@@claytonsautodetailing8070 I kind of went a similar route, I started on a R6 but knew immediately that it had too much power for me as a beginner so I searched around and found out about the naked SV650 that I have now as a daily rider. Its a perfect street bike for me, has very smooth power, definitely not as much as my R6 but that’s okay with me, the seating position is a little better for me, it handles great around tight corners and I’m still able to pop it up in first second and even third 🤙🏽
I own a 600cc supersport and it's definitely not as streetable as my old ninja 400, if I could do it again I'd probably rather go rs660 as my second bike

It had show room lights giving it the "heaven light" look. I didnt look at any other bike. Absolutely love it. Bought it at 900 miles and currently at 16k. 5:00 DEFINETELY SMOOTH! Went from a 22 MT-09 to a 22 ZX6R and I can tell, the MT09 is a bike that hates you with all of it's soul, you get on the throttle and the bike tries to kill you right away. While the ZX6R likes being ridden, you get on the throttle and she goes like "Alright my boy, let's yeet into the sun together", and the twisties... Oh this bike feels so good at the side of the tire!
I’m 32 years old, 220 pounds, 6.1 tall, and I own a 2019 ZX6R with 3K miles on it now. I love it. Sooo amazing! Very comfortable. It’s a SCREAMER!!! Also, my 2019 Ninja ZX6R has Bridgestone S22’s from the factory which is a very respectable tire. The S22 is solid for sure, easily comparable to the Pirelli Rosso IV’s.
I am 50 y.o., I ride zx6r on a daily basis, and I am in love with this bike. During the week my rides are quite short, and on weekends, I ride 150-200 mile. True, I would not join a whole day trip with this bike.
I turned my old less ridden 636 track bike into a street fighter. Tore off all the plastics, rebuilt the brakes and suspension, tuned the engine, 3.29 gearing, sticky SC-1's and threw on some Renthal MX bars and OMG it is stupid fun on the street - thing friggin rips on my daily commute, weekends and still holds it own on the track. Seriously, I feel genuine love for this bike.
@@AP-wu1rv I’d recommend taking a msf course. Learn the basics and take it from there. Could always get a zx6r and put it in low power mode and baby it until you get comfortable. But having no experience, I’d play it save and start on something smaller
I use my KTM 690R as a daily rider and it serves that role very well. If I want some superbike time, it's the 1000RR, and even if Yammie doesn't like them, I do. I'm old and I'm spry. I may be the fastest old guy in this town.
Someone stole my 2015 s1000rr, but all I can say is...I'm 6'2 ish and not comfortable on much, my roommates sportster is just too low (seatwise) for me, r1s have too low tank and bars, but the s1000 had it all. I can lean my ab/lower chest area on the rear of the tank, turn the heater grips on, and get 40+ mpg cruising at 80. My back doesn't hurt, neither do my wrists. We can argue about hondas or kawis being better "reliability" wise, but the bmw was the longevity bike for me. Would've ridden one the rest of my life. Just don't have money for another one.
As an owner of a RE Int650, I think the performance disparity between my bike and this one really demonstrates how engine displacement isn't everything.
Every day when I drive my xsr900 I feel bad for you guys on your int650's lol. There's a guy in my subdivision who has an int650 and I can't ever help but think about how massively slow that motorcycle is... and hope that guy is going to be ok and hope he's not missing out cause my bike feels a bit slow to me most days on my way to work and I just can't imagine having any less power.
I love my 2014 white zx6r. Have it for nearly 3yrs now. I even got wheels powder coated green, got custom plate with my name... loving it. I ride to work 3,4 days a week...ride with mates maybe couple of times a month. All Gs
i always tell people you have to actually learn how to ride a 600. you have to figure out the bike and where the power is, but when you do and youre a good rider, 600s are sooooo much fun
Rode a 600 for the first time a few months ago. A buddy let me ride his R6 on the tail of the dragon. Can confirm, it was a ton of fun. Just way too cramped for me so I'll stick with my Busa for now.
I took a motorcycle course and I bought a ZX6R 2021. My first bike . I love it ! But i don’t recommend it if you freak out easily don’t have confidence. 👌🏽
Im thinking about getting one as my first bike if I have the opportunity but I'd keep it in the low power mode for a few months before I get used to it, is this a good idea?
@@Echuwe get a used smaller cc bike for cheap ride it around and learn the fundamentals for a year..... You will be far less likely to mess up yourself or your 636 if you have a solid foundation of skills. I cannot tell you how many people say they started on a 600 or liter and "survived" but almost all legitimately suck when the turns come up...
@@Echuwe Start small, it's much easier to learn to turn proper on a 250cc bike then a 600. It's also more forgiving if you hit the throttle a bit to hard when exiting a turn. Power modes do have a purpose (wet, snowy conditions etc), but nothing is substitute for ~150 pounds less on a bike.
@@Echuwe No. I started on a 2021 ninja 400 and I can’t tell you how happy I am with how light it is. I’ve come close to dropping it a couple of times but it’s so light that it’s easy to recover (about 360-365lbs after slip on exhaust swap). If I had started on heavier I’d for sure have dropped it at least once. The ninja 400 feels it has adequate power kind of like a Miata of motorcycles.
I am almost 50 and did 201 miles on this bike last Sunday. yea.a bit punishing but was eager to do it again. I enjoyed it immensely but took me time to find the power as you say.
I had a 2013 ZX-6R and it still had the power mode and traction control electronics. I absolutely loved the styling on that generation as well. The 13-18 look so aggressive and dragon like. I feel like whoever designed the new and current 400, ZX-6R and ZX-10Rs took a huge step backwards. I did end up buying a 2021 ZX-6R after not having one for years and I still love it to death but man the front of it is just lacking. I can't stand the way the headlights and nose look at all but love everything else.
👏 thank 👏 you! I feel the same way And I’m pissed because they don’t even have that kawi green in the 2022 one!!! The options are a midnight blue and white Wtf I’m looking at getting a zx-6 in that range in the next year Going from a 400 I know it’s going to be a major upgrade in power but I’ve gotten frustrated at how long it takes me to get to triple digits. Omg…. I’m so excited
@@heartworkbykitty7933 yeah, they kept the green for the slightly more expensive KRT editions. I do like the color of mine. I went with the teal one. It's very unique and it stands out. 09 Zx6r here. Honestly can't really fault it. Was considerably cheaper than the competition and less than half the price to insure. Great bikes that's for sure.
I’ve just gotten my first bike about 2 months ago, a ninja 300. Although it’s quicker than many people give it credit for I can already tell that I’m gonna want some more power. Might have to go with this zx6r.. it looks sweet af

I completely get "committing to the supersport lifestyle". Between 18 and 26 that's all I had. It was definitely a sacrifice in some ways. At 31, I'm pretty content on my mt-09.
@@hellraiserrec19 that was my exact mindset when I switched. When I was younger I was fine with the comfort of a supersport (or lack thereof). At 31, I wanted something more comfortable with hardly any sacrifices. The mt09 is great because it's stupid comfortable, and the only thing you're really sacrificing is 150+ mph interstate pulls. It still handles great and has plenty of power.
@@jasonmendonca6061 Depends on how old you want, I'm looking at an R6 (2003 fuel injected) and asking price is $1800, or not that far is a GSX-R (1996 so carbureted, but its absolutely mint and just recently serviced) for a whopping $800... Now personally the thought of 4 carburetors makes me want to scream and jump off the roof, but at that price I could roll it out to the dumpster. I'm really looking for a GSX-R 1000 like a K5 (2005 year model), but then its asking a bit around $3000-3500, which is steep, but its not terrible either. Biggest issue I have is most of those are modded more than I'd like (power commander fine, exhaust great, that 12" stretch though or lowering it just kills all that engineering into stiffness and cornering, like WHY!?!?).
@@jakegarrett8109 yeah, it really depends on the year. Something like this 2016 here, better off buying brand new with the current prices.. We'll watch all the maintenance Yammi does to things thing, plus add the quick shifter which is standard on 2019+ and he already said it doesn't have a fuel gauge with a new on does, etc. But you can't beat those mid 2000s bikes, even though they are getting slightly more expensive. I was planning on buy an 05-06 zx-6r, since I've always wanted one. But I see a lot with failed second gears now, and they price are going up, so I've decided I'm going to use the money for a down payment on a '22 now. And yes, I still want a carbureted zx7. There's a place for everything
TC and Powermodes came in 2013. it has been the same bike 2013 to 18. 2019 is essentially the same bike with an updated look. The forks are Balance Free Forks and AFAIK the first Supersport to get them. The throttle still uses a cable. The fuel cut causes the jerkiness during throttle transitions and overall the fuel curve really needs a lot of work. Enjoy the bike.
To turn traction off, hold traction button down when on 3. I have this exact bike. Im 23, 5.8 ft, I daily this 50 miles to work daily. I love this bike
ZX6R (636) stock has just as much torque in the same places as the R7, it just revs out faster and has twice the HP,(up top) rides just the same around town. Cost is comparable but you get a real SS chassis.
@@hellraiserrec19 depends on who yo go through. I use State Farm, and they dont go by the type of bike they go off displacement, so a liter bike is cheaper than a larger cruiser. Before that I had USAA and Progressive, and their rates were insane.
@@jakeford2324 I guess it depends on where you live. I paid 45 a month for a harley electra glide and now its 185 a month for a zx6r. I live just outside new orleans though. Insurance is high as giraff nuts. Thats will full coverage and a clean record
I agree with you on the engine brake. It is a bit excessive. You just can't let go of the throttle without feeling like your gonna come to a stop. My 1993 Gsxr was waay different in the respect that you could let go of the throttle and still cruise and basically roll as far as you would like to while off of the throttle.
I've been riding my 06 636 everyday for the last 6 years it's honestly not that bad I'm 5'11 and I don't have to be all the way tucked forward to have my hands on the handle bars I can ride it being somewhat up right when just casually riding it. I did ride the new 21 636 on a demo day and yea the newer ones are more aggressive in the riding position. Nice to know my 06 still keeps up with newer specs and no nannies gettin in the way and u don't need quick shift I'm not use to riding with that and when I rode the new 636 with quick shift I'd easily argue you don't need it the clutch isn't too much work to use and don't tell urselft it is . Personally I wouldn't want a bike with quick shift
Clutch is way slower in acceleration, but I'm not sure why anyone uses a clutch except first gear anyways... Motorcycle transmissions are designed to not use the clutch except take off. Even transmissions NOT designed for clutchless you can often still do like a few times in my car yesterday, its definitely not designed for it but it worked fine. Craziest example I've often shifted without clutch on a slightly modified lawn mower with 3 speeds at 5 or 8 mph - 25 mph -40 mph limits, which you'll note is like a 4 to 5x gear ratio jump from first to second gear, and that I managed to do clutchless shifting and obviously its not made for that (NOT a shift on the go style, closer to antique tractor style, also note this was on a 40 year old mower trans, so no recent features), nor was it really designed for over 2 mph but worked fine anyways. Motorcycles though are designed for clutchless, and have gears engaged all the time, so all you're doing is moving a pusher which locks a ball into certain gears on a shaft, and all the gears engaging them, its not like the lawn mower transmission where the gears slam teeth into each other and failing to shift correctly results in a horrible grinding sound like most car transmissions.
@@jakegarrett8109 Motorcycles arent specifically designed for clutchless, they just can do it. If you arent shifting just right you still can be damaging the gearbox just because you cant hear it doesnt mean its not happening.
@@MLDRBRY They really are though by design, its usually just not fully automated (unless you have quick shifters blip throttle for you) or paddle shifters (really just automatic transmissions with manual electronic shifting), but they are sequential constant meshing gearboxes, so they really are an ideal transmission for clutchless because the gears are always engaged to each other. Yes you can screw them up if you purposely do everything possibly wrong, but even if you still just get up and stomp on the downshifts without throttle input its still going to handle a surprising amount of abuse for several years doing it wrong (usually). You should still try to let off the throttle for upshifts (I didn't, busted the frame mounts from the jerking so I had to fabricate heavier frame because I'd slam gears WOT in my youth with much too little care), and you should try to throttle blip for downshifts, BUT because it is really designed for clutchless shifts by basis of its brilliant always meshing teeth design, you have to repeatedly abuse them to the extreme to usually have any problems.
@mr Tree, I agree with you. Call me old school (I've only been riding for about 10 years though), but I don't see the real need for a quick shifter. I can have one installed on my '19 Ninja 1000 for pretty cheap, but I have no desire for it. I consider using the clutch, throttle, and gear shifter in symphony an integral part of riding a motorcycle. I would rather improve my skill in doing that while riding than relying on a quick shifter to do it for me.
Riding position is LITERALLY the SAME from 13'-22'. It's literally the SAME bike with updated bodywork, quickshifter and new gauge cluster and -1 up front.
Don’t bash me but I just got a 2005 zx6r for my first bike and I fully understand why they say start on something smaller. If anyone is reading this wanting a first bike. Just trust the process because just one mistake can cost you a lot. On a slower bike you have more time to correct yourself but on a 600cc you can just barely touch the throttle and you can go flying but I have hella dirtbike experience but it’s still different riding a 600cc alot heavier and turning feels different
Nice video! The ZX-6R is just insane🤩 I have the 2015 model with full Akra exhaust and Power Commander V. Love the midrange! Have owned both R6 and CBR600RR and they're tame in comparison. An actual real-life usable engine in awesome clothing😎
so do you suggest between those three for a beginner in 600 class looking for a usable torque at your disposal in the city when low-mid rpms to go with the Kawa? thanks
@@BEFORETHEMHYPEBEASTS Not knowing what bikes you have ridden before or your skill level, I would not recommend any of those 3 to a true beginner rider. With that said, for every day riding, commuting around town the ZX-6R is my obvious choice🙂 Much better torque when you need it and actually fairly comfortable for my length 181 cm👍 Always gripping the tank firmly with my legs I never have any problems with aching wrists, it all about technique. @@BEFORETHEMHYPEBEASTS the kawasaki also has a low power mode which only gives about 65% power. You could start there and put it in full when you are ready

@@elijahcreel1709 I'm also vertically challenged, they aren't as pretty has the Ninja zx6r but look at the suzuki gsxr 600/750 when you are ready to upgrade. The seat height is the lowest in the class at 31.9" tall and is narrow at the front.
@@elijahcreel1709 My first bike was a Ninja 400. ZX has more aggressive ergos and I am on my tip toes but manage it fine. I would say if you’re considering the ZX then be absolutely confident on a 400 before you upgrade
@@elijahcreel1709 You’re not going to be able to flat foot it and have to be okay with that. IMO it’s about confidence in yourself opposed to height. I just recently purchased a 13' zx6r coming from a 14' street triple 675r and while it is definitely uncomfortable in comparison everything else outshines. Definitely wanna knockout maintenance items and try a track day some time next year
Got to ride this at ims and it was an incredible bike but terrifying (new rider) definitely learned to respect it for what it is and that I definitely am glad im not gonna start on one for sure(dont have a motorcycle yet getting one later this year) but I will say it was a blast but definitely deserves to be respected i also noticed while it was awesome to ride my back was killing me after I got off the bike

@@dblv I actually sold the zx6r a few months ago. I really don't think there is a way to make the ergos tolerable for multi day trips, the bike is just too purpose focused. I'm currently riding a Z1000 and i'm much happier now, gonna do a 5000km trip in a few months.
@@dblv When choosing a bike, its not always about the most rational choice. There is a passion factor involved. If you want to have a supersport, go for it! My friend is going with me in this trip and he owns a ZX10R. Of course is not going to be the most confortable bike, but he loves it and wouldn't choose other bike.
What I notice many TH-camrs say, about naked being less comfortable on the highways it's a matter of getting used to. Do it on a nice long ride, and you're used to it. Ergonomically seen they're more comfortable also, and if you want some more wind protection you can add a windshield afcourse, for me not ridden highways yet, I can't imagine it being that "bad" people say it is. ZX6R sounds and runs good as it seems tho! Nice to see and hear more 4 cylinder love.
I’ve owned a few bikes, went from a 2015 gsxr600 to a 2016 fz09, man did I love that fz, it’s like freestyle type riding, that bike was crazy nimble and the torque was ridiculously amazing, but it was just horrible on the highway, i do a lot of highway rides so I had to get rid of her and get a 19 zx6r, but man that fz09 will always have a spot in my heart. Nasty machine
get heli bars for this makes the comfort waaaaaaaaayyyy better and does not compromise the supersport handing and feel much at all great for the street.
I own a 2016 Zx6r and I love it. I think it’s part of the fun it that it’s so tame around town then just bonkers high up in the revs. Pure twisties / track bike though. Can’t believe how many people are saying it’s so comfortable for commuting…. that is just a lie. You put up with it’s downfalls because it’s a damn sexy bike. A BMW GS, Honda VFR, any scooter etc are comfortable commuters, not this!
I agree. I just bought a '23 ZX6R and while I haven't even begun to tap the power available, the bike has a very aggressive riding position causing me to have a hurt back and hurt neck in no time. But the bike is so damn fun to ride you just kinda accept the good with the bad.
Happy that you're reviewing this bike!! Small comments though: Throttle is not ride by wire on this model You can turn of tc by changing the tc mode 3 times, but only while stopped You seem to have an issue given that orange light on the ktrc, maybe a faulty sensor?
I used to watch this dude back in 2014-2015 when I had ZX6 and he stopped posting because he ate shit hard on a Daytona. Actually I'm surprised he still rides.
I have the 2022 version of this bike I swear it drives like a Cadillac I’ve hit so many bumps it’s so smooth maybe it’s set up different but it comes set very soft and it’s very comfortable the hunching over is not so comfortable but you can prop yourself up right when you’re just cruising
This is exactly the second bike i more than likely will be buying as a daily commute. Didnt think about the comfort til now. I got a sv650 and love it but on the freeways it can be a pain in the neck literally lol

You might like the Honda offering more. It's way lighter which helps with the 36 less ccs, and way more comfortable. Doesn't have the same problems as the R6. The new one is heavier than the old one due to Euro emissions. Comes stock with electronic steering damper. No quickshifter though if that's your thing.
I'm 55...ride '16 zx6r and light it up...get left behind by litre bike Klan on straights and school em getting twisted hangin off lol. Don't listen to age hinderance. Geared down in front plenty of torque on street.
I love my 636 but im gonna be 28 this year and my back and neck issues are clearly telling me its a no go. Full exhaust with a power commander sounds so dang good but I guess age caught up with me. MT-10 is where I'm likely headed, I will miss the wheelies if anything.

I have a 2014 with an aftermarket quick shifter. I commute to work and honestly find it fairly comfortable. Enough torque and when you open it up 🚀
exactly and you can also have fun on the interstate/highways with 600s as opposed to these new dumbed down "sportbikes" like the r7
How tall are you?
Which quick shifter do you have? I have a 2013 and I'm looking for one lol
you don't need a quick shifter on this bike, just push your feet up on the gear shifter and blib the throttle, it practically does the same thing :)

AMEN!! JUST GOT MY 2021 KRT 636 HANDS DOWN A BEAST!!!!! Very usable power band for the streets 👌
The hunched over, clip on lifestyle is the only way to go for me.
Don’t bash me but I just got a 2005 zx6r for my first bike and I fully understand why they say start on something smaller. If anyone is reading this wanting a first bike. Just trust the process because just one mistake can cost you a lot. I have the 2022 version of this bike I swear it drives like a Cadillac I’ve hit so many bumps it’s so smooth maybe it’s set up different but it comes set very soft and it’s very comfortable the hunching over is not so comfortable but you can prop yourself up right when you’re just cruising
Fun toy, but you said it well--most people would prefer a more comfortable ride with more power.
He never said that.
More power? Most people want MORE than a 636?? You do realize this bike will do 0-60 in 3.17 seconds, right?
My lord I can't wait for the track day review!
Its not an electronic throttle. It is a cable actuated system, but its amazing.
I want one of these! Just not as my only bike.
This is exactly the second bike i more than likely will be buying as a daily commute. Didnt think about the comfort til now. I got a sv650 and love it but on the freeways it can be a pain in the neck literally lol
Man that's the only generation of the 636 that I like 😍
Fuel light is a luxury, no such thing on my 1998 G1 ZX6R :D
Carbys 4 life!
my 2006 zzr600 just sits in my garage gonna make it a track bike one day
If you wernt such a kawi hater you would of realized 10 years ago this bike is the best on the market for the cost
Great content! Can't wait to see you take it on track.
I have a 2013 zx6r with Diablo Rossi 3 , two brothers slip on with an ecu flash to match the slip on, a quick turn throttle and suspension tuned for twisties like lime creek and I absolutely love it. I went from a 400 and it has definitely help me grow and also humbled me . Would be cool to run with you some time , I’m Austin bound too
Lemme know when you’re in Austin bud, just got my zx6r I live out here
Im about to pick this bike up as my first motorcycle tomorrow... i figure if im going to learn im going to learn the right way. Wish Me Luck
How did it go bud ?
You might like the Honda offering more. It's way lighter which helps with the 36 less ccs, and way more comfortable. Doesn't have the same problems as the R6. The new one is heavier than the old one due to Euro emissions. Comes stock with electronic steering damper. No quickshifter though if that's your thing.
Yammie awesome channel, keep going!! :) I want to ask you what are the advantages of the sports bike riding position over the standard one?
Better aerodynamics, you feel less drag at higher speeds
@@mohammadnashitsiddiqui2168 I think probably more stability at higher speeds as well :)
@@stefanopenrhyn1677 yes both for the bike and the rider
I'm 55...ride '16 zx6r and light it up...get left behind by litre bike Klan on straights and school em getting twisted hangin off lol. Don't listen to age hinderance. Geared down in front plenty of torque on street.
Be safe out there Yam Fam! Blessings!
I love my 636 but im gonna be 28 this year and my back and neck issues are clearly telling me its a no go. Full exhaust with a power commander sounds so dang good but I guess age caught up with me. MT-10 is where I'm likely headed, I will miss the wheelies if anything.
Mate you re in your prime...I am 30 and going for a new Zx6r ...
I drive a 02 ex500r love it been riding it for 6 years. 636 dream bike at the moment lol
