Hi guys! Next stream, could you possibly show some quick CPU/GPU temps? I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate seeing how these odd cases perform (ignoring standard test methodology of course).
Steve, I called the Nintendo hotline. I was stuck on Ultima Exodus I knew the next step was to go to an area, but the game would not continue. I had hand-drawn maps for this game on graph paper but I could not figure out what was wrong. The person on the phone knew my answer right away he said I found a bug where if I did not go directly from one area to the other area it would not work, the workaround was to return to the expected area and then to the objective. Their answer worked. If I remember correctly it cost under 10 bucks for the entire call. About the case, it would look sick if it had a curved clear glass exterior.
I called the Nintendo hotline on Final Fantasy 3 (American version). At the very end of the opera song, there was a part where you were supposed to pick up some flowers and toss them over the edge. I spent days, DAYS, trying to figure out what they were talking about. The sprite used for the flowers didn't look at all like flowers to me and/or I didn't know I could interact with them in a certain way. I called in multiple times. Gave up. Came back weeks later and asked someone else to follow the instructions give to me. They figured it out.
I bought this case a few months back. Both times it came broken because the box barely had any protection. Well I'm glad I didn't invest in it further and just returned it.
M-atx should never die.. itx drives me crazy with how much upgradeability and features you sacrifice for small form factor but with m-atx you usually just lose a few pci-e and m.2 ports so the board is shorter
Alienware is watching this, going, "This could be our next case design, if the temps are high enough. I wonder if we could replace that little screen in front with more glass."
I don't understand why you wouldn't make a box box shaped. That is the practical shape for a PC case to be. Boxes have been around for a long time and the dynamics of boxes are so well understood that any discussion about not understanding them is ludicrous. What the hell is wrong with boxes? I find boxes with minimal, roughly symmetrical adornments to be aesthetically pleasing and elegant, they're easy to make and and rack and stack, and easy to maintain and clean and more durable than weird shapes with weird plastic vents everywhere, which tend to catch on things and become filthy.
Am I the only one who really likes this form factor? If the front was fully meshified and there was room in the back for like 2x90mm exhaust fans side by side, above the motherboard I/O, and the acrylic cover was perforated on the GPU side, I think this could work really well thermally AND look cool.
Those little arctic usb fans I have several of and use them all the time! I have 2 on my desk at work for some cool air without making too much noise when I'm on the phone or blowing paperwork everywhere. I also have one on my bedside for almost silent breeze on muggy warm evenings
That case doubles as a bullet space heater. When you get too frustrated trying to build in it there's an optional kerosene heating unit that slides in with a metal top shroud by Coleman.
Hardware Canucks have recently done a few good videos on downdraft coolers, obviously not the same style video as GN but it has a lot of good information
Steve should take some time off and focus on his hobby of endoctonrating male youths into a new sexual mindset. Patrick is an amazing homosexual lover to the youths. Thanks to Steve's extremely-learned guidance; maybe he should be in charge of this channel's main mission of indoctrinating gay youth into slavery.
I had one case with a 200mm fan on top, i think it was a coolermaster case. Was my first full pc build, i turned it on the first time after building it and the blades hit the fan housing and several of the blades exploded into a bunch of pieces instantly before my finger even left the power button. That was like 12 or so years ago, since then i have steered clear of 200mm fans and coolermaster entirely.
This case is sold here in my country in Asia too. There's a couple of brands but the shape and features are the same. I'm pretty sure there's a bigger version for ATX boards too, but I think they haven't changed the 2-slot GPU thing so it's very disappointing. You'd think a wind-tunnel like shape would make this case very cool on a temperature standpoint as long as the fans are good, but it's more bling than actual functionality structure-wise IMO which is very disappointing. They could've just done a good mesh on the front and had 4x120mm fan mounts there for ventilation power.
I kind of followed your example steve, did some local PCC courses and found them to be pretty non-educational as I already knew most of the knowledge they were trying to teach due to being more self-taught, however the instructors and people I met were great and that made me keep coming back until I lost my part-time job and could no longer pay for any more classes. I then joined the USAF and did a single 4-year tour working on the C-130 Flight Simulator at McChord AFB in Tacoma. And here I volunteered to go overseas like Japan and Germany and the UK but found that all the overseas simulators were already being maintained by private contractors so could only go state side and this is how I ended up at McChord. Living in PDX made it quite nice actually as Tacoma is about 180 Miles north on I5.
G'day Steve, Patrick & Andrew, Sad I missed the stream again😞, maybe my repeated missing of the Streams this year can go on the 'Disappointment Tour Shirt' 😁 I saw Brian's original build video, so cool you finally got around to having a look at this PC Case, I hope Brian & his family are well as he hasn't posted a video on either of his channels for a couple of months
Would definitely be interested in downdraft cooler reviews. It's not something I need to know about often, but it has occasionally come in useful. Though, usually with that being smaller formfactor stuff, I'd just explain that smaller stuff gets pricier and recommend the NH-L9x65. Since it's relatively compact but still a good performer.
@Limerence not sure if /s but the only airflow in that case isn't in the mobo area. The single 200mm fan is seemingly completely blocked off by glass, except in front of the HDD mount.
We did turn it on. It's at the end of the stream. It is not "quick" to do an accurate benchmark as we'd need to build an OS for this test platform. This was a build, not really meant to be a review.
@@GamersNexus We don't care about accuracy in a livestream, it's just for fun. "Oh, look how bad this is!" "We removed a panel, it made some difference!" Just put a disclaimer on the screen saying it is not a representative test, and enjoy yourself lol
I hadn't seen this case before and it's funny, about 7 years ago I bought a used butane tubular space heater with a big fan at one end with the intention of building a PC in it but it was just a lot bigger than I expected. I was going to mimic flames with RGB LEDs and everything. Maybe such a thing is still possible but that space heater is gone.
Ah, yes. The question about gashing yourself on the I/O cut-out brings back memories! The customary blood sacrifice and (profane) oaths to the deities of tech! It was compulsory in the early 90s that you put a little of yourself in to every build. Literally.
For the one asking about hair. My routine is shampoo, conditioner after washing, leaving in hair until final Rinse. Dry hair not completely dry, then run argon oil through hair. Let air dry. This streaming technology of TH-cam is amazing. They somehow manage to make it so you can even watch it in the future after it happened. Never seen before stuff
I did a build in this case last summer for my grandnephew! I got the case as a Newegg Shell Shocker for $108.99 with a $10 gift card. It turned out much better than yours. I did push pull water cooling with two 240 AIO coolers stacked in the middle with top exhaust. I used a 2080 Ti Kingpin Hydro with an Intel 10850 CPU/Corsair AIO and both the thermals and sound levels were great! I stress tested it using F@H with both CPU and GPU max loads. A LOT OF HEAT POURED OUT THE TOP but component temps were very reasonable. I also added some fan ring lights to the top and magnetic LED strips to each side and it was glorious! I have pics so it really happened…
First PC PC.... an old XT, and I only got that in 1996.... was a monochrome 80's version of a laptop at that. around 99 I started buying bits from the local bits place and built a dx4-100 with an expandable 4meg Diamond stealth with a Voodoo 3D accelerator. From there hax An AMD FX w/ 16 meg video and then finally in 2011 started actually upgrading to semi recent machines. I've had a fun run.
52:00 definitely interested in seeing more info on downdraft coolers!! i currently have the Noctua NH-C14S in my NR200. i will be changing the case to a Hyte Revolt 3 and would like to consider an downdraft air-cooled option.
@@JesusSerranoFireandIce Well... I completed my Hyte Revolt 3 build; itwas the EASIEST ITX build I have have ever done!! I've build in the Lian Li TU-150 twice and the Cooler Master NR200 once, but neither come close in terms of ease of installation and cable management. I used my own Silverstone SX700 LPT PSU and I needed ZERO extensions. The "top down" Noctua NH-C14S fit with no probs at all. Instead of mounting a 140mm fan on top of the cooler, I mounted two (2) 140mm fans on the hinged door. The bottom fan is located above the cooler. On the underside of the cooler I placed a pressure optimized 120mm fan. All of these fans are exhausting air; so it really a "bottom up" setup. 😁 Anyways, I'm supremely pleased!
I KNOW it's dumb... but I want to build these into a Alex drawer setup as a two-PC build to make it seem like engine nacelles. It's a horrible idea, but it might actually look cool.
if yur AC is that loud I'd recommend to have it checked over either the compressor is on it's way out or the vibration dampening is rotten an other possibility is that it was installed incorrectly outright but an AC shouldn't be that loud
Gamer's Nexus is much more scientific and precise than other channels would do. Takes a specific audience to appreciate the effort. Gamer's Nexus is an important part of the bigger picture.
I never did understand why micro-atx never got more love - compact size with no compromises on performance seems like a great sweet spot. IMO standard ATX is more than the average gamer or home user even needs these days, we put a gpu and maybe some kind of wifi card and that's about it.
This case needs to be carried around on your shoulder like an 80s boom box and wired to your keyboard and VR goggles for the full Decker looks. Bright green jeans and white Reebok pumps optional.
This channel has quickly become a favorite. I went from having a vague interest in diy PC building to deeply immersed in the online community in just a few short months.
I’d have to agree with the other viewer that the fans should blow upwards in this case. Not because warm air raises or because they would blow hot air onto the motherboard. But because on the blowing side of a fan, the air moves straight, while on the sucking-side of a fan, it moves from all directions. So when you install it upwards, air gets moved out of the case more efficiently and doesn’t recirculate it as much.
Been waiting for this PC build ever since I saw it reviewed 6 months ago and he said he was sending to Steve for this day. and it arrived in one piece too.
This case reminds me of my first car subwoofer. It was one of those bass tube things from the late 90s early 00s also had the road gear cold cathode 6x9 rings lol
What bloody Melon decided it was a good idea to make a case based on airflow with one giant fan in the front and then block 75% of that fan with a solid cover?
Before the mesh trend started 2 or 3 years ago, that pretty much describes most of the flagship cases on the market, several RGB fans right behind a big pane of glass.
Steve, I'm from the future but I just wanted to reassure you that I can indeed hear you. Not because this is useful information or because I think that you're currently live, but instead because I think it's possible that doing so so quickly after the video finishes and comments are open will get me fake internet points or one of those creator hearts with extremely low effort. I don't know what, if anything, I can do with a GN heart but it has to be important otherwise why would I want it so much?
About $60-70 here in the Philippines. thanks for this build/review! been thinking about getting this maybe if price lowers. after watching all i dont think i want to get this anymore haha
First comp was a Commodore 64. Then a hand built 486 with a cyrix processor ... Then a pentium Acer.... 😔.... I miss the old B.B.S. days.... Many here be like whhaaaattt?BBS basically Early Internet. Bulletin Board System. So much fun....
Just a note about that case: If you delete the drive cage and the front "glass", use an SFX power supply and get a little happy with a dremel you can actually fit a 200mm radiator in the front (if you can find one), plus a decent pump and reservoir for one hell of a custom loop. The only downside is, you won't be able to use hard line, which means no matter how well done it is the community is going to shit all over you, but it works well enough to keep a 9900k frosty.
I can't believe he almost put the fan on backwards!! I'm freaking out! I can't believe that you turned off the AC even though the AC was super loud and annoyed chat! I can't believe that I'm engaging with a Livestream from a month ago!
I built my sons pc in the same case. It's not too bad but I was only putting in a Ryzen 7 with stock cooler and a 1660ti so it had plenty of room. I did add a small fan in front of the gpu to blow more air towards the gpu fan since it only has the little slot on the side.
Sorry guys.. I was obviously trolling a bit with the "cool PC with speaker" question. You took it really well. No way that flimsy case could handle an actual subwoofer movement without disintegrating. Though with two Tesla Valves such a subwoofer cooled case could work, so long as you were always enjoying OG hip-hop while using the PC. Or maybe some really loud ambient. Game-wave.
(Editing this in before posting, hoping this is clear but I feel with a moment of filtering through, you can very easily see what I was meaning) So a bit more of a question on the VERY high-end technical level. With Linus opening up his Labs stuff, and you getting the sound chamber and fan tester going... Has there been any talk about somewhat collaborating? Or looking at trying to put something together under a no-so-uniform umbrella? I get not wanting so it doesn't feel like there is any colaborative angst against certain companies... But also feel it could be a way to potentially make a one-stop place to get good feelings on products with varying feelings that are truly independant but can give a solid back and forth from multiple outlets. Obviously not limited to you and LTT. If it would be done I feel everyone involved would want to have 5-10 (obviously exact numbers being pulled out of the aether) just to have potentially competing ideals (outside of want to bring good numbers and facts, not simply feelings) to make things be much more challenged in different thoughts. I get not wanting to centralize things, but also feel you all could see how wanting to centralize it could be useful.
Steve, the Chinese characters behind the face plate, I believe means "Cool Mic -318 Face Plate" or "KuMai-318 Face Plate" (maybe the KM in the company name stand for "KuMai" 😅 The 2 words in the front seems to play off the homophonic of "player/gamer" (玩家), at the same time as you mentioned, "excellent gaming" as directly translated. All guesses at this point, never know what they actually intended 😂 On the power connector, it actually says "Note: Not a power connector". Very puzzling.
Beeps Costumes reminds me of the Shienhardt Wig Company from 30 Rock which was part of the conglomerate that owned The National Broadcast Corporation prior to XFinity.
I hate wasted space in a case so I won't build out of that cooler master it came with. Probably do an ITX mini gaming build next. Idk I use 6 Nocturne fans in that Lian 3 top 3 bottom directing flow upward 👆 great fans... No thermal paste metal pad easier more consistent lows
Id be interested in seeing a downdraft fan series. They arent something I purchase for my builds, but I have found myself needing them for other peoples builds.
Definitely curious about downdraft cooler performance! I understand using one when it’s your only option in an SFF case, but would love to know if they’re viable in other use cases
lian li o11 mini I love by far best case I ever bought I love it. Liquid cooled with a Kraken because I'm a sucker for the gif screen. My money whatever awesome build. I-9 10900k Rtx 3070 on an Asus master z490. Viewd on a Gigabyte ultra wide 34. 1440p done right...I pulled 3070 from an abs build, what 2 years ago when u couldn't buy a card...Abs gladiator only thing left is the carcass...I sold the I7 and used the money to buy the I9. Need to do something with the board...
I've always pre-mounted air coolers, but I'm really curious- What about an AIO? Do I mount the pump first then install the board and radiator? Or should I install the mobo, socket/ connect everything else, then what? Mount radiator or pump first?
1:14:55 lol, I gave my parents my old I5-7640X PC when Microsoft quit supporting Windows 7, figuring 16GB of RAM and a GTX1080 would be adequate for their uses for quite some time. Or, until Microsoft requires some high tech gee-gaw to continue getting updates. Eh, TBF, I'm not a high end FPS gamer, so it served me just fine as a main gaming PC for a couple years before that. Wasn't any better than a normal I5, but it was kinda fun to mess with a HEDT platform for a bit.
Maybe add some intake fans at the top and hope it doesn't overpower the front. I think it would be best as positive pressure instead of push-pull, but the case as a whole, sucks.
FYI, we turn it on at the very end, after the first black-out cut. Can someone timestamp the tech journalism question? That was a fun one!

You’re coming in clear, Steve.
I agree with James Bilger, we can hear you on the 15th as well, audio quality good. An aside; I couldn't care less about the A/C, def. be comfortable!
Just a note about that case:
If you delete the drive cage and the front "glass", use an SFX power supply and get a little happy with a dremel you can actually fit a 200mm radiator in the front (if you can find one), plus a decent pump and reservoir for one hell of a custom loop.
The only downside is, you won't be able to use hard line, which means no matter how well done it is the community is going to shit all over you, but it works well enough to keep a 9900k frosty.
HELLO STEVE I CAN HEAR YOU
I love what you guys do and where the channels going! I am almost 13 minutes in this video and boy is it painfully slow. Still love you guys!
Ha, well, it's a livestream. They tend to be
I can't believe he almost put the fan on backwards!!
Game-wave.
I can hear and see you ok. Thanks Steve.
I do use downdraft coolers on efficiency focussed or mid power builds - but mostly for optical reasons. Just put a nice fan on it - rgb or not.
Dude I thought that was one of those automatic litter boxes
I own that down draft cooler from be quiet. Have had it for like 4-5 yrs on an x79 system. can also fit another fan under. works great!
55:35 as an engineer, i am SOO glad you mentioned that!!! SMH.
39:07 That's actually a great idea for a calendar and I would buy one every year 😁
I had to work during stream. Glad to have a VOD to chill out with.
Yeah I can hear you loud and clear Steve!
Damn, that case costs that much in the US? Here in Asia, that's being sold for under $60, three colors, black, pink and white
They had manuals that had everything and old school ways to search, i remember those days.😎
Steve, the Chinese characters behind the face plate, I believe means "Cool Mic -318 Face Plate" or "KuMai-318 Face Plate" (maybe the KM in the company name stand for "KuMai" 😅
The 2 words in the front seems to play off the homophonic of "player/gamer" (玩家), at the same time as you mentioned, "excellent gaming" as directly translated.
All guesses at this point, never know what they actually intended 😂
On the power connector, it actually says "Note: Not a power connector". Very puzzling.
I can hear and see you okay :)
the part infront of the fan needs a SAW and a filter. Id cut it open maybe leave a support rail and make it use a HVAC filter that i could replace.
Considering the fact we're talking about gamers, "play out of sight" might be accurate.
Thanks Steve, we can hear you!
Beeps Costumes reminds me of the Shienhardt Wig Company from 30 Rock which was part of the conglomerate that owned The National Broadcast Corporation prior to XFinity.
Your coming through loud and clear, hi past steve
I hate wasted space in a case so I won't build out of that cooler master it came with. Probably do an ITX mini gaming build next. Idk I use 6 Nocturne fans in that Lian 3 top 3 bottom directing flow upward 👆 great fans... No thermal paste metal pad easier more consistent lows
Yeah I have some mATX boxes where I have downdraft coolers, all are NAS boxes. Some are Fractals Node 804 cases.
I can still see and hear you just fine :)
Could be a nice grill as well.
With the right (wrong) components it might do duel service.
Coolermaster Hyper T4 would be ideal for this build as I believe the AMD mounting bracket would place it front to back
Id be interested in seeing a downdraft fan series. They arent something I purchase for my builds, but I have found myself needing them for other peoples builds.
Black mousemat with a sick GOLD backing (that would be slick...... admit ti)
Cover the front in mesh and make it look like a wireless speaker.
Yes Steve you are seen and heard. 🤗
That Steve worked at Dell of all places was quite the interesting revelation.
if you haven't work at dell patrick stone won't let you penetrate him
Definitely curious about downdraft cooler performance! I understand using one when it’s your only option in an SFF case, but would love to know if they’re viable in other use cases
That logo looks like the Predator helm from AVP 1 after he marks it.
hey GN, could you do a video about true sine wave power back up power supplies and potential benefits if any, over a simulated sine?
thanks love
The Corsair 1000D can support MicroATX and a MiniITX, both at the same time.
Overkill is just enough kill.
with the right paint job that could be an interesting wall mounted case
lian li o11 mini I love by far best case I ever bought I love it.
The key to eating the crust of the pizza is to leave an inch or so of pizza, turning what's left, and eat it by the end
I feel like with just a few different design choices this case style could be quite functional.
