    • @thefirstbourne149
      @thefirstbourne149 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Cornberry Just two problems I have with it, maybe 2.5 problems. Sometimes the fight goes on just a little too long, and we really are only supposed to get a small glimpse of what saber fights look like, not to mention, the amount of rooms they head into really doesn’t fit in with the continuity of the film. But, hey...that’s really only have of a problem. My two real problems kinda come from the end of it and that one flashback dialogue. Whether you liked the prequels or not, I think that line of dialogue was a little too updated, and again, is a bit of a continuity issue. We didn’t watch Episode III yet, and it’s treating this movie like it was already released before this one. It may be just the fault of how they are named, but this is why one person on Metacritic thought Empire’s twist sucked because he thought it was not really a surprise, because Episode III, which **sputters** totally came before Star Wars, already showed the dad becoming Darth Vader. My other problem with this scene is, that they actually changed an event that was supposed to be important to how Jedi pass away. Unless Darth Vader just cut the robe and Obi-Wan actually disappeared before then in this video, then I’m pretty sure you just showed Vader cutting Obi-Wan in half to kill him.

    • @thefirstbourne149

    The thing about this that makes it so great is you can feel the person playing Vader channeling his hatred and anger in the fight scene. Makes it so authentic.

  • @stonecold3172
    @stonecold3172 5 ปีที่แล้ว +146

    The beauty of the scene is that it gives us a glimpse into an ancient group of Warriors that had been long forgotten. The fight scene between these 2 makes everything and everyone around them seem so slow and natural while this fight scene makes them seem supernatural. It truly makes their ancient order seem more magical, I believe it improves episode 4 brings greater gravity and drama to who the jedi were, beyond that it shows us even more how much of a novice Luke Skywalker was.

      Heavens Dark Phoenix And if you analyze the fight, even at the very beginning, Vader is winning. Obi-Wan is just as skilled as he was back in Episode 3, but he’s older, and doesn’t have the strength, durability, or stamina he used to have. That said, he is still a force to be reckoned with. Darth Vader, on the other hand, is far slower than he used to be but he strikes with far more force than he used to. And, unlike Obi-Wan, is able to keep up the brutal aggression throughout the fight. And he is constantly making Obi-Wan give ground. It’s amazing that Obi-Wan, a Master of the Force, survived as long as he did against a man who is in agony every second of his life. This just shows how awesome both Vader and Obi-Wan are.

Are the way Obi Wan moves with his saber...despite being very old, the Force is still very strong with him...and is assisting in his movements. And also, the way Vader fought...was very brutal, and very aggressive...and it's cool, that they included some saber techniques that Anakin would've used. All in all, very great scene.

    I posed this question on the actual video and got some good responses.... If this HAD been the lightsaber fight in the original movie... Put aside the "These effects weren't around back then" and the "this question is nonsensical" argument aside for a second and suspend your disbelief. But if this HAD been the fight in ANH, would we be saying THIS is the best lightsaber fight instead of the Empire vs Return debate..and I guess I'll throw the Revenge fight in there too. I'm personally on the Empire side of the argument but if this had been the first fight I had seen who knows. And then seeing the prequels would have completely changed the way I saw it and added a whole new dimension.
    Actually my biggest regret in my movie watching life was that I saw the Star Wars movies out of order. I saw RoTJ first when I was over my buddies house and that's what got me hooked. Then I tracked down and saw ANH and THEN ESB. So yes, I NEVER got to experience the "OH MY GOD!!!!" moment of "No, I am your father." That was actually one of the last scenes I saw of the original trilogy. Burns me up to this day. My best Star Wars twist moment I got to experience was the Revan twist in Knights of the Old Republic

    It's great that in this duel there is very little spinning, because spinning and exposing your back to an opponent in any fight is not a good idea, (90% of the time, granted there are rare exceptions) never mind one with melee weapons lol, there is no silly flips either, and the two of them use actual guard positions and actually work from the bind which was done well and didn't last a half hour like in some movie duels lol.

    I like to think that with Yoda, and old man Obi-Wan they are so closely linked to the Force that it helps protect them and keep them more nimble than your average elderly person. So it kind of helps make sense of those intense hits and how they move so fluidly compared to just a regular joe elderly.

    The thing I like about this scene, and it answers why Vader didn't just throw his saber at Obi Wans head, is this is Vaders "coup de grâce", Vader is reveling in this fight, he's enjoying defeating Obi Wan, he knows he's way to strong for him and he will inevitably win, so he wants to drag it out and savor the moment, the look on Obi Wans face as he is struggling to hold up under Vaders attacks fuels Vader, this is everything he's dreamed of since Mustafar.

    @ 9:40 Well Obi Wan wasn't THAT old. Tatooine's harsh desert environment can wreak havoc on your complexion after living their for many years, making you look older than you really are. Okay now that I got that bit of nerdy lore out of the way, this was an awesome fan re-imagining and I applaud everyone involved who tried to make this look as perfect as possible.

    What I really like about this reimagination is that it reminds me why they named it "Star WARS". They didn't call it "Star Fighter Skirmishes" or "Star CGI Creatures". Now, I totally understand that back in the late '70s, the tech for movie making was only up to a certain stage, but the series is called Star Wars, and SC38 Reimagined makes me feel like I've witnessed a war.

  • @stevenmoore4612
    @stevenmoore4612 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I completely agree with you on just having the lightsaber duels remastered with CGI! Not the scenes with the original creatures, like jabba for example in the remastered just wasn’t the same as the original animatronic. Some things just shouldn’t be tampered with, and that is one of them. Of course almost any fight scene has the potential to look amazing if done right using CGI. This remake has the perfect blend of the original nostalgic scene that we all know and love, yet the CGI just completes it in a good way!

    I’m kinda torn on this...on one hand I would love to see this edited in and be considered canon.
    On the other hand, in part thanks to videos from channels like skallagrims, I’ve come to enjoy seeing more realistic looking duels with blade weapons, and in the original star wars, the person acting as vadar was using a couple more realistic feet movements and techniques, as was obi-wan. The kinds you might see in an actual HEMA manual. Sure it wasn’t perfect, and there were a few of the silly ballerina spins(something I’ve grown to hate in modern sword fighting choreography) but it was pretty minimal.
    So on one hand things definitely look and feel more aggressive and like obi-wan really is fighting for his life, making things feel more emotional. But on the other hand the original felt so much more realistic, at least as much as watching an old man fight a cybernetically enhanced superhuman with blades of pure light energy can be.

    The reimagined scene now tells a deeper story compared to the original fight. You can finally feel there was real intense history between obiwan and vader. The old material only showed the swordfight merely as a tool for conversation intermission and the reimagined just made the swordfight as THE conversation itself.
