  • This is the first part of our annual Mallee trip to the desert regions of Victoria. The Murray Sunset National Park is like a natural theme park full of birds and wildlife.
    Nimal was dead keen on seeing a Red-lored Whistler...but was he too late in the season??
    Tom (long time Twitcher & allround good guy) joined us on this trip of a lifetime. Tom is such a knowledgeable dude and knows everything about everything which is pretty helpful when you're out bush like this.
    We stayed at the Parks Victoria Shearer's Quarters in the far north west of the park. We were all surprised as how great it was! Power, cooking facilities, bathroom and very secure. Not to mention the peace & quiet of the place!! We had the whole area to ourselves for the entire stay. Brilliant!!
    The birdlife & animals in the Murray Sunset National Park were amazing!! Totally recommended to stay here in the cooler months.
    So, join us on our first installment of our Mallee trip to some of the most amazing locations Victoria has to offer in one of the most remote parts of the state.

      Thanks so much! 😀 We have been enjoying the Shipwreck Coast this weekend. We were hoping for some whales but that hasn't happened. The Rufous Bristlebird has also eluded us (heard them but they won't come out & play with us). Beautiful coastline & had some fun time with a few other birds so hopefully we'll get a video out of it! (Stockyard video out next though.... and even there the birds were a bit low in numbers but it was a beautiful evening!!) Hope you are having a wonderful long weekend too! ~ Karen

    Also also: those Apostlebirds made my heart melt! Their behaviour very much reminds me of Jungle Babbler, that I've encountered in India. Lovely critters they are 🥰

      I love the Apostlebirds! They are one of my all time favourite birds. They are so inquisitive and very social. I saw them land so sat down on the ground (and glad I set up the gopro) as they just saw me & ran on over to check everything out 😄 Then they headed over to the house & the water bowl for a bath. Such funny birds!! We thought they might come back the next day but they never did return ~ Karen

    After binge watching all your video catalogue over the last weekend this one couldn't come soon enough. Love the spirit of these mini docos and I shoot a G9 100-400 also!

      I love my G9! Even though a small grip on the side has fallen off somewhere, I really like the way it fits in my hand. It takes great video! I do get some sharp photos too but I think its video capabilities are its best feature. Thanks so much for watching our channel!! 😀 Time to get cracking on the next video! ~ Karen

    Will be back in Vic in less than a week's time and heading to the Mallee, thank you for the vlog showing this year's condition! Still remembered how worse the flood was in the previous year. Cheers and greetings from Hong Kong :)

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yes the previous years were really wet!! Nimal & Tom's trip in 2021 had lots of flood waters they had to avoid (shame we weren't doing videos then as it would have been quite interesting!). I think you'll have a wonderful time in the Mallee when you arrive. This year is going to be pretty hot & dry (but we are expecting a cold change over this week so hopefully it will be just lovely & warm when you're there!). Have fun on your trip & thanks for watching! 😀

    Currently watching this video on my TV. I must say they are getting better and better. I'm also really enjoying Nimal's subtle sense of humour. I must follow your lead and go further afield, I rarely get out of Truganina Park and Newport Lakes.

      Awesome!! 😀 Thanks for the feedback! I am hoping that our videos are improving. We're adding more of our personalities in there & Nimal is quite funny so it's great to capture that. I highly recommend going further afield! There's so much to explore out there!! 😀 ~ Karen

We have some wonderful places to visit for wildlife & birds and Melbourne is pretty central for all parts of Victoria which is quite helpful! Oh wow this was a great video! You were so lucky seeing all the cool birds and we are so happy you share it with us. Staying alone at that campground.. well it was brave! 😄

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was a great experience! I have to say that staying at the camp by myself was really peaceful and I wasn't worried..... until 2 men turned up in a car while I was inside the building and they entered the gate 😳 So I went outside to say hello & explain what the property was all about. They were so dodgy!! I went back inside the building & locked the doors until they left. But... apart from that 😀 it really was a wonderful spot and the birds & wildlife right on the doorstep were amazing! ~ Karen

    I'm looking forward to more videos from this trip, so exciting! Sadly we won't have time to get to those parts of Victoria on our planned trip. The only thing getting close to that habitat will be a planned visit to Gluepot Reserve in SA, which we'll reach by starting from Adelaide. However, as far as I understand, there are some species in common with what you see here (fingers crossed).
    I couldn't really watch and comment when you uploaded, bcs my internet router died a painful death exactly then! I watched it on the phone, but commenting is such a pain in the you-know-where that I simply refused. Neither is it any joy to watch this material on that tiny screen, so I'll rewatch it now, when my beloved desktop is back online!

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nothing worse than computer problems!! I hope it's all back up & working now 🙂 What I've heard about Gluepot is all good. Apparently it's an absolutely fabulous place to see so much!! You'll be in the right place to see all the inland birds so you'll have loads of fun there!! ~ Karen

      Nimal had a better interaction with a Striated Grasswren on our last year's Mallee trip in Hattah but he was happy to see one again this year (pretty poor video & no photo) but he was pretty happy to see it anyway 😀 ~ Karen

    Hi Guys, the birds are great but by gee I wish you would eliminate that music!

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      😁 Thanks for your comment. In a perfect world, the birds would be calling, no wind noise & we wouldn’t be mumbling odd comments 🤣 but in reality we often have to remove the annoying noise & music creates a mood when there’s nothing else there. We intend to get some good quality mics soon so that should help. Thank you for letting us know & thanks again for the feedback 😊 ~ Karen
