The real greatest thing about this film is that not only it fits perfectly within canon, it actually serves as foreshadowing for Maul's lasting desire to have his own apprentice.
We see it in Clone Wars and in Rebels with Savage Opress, Ahsoka and Ezra.
In here, the reason he hesitates to kill the jedi chick is because when he feels her potential and her rage, he thinks "She could do it. I could make her my..." But then, he realizes Sidious is watching. And so he has no choice but to suppress that thought.
It shows he's ALWAYS had that wanting, from the beggining.
This film is basically canon at this point lol.

The thing I love about that final encounter is that it really shows how the people who made this are deep Star Wars fans. Maul new that this girl had a lot of darkness within her, and in that moment he felt power over her and knew that he could be twice as powerful if he took her in as an apprentice. But when he noticed he was being watched, he immediately knew that Sidious was denying him this tool, and that made him even angrier. That seen was so well handled, and only people who truly understand Star Wars lore would be able to pick up on it!

@Loyal Nguyễn if you didn't see him doubt himself, watch his eyes more closely at the end, his expression softens...he sees the drone...knows the emperor is watching...then resolves himself to the kill. For the briefest of moments, their was mercy in him. Whether or not he has no compassion in any other media, has no bearing on what the director was trying to show in this particular short film.

Better than anything Disney could ever do (with the exception of the Mandolorian, Solo, & Rogue One)
These people that made this short film should try to get the rights to make a Darth Maul TH-cam series. It would blow up!!!! 😍

"It should be a live action anthology film."
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING. Though I'd like it to be animated, call it something like Skywalker Stories where it details the skywalkers and everyone around them. I'd certainly like to see more of Qui-Gon Jinn and Ahsoka, maybe figure out where Ezra is...develop Rey more like Clone Wars did for Anakin oh so good.

I mean, considering that 7 and 8 are pretty much back-to-back, that isn't really possible. And 9 was pretty much shortly after that. There's just no place for such a show.

You guys should react to other awesome Star Wars fan films as well. There's literally an entire MENAGERIE of films out there! In fact, here's a recommendation from me right now: The Old Republic: Rescue Mission (2015). Give that film a reaction!

you gotta check out the SW fan film "Days Past"
spoiler: there are no lightsabers… somehow it's still my favourite fan film... it's unique…
the camera work, acting, Story, "character development"
to me it's up there sharing first place with SWT's "Shards of the past" and "Darth Maul:Apprentice"

These people should've been contracted to work on a star wars film. This is the best star wars I've seen since the 80s. Also a anthology show that takes small events from side characters would be dope.
