    Got a ticket yesterday for "changing lanes too fast". Not for passing other cars recklessly, not for not using my turn signals. But for changing lanes too quickly...in an area where cars are merging into my lane. Just one of those times where it becomes abundantly clear they're banking on you not having the M1 endorsement to meet quota.

    Best advice I can give as a rider with 40 years experience.
    Do Not Ride In Groups.
    That's it. Groups are bad news. Things will happen. You will do things you wouldn't normally do. You will discover that THAT guy who you thought was super skilled and super cool is actually an idiot who's been getting lucky more than getting skills. Be super careful, as 'group' rides sometimes just happen. Know when to step back and make a big boy decision.

    • @ChadrikThunderCaulk
      @ChadrikThunderCaulk หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I did 30k miles last year, most in a group setting. Groups are fine, just a different style of riding. What's important is riding with a group that gives a shit about being safe.
      The overwhelming majority Iof people have I have known who have died in motorcycle accidents, were late night single accidents due to speed.

    • @MrRodwatson
      @MrRodwatson หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@ChadrikThunderCaulk I see your point and I believe your point is valid. However, I also believe you are in the minority. I think a lot of guys think they ride in a good group. And I'm certain a lot of them do. However, every group suffers when a new 'to the group' rider joins them. That's when even an experienced group can have problems. Look…we are riding motorcycles….I am not going to preach SAFETY-SAFETY-SAFETY🙄, I think we have all grown accustomed to rolling our eyes at that BS. To each their own. I avoid groups…however, even I will break this 'rule' every so often. New riders? Do Not Ride In a Group. I stand by that 100%. Stay safe Chadrik👍

    here's one: action cameras mounted on the helmet or facing the rider. Police will do an insurance check since they assume that if you have cameras mounted this way you're vlogging for youtube. Why do they do an insurance check? Because vlogging is deemed a commercial activity, and commercial activity IS NOT covered in normal SD&P policies. If you get pulled with a cam on and you let slip that you're recording for youtube you stand to have your bike SEIZED. Because you don't have commercial cover.

    • @scubarubanzaii

      You can also not mention anything to do with commercial activity and just say you’re keeping the recordings for personal safety and documentation. I was asked by an officer once and I told him my Ace Pro was effectively mostly a dash cam fill-in and he actually agreed with the usage.

    3:27 It really doesn't matter what you were doing before hand, if you stop, the cops WILL pull you over and assume you're guilty. You could've been completely legal and safe the entire time. It could even have been a group that you just happened to bump into and rode along with for a few minutes. In a cop's mind, all bikers know and are buddies with each other.
    There's an infamous video where a guy stopped at a red light while everyone else around him blew it, and the cops pulled HIM over. I'm pretty sure most of us have seen it. This isn't rare, I've seen it happen too often. I even saw a guy get pulled over for the actions of the squids that were riding nearly a quarter mile ahead of him
    Tldr: Careful who you ride with, because the cops sure as shit won't care

    • @VBMichael_D
      @VBMichael_D หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's why most riders have an equal indifference to cops. If that mindset wasn't prevalent, we wouldn't see so many videos of riders trolling and running from the cops.

      tbh this would be the perfect situation to be in. you could not only very easily get the charge dropped but possibly sue for the officers actions against you for other people's choices. if you weren't doing anything wrong at all and they ticket you for someone else you will have an extremely easy case to sue the department.

    In Michigan you can ride without a helmet, but to do so you are required to carry an extra $40,000 in medical insurance for you and every separate individual that will ride with you. From talking to the Harley bros around here, most of them have no idea about that, they just heard "helmets no longer required" and stopped wearing them. Thing is that if you're in an accident, at the very least you now have a $40,000 deductible before your normal health insurance will kick in, and it's possible your liability and/or full coverage will deny coverage as well since you were "riding while not carrying legally required insurance."

    In '86 I was riding in a fairly large city, and was following all traffic laws. Came off the interstate, double clutched and blipped the throttle as I came to a stop at the light, and one of the Boys in Blue, who was sitting to my right at the intersection, pops his lights and motions me to the side of the road. I was mystified, but of course complied. The cop saunters up while I turn the bike off, keeping my hands where he can see them. He of course asks to see my license, and then says, "Oh you DO have a motorcycle certification." I reply in the affirmative, inquiring as to why I was pulled over. He says, "I've never seen an SRX6 up close, and it sounds so sweet, I decided to pull you over and check it out." Then he laughed, gave me back my documents, and told me to ride safely. Always get your certification.

I passed a long line of cars one time, because the front car was only doing 35 in a 55 zone thru a few miles of no passing zone. Now back then I was riding my 1976 H-D Superguide FXE, Well when we approached a passing zone and no one was going to pass the car, I let the old shovel head have all the throttle I passed all 14 or so cars and trucks. when I passed the slow car and just made it in time for the no passing zone but I was in my limits. So I'm cursing up the road pretty good now about 55 - 60. Next thing I know is a state trooper is pulling me over, The trooper was saying I exceeded the passing limitations of the passing zone. I said I'm sorry Sir but I cut back in with two lines left, He said it didn't look that way to me. I told him I guess not you were 6 cars back in the traffic and there was no way your could have seen exactly where I cut back in at. When the trooper came back from his car, he handed me a warning ticket. Wow what a relief that was. The funny thing is , the cop was in a unmarked car, and I had no idea he was in the traffic or 6 cars back.

Because I was able to clear the warrant and have the case dismissed in Indiana, the judge saw fit to reduce my ticket down to 80 in a 55. That meant no suspended license, 4 hours in traffic school cleared my points, and it cost me $215. I know most of the local police now, and the ones who ride watch my channel. One of the first life lessons any driver should get down solid. The words "Angry" and "officer" NEVER mix in the citizens favor. Sitting on the side of the road, with a squad car parked in back of you, the two biggest threats you have, are your own mouth, and your attitude. We ALL make mistakes. And, we all get caught doing them. Personally, I have walked away unscathed, for stupid mistakes that I fully deserved to be hammered for, simply by being honest, and respectful. He or she is only trying to do the most aggravating, thankless job in America. Getting them angry, is only going to cost you in the short term, and the long run.

I also don't get to enjoy remote start because I buy manual cars and trucks, and I don't get to enjoy 20+ inch wheels because I like ride quality and I can't be bothered to baby my vehicles around potholes.

I managed to pull onto the wrong side of the road and was unable to get over as there was a concrete wall. Rode another 10 feet and there was a red light for the direction I was travelling. Pulled a right hand turn as soon as the crossing traffic allowed to get myself back on the correct side of the road but was lit up immediately. Pulled off into a side street took my helmet off and turned the bike off while the officer was still getting out of his car. Explained I’m an idiot that got lost. At the very least it's an invite to be stopped and asked some interesting questions.

    3 years road riding here on 4 different bikes. About 50k miles in total. So far as I can tell the cops basically ignore Baggers, classic cruisers and ADV bikes entirely unless they are doing something really stupid and outrageously dangerous. They don't even look at me wearing dad leathers riding my Vulcan. Similar for my "safety dad" reflective gear. It more or less makes you "invisible to cops"... they see you still but you don't trigger their "douche-o-meter" so they ignore you.
    Sport bikes give them the "ick" though... straight up... and the more "sport bike guy" you look, the more it seems you trigger their "douche-o-meter". A hot bike with a loud exhaust and wearing a track suit and race boots, etc. will get their hackles up. Same with squid stuff like shorts and flip flops or your girl friend on the back with no gear. Their hackles go up immediately when they see bare girlie legs on your sport bike because now you are making bad decisions for 2 people not just 1.
    Bottom line... the stealthier you look and act and the stealthier your bike looks and sounds... the more hooligan stuff you can get away with.
    Choose when to hooligan wisely friends! Ride safe!

    I last got a ticket in 1973 on a 68 bsa441 Victor. And i ride a LOT. But i have always been really cautious, stay within a reasonable distance of the speed limit and don't stunt. Everywhere i have lived has been a "no helmet"state so no problem there. But! If you are within 5-10mph of the speed limit, wear a helmet and aren't being a jerk on the bike. Ie: just being a part of traffic, you are covered with what i call a "SEP" field. (Some body else's problem) of course i also don't ride a bike that looks like a Superbike that escaped from a road race somewhere. General rule, if you cut your mufflers off and put "go faster stripes" on something.. police notice. Too. Not just the cute honeys on street corners.
    After all that's what you want, right? Attention? Don't complain if it isn't the kind you want.

    in our country you're required to wear a helmet but any helmet would do as long as it's not a full on bike helmet. I you're by yourself you can do away with a nutshell type helmet. but if you have a pillion rider you are required to wear a half face helmet while your pillion rider is required to wear at least a nutshell. Most traffic enforcers don't really care. you can just put a carboard box on your head and they will probably ignore you unless you do something dumb.

    My state has a law that allows bikes to actually run red lights if the light doesn't change for over 120 seconds and it's safe for them to proceed. I never thought I'd have to use it till one day I went to visit my mom on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere. I'm the only vehicle that comes to a red light and wait 5 minutes despite knowing that law just cuz I wanted to see if it WOULD change to green. It didn't, so I said " Fuck it, the law lets me do this, and if a cop sees me and stops me I got a camera on my helmet to prove I did it legally"

      Most light sensors won't pick up a bike. A vehicle behind you may be too far back to trigger the sensor. Without oncoming traffic, you could be sitting there for quite a while. My state has a similar law. Come to a complete stop, give it sufficient time, make sure it's clear, and go. You'll get to watch the light change as the vehicle behind you moves up to the sensor.

    I've had my licens suspended three times for speeding. It's always been on a relatively safe road, but I've always been going over 100kph in like a 60 zone or something, so it's just on the spot suspensions doesn't matter about demerit points. The worst thing was though after the third time I had no points left so I got my licence back but then got a letter saying it was being suspended again because I had no points left so it's technically been 4 suspensions in 5 years. I don't even speed regularly or in places most people would deem reckless. NSW police are just sneaky, and I have bad luck, I guess.

    Got pulled over with a modded exhaust on a metric cruiser quite a few years back. Cop apparently had his wife run off with a biker because my exhaust was legal (baffles installed). He gave me "what for" and I did what I shouldn't...I argued right on the side of the highway. Gave me a warning after I told him we could argue more in traffic court because I was going to fight it. He got fired for harassment a few months later when he did the same thing to a group of out-of-town lawyers.
