Brie Larson is really good in “Room”. Probably her best role imo. & yes, Dave Franco is James’ little brother. He’s also in Neighbors with Zac Efron & Seth Rogen! I’d recommend that one if you want something similar to this.

The "Willie Nelson's horse" line is actually overdubbed. It was originally "Whitney Houston's niece", but Whitney had died just before the film's release.
The only thing there with Franco characters parents was how much he hates that his parents don't care about him. It's pointed out a few times how neglectful and abusive the parents are since he's always left alone.
