old this video is so I was inquiring about whether any progress had been made on that front. Thank you.@@labgolf
What grip does he have on his? I don't see it on LAB site
That is the L.A.B. "Simple Cord" grip. it's available on LINK.1 Custom and in our shop: labgolf.com/shop/grips/simple-rubber-cord/
@@labgolf Gotcha. His looks more greyish so that’s why I was asking
@@labgolfdoes the forward press grip work with the Link1?
Nice job Sam. Put on some socks though.
I guess my question is if this training aid exists why bother with your type of putter compared to traditional putters? Just generally curious
Because you can't putt with a board on a golf course.
Really enjoyed the explanation with the visuals but please get rid of that annoying background music.
It's much more soothing than the noise coming from the build shop that it's covering up
just a thought: if our wait time is a month out on a custom putter... youre making enough money to hire people to make your customers wait time much shorter considering you can't "try" these putters any were. the mezz @ the pga store doesnt count.
We're building out our team as fast as we can to reduce lead times. No excuses, but there is quite a bit of training we do we hire new builders. We know what our customers expect when they order a putter from us.
@labgolf again, you've had plenty of time to do this so our wait time on a putter that you can't try ANYWHERE isn't weeks out. It's the only thing keep you from my $1,000 dollars. Lol, do better.
@@drakedickey6802 wow... you must be a lot of fun. You want a "custom' putter balanced perfectly and want in NOW. LOL. Take a lap.
@@jboww196 someones triggered. at this time.... they were behind because they were mass producing for the PGA super store. sit tf down, Mr. +18 lol
pretty sure this is what Jesus looked like
