Ah, the Smachet. Modified from a design used by the Welsh Fusiliers in WW 1 by Mr Fairbairn of the Commando knife fame. Intended to be used by soldiers not equiped with a rifle and bayonet, such as those issued with Stens / Thompsons / Brens I would imagine. Issued to the Commandos I believe.
I do a lot of hunting and hiking, i usually build a natural blind that i can leave up the whole season, but a full sized machete can be awkward and when i am carrying my gear the kabar is pretty hefty and is not so good with light vegetation, i think the smatchet might be the answer, this machete and a folding saw should be all i need to make a ground blind (or survival shelter)
For about one year i own one, next to my kukri's of different size, and i can say: A very handy, versatile and fearsome big knife it is. Won't give it away anymore. The reaction of the most people seeing it for the first time is *GULP* Whoever keeps his stand in front of the smatchet shouldn't be considered as a daredevil, but as an idiot ... (that doesn't go for Gurkhas, of course)
Have you thrown the smatchet. The heavy machete seemed to throw very well. I just ordered two smatchets and two heavy latin for throwing. You are a bad influence in a good way.
+JACKxRAWR The gladius is more fun, between the sharpened back edge and ultra pointed tip, it's more dangerous, and as they say it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
yeah The Smatchet Machete is nowhere as heavy as the original Smatchet was designed, the original one was supposed to be able to crack a skull, but when they made it a machete they took away some of its power
Yah lol gotta love WW2 brutality. say... you should review The all terrain chopper! or the thai machete. also remember that Walther battle axe? how is it now? i have one after seeing your video and i noticed the handle has some serious flex right where the tang and metal collar meet, kinda worried on how it holds up lol
holy shit, I just got one of these for my birthday. Friggin love it.
This guy tests it like a real man. Other channels are cutting the plastic wrap for the delivery box and shaving toothpicks
And here it is! Got mine last week!

Looks like a nice fighter with that guard.

Thanks for watching, homie!
birds seem to corrispond with chops. they're watching you!
If you had to choose between a kukri and a smatchet - which of them is the superior weapon in your opinion?
It can flex a little, that's the machete part!
is there a difference between the (original) smatchet and a barong? size?
are you gonna get the new kershaw camp models ?
Realy nice vid sir !
just ordered one right now,thanks!
+Nein Jawol Congrats, you will like it!
How much trench warfare was there in WW2?
Given the similarity between the Condor Barong and the Cold Steel Smatchet would you recommend one over the other for camping and gardening chores?
Thank you!

What would be best all around survival bowie?
I would love to have one of these for "just in case".
Yes!!! I was hoping I'd get to see the smatchet
hulk smatchet!
do you like this more then the camp 14? (i see they are about the same size)
Did you sharpen this?
I just removed some burring, but didn't sharpen it.
I like the handle of the Smatchet better, but the Condor has a slight better stronger edge.
How does this compare to the Power Eagle? thanks
CRKT Halfachance vs the smatchet?
Is the guard made of metal? And awesome review! I was really looking forward to this one! Ever since you did your cold steel picks of 2013 vid lol
I have and love mine but i live in England and my girlfriend is a high court judge so use of it is very minimal but i love it
How does it throw?
Definitely, the Camp 14 and Camp 18 models.
Awesome!! Keep it up.
A double edged straight blade is better for combat, and or used as a spear. A curved blade is better for chopping.
Have you thrown the smatchet. The heavy machete seemed to throw very well. I just ordered two smatchets and two heavy latin for throwing. You are a bad influence in a good way.
Hulk smash!
What is the angle of edge? I bought one, took it camping and need to sharpen mine.
around 20 degrees but its never perfect
They are, I like the Camp better, but that's why this is less expensive.
Blue Spruce! now very dry hard and gnarly
I was out of breath just watching this.
I once scalped a baseball with my Atlanta Cutlery Smatchet.
Lmao
The barong has a straight spine
Looks good
The Power Eagle is more heavily build and rigid.
I just unboxed a version made by Columbian Survival😉😉😉 Cold Steel makes awesome products.👍👍👍🔪🔪🔪
Well they would have to make a heavier more rigid version of the Smatchet before I'd compare it with a real kukri.
Surely you must be running out of timber to destroy by now!
Reminds me of the Lakonian short sword, anyway I have ordered a Smatchet, I`m in England so will be interesting..
As a "just for fun" blade would you recommend this or the gladius machete? Thanks and keep the great videos coming!
+JACKxRAWR The gladius is more fun, between the sharpened back edge and ultra pointed tip, it's more dangerous, and as they say it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
Kinda like a bolo machete
my collection of machetes are or getting out of control, I just ordered this (my Bolo was first on the list).
More like a Barong.
WeAllJuggleKnives, have you ever thought of getting a Compensator from Artificum Solis?
I believe this is meant for Combat purposes not woodwork
It would be pretty great for combat :] many uses for this
I like it.
It's actually based on the M1909 Bolo knife designed and issued for use in the Philippines
I believe it's actually based of a fussilers trench sword from ww1
Budget zombie knife.
That wood is either super tough, or the smatchet dosen't have much power or you weren't swinging hard lmao
yeah The Smatchet Machete is nowhere as heavy as the original Smatchet was designed, the original one was supposed to be able to crack a skull, but when they made it a machete they took away some of its power

Throw it
👍👍
