0:25 that's a triple tatami? I only ever attempted cutting a Double roll, and this went right through, with very little resistance. Obviously a good cutter, it's a Machete, that's what they do, but the arm shows remarkable skill in that demonstration. Those things are tougher than they look!
Psiberzerker Yup, I was also surprised since usually for a target that big, you need a long blade to generate the momentum and slicing motion. I mean like, if you’re gonna be trying a triple with a machete, it’s gotta be a 24” blade. But it looks like that was the 18” or 21” version.
excellent demo, Mr.Thomson you love blades and it shows!!! i never thought much about machetes, due to their thin spine....but your video is an eye opener. Please do a video regarding the 1849 Rifleman's knife....give us the historical background, your opinion regarding the effectiveness of this blade and please show us just what i can do....or can't...!!!!!
Currently I have two 18" inch Latin style machetes, they are just so good for the price. I also had the 21" one hand version plus the two hand version and 24" inch one hand version but I sold them. Now I have ordered a 21" inch version with a D-guard because I need a battle machete :D
Cult Of Malgus Yes, his strike was not well delivered. Play it at 0.25x speed and you’ll see how the machete strikes the target. Lynn himself has said it before, sometimes he messes up because he substitutes too much power for technique. But, what the hell. Their machetes are 1055 spring steel, so just bend that sucker back to the original alignment.
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh they need to make a mid-tier 1075 model. Something in the $50-$60 range that can compete with Condor without being quite as expensive.
Cult Of Malgus in my opinion a machete doesn’t have to be expensive to be good. It’s a sharp piece of properly treated carbon steel with a basic handle.
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh depends on your application, what you want out of it, what you expect out of it. For a regular garden, backyard, trail chopper, sure I agree. But in a survival scenario off the grid? I want a machete that can cover a wider variety of tasks including combat scenarios and extreme wilderness survival. For that I really want a slightly thicker 1075 blade over these thinner 1055's. That said I buy these cheaper CS machetes for training purposes mostly and simple back yard tasks. For cheap blade with more applications cold steel's GI Tanto is a great choice. I keep that and my Finn Bear in a Survival pack with medical supplies, fire starter, MRE snacks, water filter, etc.
Cult Of Malgus How thick do you mean? In my opinion, a machete shouldn’t exceed 3mm spine thickness (1/8”). I know these cold steel machetes are 2mm thick, if the blade is 24 inches long, that can feel floppy. Personally I have a custom made machete that had a 22.75” blade and is 3/32” (~2.5mm) thick at the spine. For the length it’s just about right, not too floppy that it twists and turns in powerful cuts and chops, and not to stiff that it has no flex or feels overly heavy.
Oh yeah. All the sword machetes they make that have some sort of hand guard have the full tang cutout in the shape of the guard. The Kopis Machete does too.
The Name Unless the tip is modified, meaning sharpened on purpose. It theoretically COULD be used to thrust. But fundamentally, no. The Latin Machete is meant for chopping or slicing (if it’s sharp enough). Machetes in general are not meant for thrusting, since they are tools, not swords.
Is it just me, or Lynn can't cut for shit and nobody ever tells him just cause he's the boss? I just binged the whole IRON PROOF MACHETES playlist, and there ain't a single strike where he goes all the way through in one swing, or one where he lands the blow where he means to.
LFPS0311 Yeah, that’s pretty much true. I like Cold Steel and I like Thompson. But good lord, that strike on the ballistic leg was awful. Way too much unnecessary power and horrible edge alignment. Shows how important technique is. If you slow it way down, you can see how the machete hit and literally twisted. Hell, I could’ve probably made it all the way through that thing in one swing.
Mark Stockford It is delivered that way do you can put your own edge on it, for what kind of work you will be doing with it. Also sharpening = time = money
Moth Nibbas Jason should have actually used a D-guard machete like this one. That way, Freddy wouldn’t have been able to slice his fingers off and take his machete lol
The machete line is mostly, not entirely, different kinds of swords made out of a specific kind of steel that is more appropriate for a machete than a sword. They still cut like the swords they are replicating they just arent as pretty.
@@MFM556 not as tough either tbh. Watch the vid again. He bent the damn blade, which is disheartening to say the least. But if you buy them using them as a trainer in place of a sword they tend to be heavier....meaning they can give you strong sword arms! In that context I love these things!
Because you want some paper-pusher designing weapons? Nothing shows competence like the boss of the company showing passion and expertise about its products.
Marian Iurea Not necessarily. His strike and edge alignment was horrible. Slow it down to 0.25x and you will see how twisted the cut was. Another thing, a spring tempered blade CAN take a set. even though it is spring tempered, it is only 2mm thick. It’s easy to see why it bent.
The Cold steel machette line is just kick ass. Love these things. Amazing blades for the price. Cheers 🍺
I love the videos where Lynn talks about the product.
1:18 *never doubt me Mr. Thompson. I never lose filipino machete battles*
💀
Impressive, I don't actually own a machete. I just wish that you provided them with a good edge out of the box. Like you do with your knives.
use accusharp sharpner for like 10 bucks

I'm getting one for Christmas 😃
Damn I miss seeing him...... So sad he sold out (but I'm happy for him if he got compensation for the awesome company he built).....

Shinobi Hiriyu - Original Ninja Love your vids! You should make some machete vids. I’d like to see the 24 in action. Must be a big boy.
I got one for my birthday two days before Christmas 🎈❤️❤️❤️
Nice video! Is this the 18" or 21" version, is not mentioned in the video?! Stay healty...regards from the Belgian Ardennes.
The blade looked like bent after he cut the ballistic gel 😅😅

If cold steel is shooting for that infomercial feel they freaking nailed it. I do like cold steel products but lynn needs to stay in his office

colt45 and2zigzags Yeah, because explaining the new style of marketing is totally getting triggered.
The guy's point is that Lynn is about as likeable a guy as Rosie O'Donnel after three minutes without her Prozac. The dude makes my skin crawl.

What edge angle did you guys sharpen the machete at? (What degree)?
DJHamburgla Depends on what you want to do. My Katana Machete is around 20-25 degrees.
@2:43 look real close the Blade is a bit Bent......this the 29 inch version i recommend the 26 or 23 inch......the 29 inch is much to long and flimsy
Which one is that? (length)
JAY LEE Looks like the one Lynn is using is the 21” blade version.
Why didn't Lynn mention that
Oh shit if you look you can see the machete bent
@2:43 blade is bent out of shape interestingly ...could be from other tests
