Every Classic Car Owners Worst Nightmare! Restoring Torn And Stretched Sheet Metal

  • Hey, today we are fixing another 47-54 chevy rear fender. This one has suffered an unfortunate encounter with the normally docile Saskatchewan Wildebeest. The metal is torn and stretched. We will begin by hammering it back into place, then tig welding the crack and attempting to restore the stretched metal with a Proshaper shrinking disk.

I don’t come here to listen to music. You piss me off because you go so far beyond where the rest of us would add filler, but you do it because you have the talent. If anyone is picking apart your finished work I’d like to see their work. Love it as always.

Kyle, now that the precious few hours of spring are arriving in Saskatchewan open the door to the shop and let in some air. I fear the fumes, lead paint chips, and skunk weed are getting to you.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of your smoking jacket. Being a long-time viewer, I remember it when it was just a wee vest. Once their arms grow, their inquisitiveness will often get the better of them and sadly most meet their fate in unfortunate circumstances. I am glad to have had the benefit of witnessing yours overcome its earlier perils and get to wear its early battle scars with pride while it soldiered on, giving months of faithful service before finally succumbing in the grand finale. Will it be buried or cremated?

    KYLE, THAT is TOTALLY AMAZING.
    Apologies are in order.
I have been on a new hospital construction project for 5 weeks, 7 days a week, averaging 14 - 16 hrs per day.
Today, I said stop, 2 days of rest to take care of the important things in life, such as some of Kyle's videos.
I had heard some about the shrinking wheel but never seen one in action. Thanks for the demonstration.
The "Music of the Wheel - opus # 3" was appropriate for the video.
It did make the video more appealing!

Outstanding as usual. I watch a lot of metal fabricators on youtube, and you are at the top. No one else can bring there sheet metal work to a polish finish. Most only get the work to 40 percent and fill the rest with bondo. So the question really is, are they metal shapers or bondo shapers. I really think there are only a handful of guys who can do work like yours.

May I say how much I enjoyed your choice of music today. Most channels use generic ‘rock’ noise, some guitarist wagging his ego around in a most offensive manner.
To his credit, Halfass Kustoms uses more variable uncopyrighted noise but the disinterest of those bored session musicians is evident and depressing as hell.
Wheras your selection was spot on. Bravo

I don't think your canoe is the only thing that capsized 🤣 The only thing missing from the bandages was Duct Tape! This will really help me to repair the fence post punctured cab corner on my Chevy. You did a number of things different than I would have, but you still adhered to the principles of good metal working and finishing! Thats not common!
Theres a lot of people here complementing you, because they are in awe of your work. However, they dont have the knowledge or experience to know why, or how it is you are so good. Thats not me. I really see **Why*** you are as good as you are, and I am truly impressed!

You went WAY past the point where most would have used a light skim coat of filler on the weld, and no one would have ever been the wiser. You could make a lot more money fixing high end restorations, but then you'd have to deal with high end people, and my jedi senses tell me that would be anathema to you. You're not a body repair guy, you're a goddamn artistic genius.

I really enjoy your channel, I appreciate your videos they are very helpful.
About the Shrinking discs, and magic marker, soap etc. I learned from Ken Sakamoto who also invented the shrinking disc, his disc is serrated and doesn’t require any type of lubricants to use it. They are labeled as Sunchaser tools . I’ve never tried the flat discs , only Kens, and I’ve never had to use any marker or soap or anything, another thing is the discs won’t work at low speed or RPMS, Ken recommends a 5,000 rpm grinder which is what I got. Ken showed me and proved to me just what those are capable of . I took a Knot about the size of 1/3rd of a tennis ball out of a sun visor . It was dented from end to end. The knot had me worried so I called Ken , then took it to his shop where he showed me what I was doing wrong. It took quite a few passes with the disc but that knot disappeared I delivered the visor in bare metal
