The great tenor always said his breathing and technique was enhanced by learning from his long time friend and stage partner, Joan Sutherland. I suspect strongly that this wonderful interpretation of this aria has much to do with their close collaboration. True or not, clearly he saw huge potential in 'Che fa senza Euridice' bringing to it strong, tenor emotive qualities which crescendo in a thrilling high coda. The Bari audience loved it, a sound endorsement from a city of culture.
Every now and then some musicians "update" the classical pieces so they make more sense, turning some castrati / pants roles into tenor ones (particularly when they represent a young man whose voice would've naturally deepen) and casting soprani and mezzo for female roles originally performed by castrati. It makes sense that Orfeo sounds like a tenor (or even like a light baritone), as it makes sense that a light/light-lyric tenor is the preferred voice type for young men characters as it is mostly the case from the onset of the 19th century.

J P fa niente, thats my own opinion and I say that in my Collection is ( DVD ) the Performance with Juan Diego Florez at La Scala di Milano, from 2018 and she is amazing, because he has a clear Voice and is able to sing very high Notes sorry but he is my Taste

@@flav2689 You don't yet understand the bel canto technique. You will become a true connoisseur of vocal music when you realize that the masters of the past - Beniamino Gigli, Tito Skipa, Tito Gobbi sang better than Pavarotti or Domingo.
@@ВвВ-ж7с I somehow doubt it - Pavarotti is known especially for bel canto, and praised for it. I love the bel canto style but Skipas voice is not somehow pleasant for me. I like Gigli very much though, but in general I find Pavarottis voice the most beautiful. The colour of the voice and the emotions in it matter to me too, not just the technique. So let's agree to disagree - no problem. But please, calling singing of Pavarotti (and Domingo) banal is not just preposterous, but also makes the commenter look arrogant and full of oneself. Pavs technique was great and his voice truly incredible.
