Maybe …….we should NEVER give anyone a break for their bad behavior. It does not seem to bode well. And when there is an emptiness inside……it cannot be filled, even when you are the richest man in the word. You might want to look at it this way, those who are trying to be the biggest, the richest, the most powerful, etc……. it is all built on that emptiness inside, they know that they don’t deserve anything that they have and have to constantly beat their chests in public……he is DANGEROUS
Great interview. I don't know if I ever heard Kara Swisher's podcast. Will have to check it out. Like you, I love listening to podcasts. NO TALKING POINTS. I hate talking points.
i dont understand how people talk about spacex like elon is the only one there doing all the smart stuff. what has he actually done, other than be rich and well connected.
great interview! i really love this channel, and y'all are 100% right about the need for long form discussions. i see well meaning people on the 24 hour news channels try to pull it off but they can't because of the format. which is hilariously ironic since on the vast majority of days the 24hour news cycle is packed to the brim with tedious and repetitive filler content. the would needs more deep dives right now.
When I heard "Rapid, unscheduled disassembly" and saw the accompanying video, all, my brain could see, was Wile E. Coyote accidentally blowing himself up with his Acme bombs with a bunch of "KA-BOOM!!!!"s all around him.
Great interview. Kara is very impressive! BTW. One of my favorite "crossover" media hosts is Nicolle Wallace of MSNBC. She has conservative bona fides being W. Bush's Communications Director.
"Rockets are not like media. Media is hard." Apparently the expression 'rocket scientist' has lost all meaning. (Says a scientist who worked to build a Mach 300 jet). Buidling a rocket is not easy. Once upon a time, 'technology' involved making real things.
@@DamienPalmer And preventing war in the former Soviet Union is just common sense, geography and applied psychology. My point is really that she is elevating her subject matter to 'difficulty' while she, and you, are relegating rocketry to 'just engineering'. In my case, the jet did not involve rocketry at all. It was applied fluid dynamics that lead to quantum condensation in the jet expansion. By the time that the jet reached Mach 300, the temperature was so low that the helium began to condense. So it was not even primarily an engineering problem, it was a exploration of quantum mechanics for basic physics.
When talking about the dangers of AI it is easy but unhelpful to go straight to jokes about Skynet. It will not go down like that because, for all AI can do, it still cannot make value judgements or deploy common sense. It cannot and will not act with intent. The real danger of AI is that people stop thinking for themselves, that they defer their judgements to whatever an algorithm says because it is easier or cheaper to do so, and that the AI is actually no better or worse than any other human invention. The problem is us, not it, and what we are willing to give up to it based on the false promise that it knows better than we do about what is good for us.
Monica Lewinsky . “She was a kid.” She as 22. And she could make sexual decisions? But now we accept that a 10yo can make a decision about about gender which is a decision about sex. Ridiculous. Stop infantilizing Monica.
Elon reminds me of Howard Hughes. Very rich, Made planes, military planes, big, big planes got lots of attention. Went to Hollywood and made movies got lots of attention. Went crazy, got paranoid, hired boy gaurd teams, germophobe, lived in a Las Vegas hotel, grew his hair and nails out and went into deep hiding.

Elon is on the spectrum. He's socially inept. He really doesn't know any better. In a way, he's very much like a child. At times, his behavior is very inappropriate.
I love Kara Swisher but I wish she wouldn't repeat Musk's "reimaging" of his past. According to his classmates Musk was the bully and someone decided to introduce Musk to a dose of karma.
Since Mr M*****k purchased Twitter and worked madly to destroy a real creation by talented people I have to understand him as 'upper management' where creative thinking is not required, not even competence. The people in the trenches at SpaceX make things happen, correctly in spite of 'upper management'.
It annoys me, that I cant think of the name right now, who resently on this very podcast gave him the name, I will forever be calling him. Elon Muskrat.
If that were true, the pad would have been built to be reused. It was utterly destroyed. They were making a bet on a successful launch to orbit to get more NASA contracts. It's very much in doubt that happens now. The whole complex will need to be rebuilt. And if fails to reach orbit again, the project is certainly dead.

From England: thankyou, that was excellent. It's a pity we didn't get to see Murdoch dying in the witness box
Excellent conversation. I would think Elon has gone insane like many of the phenomenal geniuses before him.

Right, it’s called hiring smart engineers.

My 23 year old daughter doesn't use social media and she thinks the non issues the GOP raises are bs
The blue check was put into play as a consequence of a $13 Billion LBO overhead.

She never said it was easy, but it's sure not media. Rocketry is just an engineering problem.

@@shishkabobby I stand by my overall assessment. Source: I am an engineer.
Wow. I’ve never heard of Ms Swisher before, and that’s a failing. An impressive person.
Great discussion!!
I’m not a fan. He seems to be socially and emotionally very weird and unhealthy
NO, they can't do it again. There's a huge crater under the pad. Shrapnel was thrown everywhere.
Toxic garbage over Native Land. 😢From London, I'm sorry for poor people on ground and their land.
Put Elon in the pilot seat next launch.
I'd pay 8 bucks a month to see that.
Fox is news to the same extent that the WWE is wrestling.

She actually told some friends that she was going to seduce Clinton. Her mother was her role model.

AI not caring, is the scariest thing. It won’t think twice about annihilation of the human species. What a benign statement to make

Falcon is a good rocket. Designed by a guy who left the company in 2020. Starship is Elon's clown show.

Saturn v did not.

Very engrossing throughout.
I'm no fan of Musk, but the SpzceX team did a great job today. Starship's early flights are supposed to "fail". It's called iterative design.
What a great job at only a cost of 3 billion for taxpayers. Who do you think is funding this shit?
