    Yeah tank engineers do watch this channel, or at least the ones who enjoy building PCs! For $500 I think they did an alright job on the design of the case. I don't think the steel would be very effective in even stopping a swift kick from a pissed-off foot soldier, but that's okay. It won't see deployment anyway. Unless the military want a cost-effective IFV that can be manufactured quickly.

    Re: revisions for thermals without ditching the "cool" factor
    1. Lose the tempered glass everywhere.
    2. 3x120mm/140mm fan mounts on the top of the turret, where the commander and gunner's hatch would be. Yes it'll be bigger, but you're already not gonna easily fit this one on most desks vs a regular case, might as well go all-in on the tank-ness.
    3. Ensure there's enough space to either flank (and again, ditch the glass on the treads) as to fit at least a 3x 25mm fan and 38mm radiator.
    4. Change the PSU mount so that you can mount fans as intakes ie look like the wheels for the treads without countering the case airflow. As it is the PSU exhaust is blowing counter to any intakes on the other "tread." Like stand it up and have the exhaust pointing down (ie no glass, who's gonna see the cables). Or mount it vertically with the exhaust pointing to the rear (even if half the height will still be inside the case).
    5. Have a non-NATO+Israel+SoKor design ie smaller and more squashed turret. Only one "turret hatch" 120mm fan, squashed turret, mITX board, only 2x140mm on the "treads" but still fit 25mm+30mm (plus of course some space for the end of the rad), SFX PSU mount on the turret next to the exhaust 'hatch.'
    ------
    Re: the RV02 and similar cases,
    1. Are you reviewing the Alta F1? It's a revision of the old Fortress FT05, now with a rad mount technically sort of outside the case (it's on top outside the main chamber)? Standardized review and then maybe a custom loop build on it but dish out the numbers ie temps for it at the same normalized noise levels as with the standard test system but now with different CPU+GPU on two 360mm rads?
    silverstonetek.com/en/product/info/computer-chassis/ALTAF1/
    2. There's a new manufacturer making cases like these Silverstones: Geometric Future. Any chance these will be reviewed too? Model 8 has the power supply next to the CPU so there are side intakes for the graphics card (and whether it's worth getting this just to get intake fans there vs just using the bottom intakes), Model 6 has the power supply to the other side but there are fan mounts along the CPU side.

    Loved the video! This might sound not much like a "weird" case idea, but as someone who has worked in the industry for over 10 years, my favorite case of all time (yes this includes even excellent modern cases) has easily been the Rosewill Thor V2. It's somewhat of an older case, but it is possible to get it NOS in some places. It would be super interesting to hear your take on how an old premium case is to use today. I absolutely love this case, I just bought one brand new off Newegg, and it's probably one of the best cases for SSIEB / E-ATX. It was meant for SLI, has excellent *massive* 140mm / 230mm stock fans, plenty of expansion, surprisingly-decent cable management, and what is in my opinion a very subdued look considering the time period it came out from. It's still modern with USB 3.0, and could be an excellent option for people with truly monolithic builds (such as myself) who are looking for a case that's not just "black rectangle with glass" and would much-rather have the airflow and expansion at all costs. Also as someone who still uses front expansion bays, there really is not a lot of options available (unless you only need one, and even then), and this case is one of the few that does not sacrifice on cooling to achieve this, which is one of many reasons why I love this case.
    Overall, definitely not as externally-wacky like the tank, but should still be quite an interesting experience. It's actually impressive just how much it can still achieve with modern hardware, and it definitely brings advantages to the table that even modern PC cases could pick up on and learn from, so I think it's a good possibility. Let me know if you need help sourcing one :)

      My first build was in the HAF XM the little brother of the HAF X a full tower case that looked like the Thor
      V2. I ran SLI in for a few years until the 1000 series Nvidia cards came out and SLI died.
      Still have the case but its sitting in the shed. I moved my pc innards to a Cooler Master H500. R5 5600, RX6800XT.
      I kind of miss SLI.

    • @xPLAYnOfficial
      @xPLAYnOfficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@iddan1205 SLI was such a wild time. I love it. The interesting thing is that the cases that were meant for SLI rigs still to this day have excellent cooling, great cable management, and a lot of other really-nice options. Because SLI required so much cooling, so much space, and so many cables, the best cases from that time period really are excellent to use still, and they offer such a unique look over the cases of today.
      RIP SLI, but SLI cases can still kick it!

    • @iddan1205

      @@xPLAYnOfficial True I hope to build in the case again. Love the side 200mm fan for the GPU cooling. I just hope AMD will bring it back on a single GPU like old days (never had a xx90 ATI GPU). I started with Intel and Nvidia, but AMD is moving forward like crazy 🤣. Although if Intel and Nvidia get it together, I'll be happy. 🙏

    • @silvershines
      @silvershines 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xPLAYnOfficial SLI was such a short-lived time. I almost built a system with two housefires (GTX 480) back then, but thankfully cancelled. Imo the best part about EATX is the amount of hard drive bays and caddies you usually get; it's very easy to repurpose an old machine into some sort of NAS. Though the downsides are very clear; finding a place for it is annoying and it's terrible moving them around.
      At least dual GPUs are at least making a comeback somewhat in the vfio space. For those who want to game on VMs.

    • @xPLAYnOfficial
      @xPLAYnOfficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@silvershines Very true, but the benefit of PC cases that were meant for SLI means that they were meant to handle high heat loads and lots of cables, something single-GPU builds are easily approaching, especially with the Nvidia 4000 series' reported TDPs.

    2:01:00 To the guy asking about changing from Legacy to UEFI (I know this is 2 days late, and you likely won't see this ever, but also good info to other people): Legacy drives are configured as MBR or Master Boot Record, whereas UEFI drives are typically formatted as GPT or GUID Partition Table. There is a console command that can be done in a boot environment outside of Windows (such as Macrium or any other Boot OS that doesn't access the drive you wish to convert). Once in that boot environment, open Command Prompt and do the following (Remove quotations):
    "diskpart"
    "list disk" - Find the disk drive that you wish to convert. If it's just one drive, it's going to be disk 0
    "exit"
    "MBR2GPT /validate /disk:" - Replace "" with the desired disk drive number. If the validation is successful, you will be able to convert that disk.

    To answer the question about bottlenecking for anyone else wondering:
    Its not an exact method, but looking at a written article or TH-cam review for a given part is a pretty decent way of seeing how well a part can perform when it itself is the bottleneck. If you can run any of the same benchmarks as the reviewer and check the difference you can get a decent, if inexact, idea of how much yours is being held back elsewhere.

    A tank case would be a lot cooler if the tank could actually move and drive around. I'm not sure why but looking at it, I got this crazy idea of a mobile type case in the shape of a hanging fish that 'swims' in the air which uses a micro projector to show the screen. It should be moving the whole time like it was swimming.
    Not practical at all, I know, but the idea just popped into my head as I saw that dumb looking tank case.

    Just a heads up if you decide to run a 3090 ti in this case the 12 pin connector will not fit under the glass. Also dual 360 radiators will fit but you need to move the side glass panels out with spacers to improve airflow. Other than that the case is super cool to work in. And is seriously awesome.

    Theoretically you can have no diff between a simulated sine wave -vs- a "real' sine wave.
    "Real" sines generated by rotating a rotor through a stator naturally creates a sine wave.
    Depending on the cost / quality your natural sine wave a synthetic wave could be cleaner.
    A motor or generator also introduces impedance and noise, if your spending for quality
    a well designed sine wave generator will create a cleaner signal.

    I reckon you could leave the tread glass off and put a row of fans on either side with grills and this'd look pretty sick. With a custom loop it could work, but not for $500 lmao.

    Would be good if you could work out some kind of warehouse or distribution colocation / 3PL supplier. Shipping fees from GN to New Zealand is also prohibitively expensive. Makes the value proposition unworkable when they tack on a 50% fee on top of the product price.
    Meanwhile shipping from China to here costs like 50c to $2 (far cheaper than domestic shipping for the same size/weight) because our representatives got straight up played back in the day... and it apparently hasn't occurred to anyone that the deals should be renegotiated.

    I imagine those side glass pieces are for when you don't want to mount radiators there. Haven't watched most of this just yet, but I think it would look best without the panels there and instead some fat radiators. (fans mounted inside)

    The USA T95 prototype actually used glass armor. It was a special glass core between two steel plates. I really doubt the case creators knew about it though;)

    • @wom_Bat
      @wom_Bat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's a prototype. If it never went into production does it count? It didn't work.

    • @alt5494
      @alt5494 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wom_Bat It was first gen composite armor circa 1954. It worked very well based on the public numbers. It was not the only radically new technology though on the prototype just about everything was new tech. Particularly the smooth bore gun with tungsten carbide rounds & X type diesel engine.

    • @wom_Bat
      @wom_Bat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alt5494 youtuber and former tanker the chieftain has talked about it. The X motor and optical rangefinder were both discarded due to performance, and the accuracy of the smooth bore gun failed performance tests. After 9 years the project was scrapped. A few hulls were used as prototype T118E1 with diffrent engines and turrets. Later leading to the M728 with Paton tank hulls. No T95 or their hulls ever went into service. Pretty much every aspect of the project couldn't perform. It was a failed design. 0 of it's tech was actually used in any design.

    • @alt5494
      @alt5494 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wom_Bat Failure in experimental programs is of widely misunderstood value. When well documented it is of enormous value. The difference between thousands of possible solutions & a few dozen possibilities being the ideal choice. T95 yielded date on multiple engines including gas turbine, numerous mainguns (90mm 105mm 120mm), & torsion bar/drive components. If I remember correctly the only flaw in glass composite armor was the difficulty in field repairs. If a modular approach had been implemented it had potential.

    • @wom_Bat
      @wom_Bat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alt5494 none of the features passed trials or were put into production beyond limited runs for testing. It was a paper tank like the Armata 14 is. You can dig up a lot of cool things well before their time that failed. I'll try to find the chieftain episode where he tears this tank apart in a AMA episode. The hull had to be replaced if damaged which is expensive. You do see some fiberglass turrets but that's because they are more often replaced then hulls. The tank used silica glass. It's better then the ceramic we use now in theory. The glass silica is harder then steel but also much more brittle and would shatter where hit and crack up all around the section hit. The only thing to really come from that project was the concept of composit armor using silicone, which was fairly new.
