Btw this issue is not just an MLB thing either. In the Japanese baseball league (NPB), teams have their own uniform suppliers and there are 3 teams that have Fanatics create their jerseys. They have also taken a noticeable hit in jersey quality as well. Yomiuri Giants (Nike/Fanatics), Seibu Lions (Fanatics) and Yakult Swallows (Majestic/Fanatics). Swallows are the only ones with decent quality jerseys but thats most likely because they are going through Majestic and not Nike or straight Fanatics.
The move away from Majestic was a disastrous idea. If Adidas was smart they would’ve gone in on MLB when they had the NBA and the NHL at the same time. (I don’t actually care all that much but my father worked for Adidas/Reebok when they were owned by Adidas for 20 years)
Y’know, all I can think of when I hear about the transparency of the jerseys is the stereotypical trope you see in shoujo manga or whatever where the love interest offers the main heroine their umbrella after a rainy school day and the heroine is gushing over how you can see their skin because of the white uniform getting wet 😭😭 not usually what I think of when at a ballgame but alright. to each their own
The only two takes I've seen online about the new jerseys are: 1) "Wow why are they so cheap?? I can see through them!" 2) "Oooh I can see through the jerseys... 🥵😳 Guess I'm watching baseball now!"
So I worked in a fabric store as a manager and ordered fabric from mills. I also worked in production sewing. MY GUESS? They changed factories for production to a cheaper production cost. Inexperience is where the sewing issues stem from. *OR* it's the same factory and the new material is not easy sew on to--it slides and shreds when sewn. A lot of performance style fabrics are knits that would shred under the multiple piercings of the fiber during embroidery and would be distorted by the kind of sizing/facing that would protect the fabric. There are probably even variances by color as color dyes can effect the yarn of the fabric. I kind of favor this second explanation because it really explains ALL of the issues. The pants fabric is that same order order of named/color material, but the manufacture of material changed. (If they changed factories, very common to find a new source for the same material due to logistics.) It may be the yarn the fabric is made of changed in some way. This is a frequent problem with production sewing. Each mill will not produce the same fabric even if it's call called ponte or sateen, it will vary production run to production run of yardage, you get the idea.
It looks like they went from some kind of actual sports/performance fabric (often made out of polyester for those not into textiles) to just... plain poly.
Text treatment went from something properly type-set to generic template. Or they changed the template itself if they had a previous template. Erm... possibly even someone using a knock-off font instead of an official one that has proper spacing and they never bothered to fix anything with it. They probably only spent 30 seconds for typesetting and called it a day
Which is why it’s important for sales reps to be familiar with the production process and the product itself, including seeing the samples of the fabric and how it reacts to being embroidered. And using those to sell the product. When you go on a companies word alone, you are not guaranteed Any quality standards. I simply don’t understand when people who work for production companies aren’t required to learn or know about their product in a practical capacity.
As someone who is involved in the Tumblr baseball fandom, there is a deep conflict between "these are ugly/poorly made/bad quality and MLB should be ashamed" and "I am looking 👀" going on, but everyone agrees that there needs to be some sort of coordination going on with players when it comes to underwear. My vote is that someone needs to wear those hearts-patterned boxers or some other flashy design. Or, as other people have suggested, go commando. Maybe that would lead to change. I will say, as a respectful appreciator of MLB cakes, we need to do better for the coverings for the big dumpy! And by big dumpy I am of course referring to Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh what else could I possibly be talking about.
Unfortunately, there are rules in regards to uniforms, so they are not allowed to pull off these types of shenanigans without potentially getting disqualified/disciplinary actions. Even just having the wrong underwear would be a demerit, such as black underwear instead of white if they can tell what color it is as it would happen with less transparent white pants

Another option is wearing dark red lingerie under their uniforms, it would make the flaws in the new uniform more obvious and while also keeping all the important bits covered.

As a hobby sewist my guess is the new company’s pitch went “we can get you the same xyz fabric blend you’re used to from this factory but for cheaper” but not all places do the same blend, ie they might all call it “jersey knit” but what might be a 10% cotton 10% rayon and 80% acrylic blend from one place under that name is now a 5% cotton, 30% rayon and 65% acrylic and it’s become maybe become way thinner, more slippery and shreds more easily. (Material names and blend percentages are just made up to prove a point). It’s basically just corporate BS and the people who know materials are probably spoken over to keep profits high and this is how they can say, “oh it’s the same material as last year” but when you break it down it’s not really. Like I don’t agree with but understand cheaping out on fan merch, a shitty practice but common, but these are literal athletes being paid big bucks to perform for people’s entertainment and to be profited off of, it’s wild to see them with badly kerned, small and hard to read names, numbers sloppily placed and see-through pants! As someone who played baseball I’d definitely be a bit nervous to slide in those, and are they really saving money if the jerseys are trash after a single game due to their lower quality? I hope someone pulls a stunt. It’s just really gross to see entities with huge profits do stuff like this and then try to gaslight people.
If I played baseball I would be thrilled to slide in these new uniforms. Prove to the MLB how completely brainless this decision was and make sure this isn't a cost saving measure after I've torn through my 3rd pair of pants this game.
As someone who used to work at an apparel printing company, everyone involved in these decisions should be ashamed. It's a cost cutting measure, for sure. Sports Twill (the standard layers and embroidered part of a jersey, usually the teams logo) are AMAZING. So much work and craftsmanship goes into making them look just right and it's an immediate sign of quality. Don't even get me started on the lack of quality in the fabric... I own one jersey for the Cardinals and I can't imagine getting a new one WITHOUT even a cheap twill front??? These prints will not last. It's one thing for the numbers and name letters to be vinyl, but the rest of the jersey? Not even the patches are real? UP. SETTING.
No, this is real and an issue across the board. Castore made a Red Bull F1 sweater that started peeling the second time I wore it. Thankfully, New Era brought fully embroidered hats back instead of more heat-pressed garbage. Just go back to screen printing if my shirt is going to literally fall apart the week I get it.
Yikes this reminds me of what happened in the premier League (soccer) where Aston Villa straight up cut their contract with a jersey provider last year because when they got wet the jerseys would retain too much water and the players all looked like they came out of the ocean.
I'm sure someone with zero understanding of fabric content or weaves made a call to use something cheaper to save money without realizing what will happen with that. It's sad because quality fabrics aren't even that expensive as far as a multi billion dollar company is concerned. I'm not familiar enough with sports uniforms to know what they're usually made out of, but this is almost certainly due to being cheap.
Fanatics has been infiltrating the NHL fan jerseys for years (previous supplier was Reebok) and the quality has been awful. Now they are also switching over the game-worn jerseys to fanatics as well for the 24-25 season. Can't wait! /s
imagine doing all that hard work to get on the mlb only to be rewarded with a see through probably produced in a sweat shop uniform that will most definitely need to be replaced constantly
It's too cheap for cheap truckers hats too you can literally go one town over from where I live to their local mall and get whatever you want embroidered onto a hat of your choice right in front of you for like 10 bucks.
Swell is now in her sports fashion arc. My condolences that you grew up an Angels fan. At least you had two of the greatest players in MLB history on your team at one point
I just went to my first baseball game as an adult this weekend and I was literally thinking the uniforms looked terrible, I don’t remember them looking that bad when I was younger.
16:53 I think Scherzer would do it. Dude's unhinged and he was ready to strip down on the field a few years ago when the Umps kept checking him for sticky.
hello! graphic designer and shirt designer here! what your looking at is heat transfer, a version of printing that is signifigantly cheaper because its not sopposed to hold up to wear and tear.. heat transfer is soposed to last for 2 years tops. as for the tight ness of more spread out of the lettering, that could be the lack of a graphic designer creating mockups that actually fit the payers, as with how nice the old ones looked, id assume they had before. as a designer myself, i can tell these letters were absolutly not optically corrected either, where letters are made bigger smaller wider or thinner to make sure everything looks right to the eye, especially a t a distance.. thios is just sad, my jaw dropped when you mentioned the price jump too! they should be ashamed of themselves for this. not even mentioning the lower quality materials.....
It looks like they used automatic alignment in the design, not optical. That means they just let the software look at edges and mathematical centers and no one went back and adjusted it to make it visually *look* aligned.
As a Mets fan, I thought you were gonna talk about the walking advertisements jerseys became. For the Mets we had this huge one from Presbyterian hospital until the owner said it was too much. Now this, this is just awful quality all around
Okay, love that you both play and are sponsored by June's Journey! It's been my favorite mobile game for relaxing for years now and i love them supporting a creator I watch!
If a player wants to try going commando during a game, make sure it isn’t in Seattle, our stadium has a retractable roof and they will pause the game to close it if it starts to rain.
This is wild because for *ages* I've heard the advice that "investment" in clothing is better than replacing clothing every year or two. The concept being that by paying more money upfront, you're saving money long-term. But this shows that even the richest people (the team owners and the companies that sell uniforms to the team owners) who are clothing other rich people (the players) are still unwilling to provide a quality product. So even if you're both *able and willing* to shell out cash for something, what is being offered is still crap. So much for (the myth that) "quiet wealth" fashion translates to "better quality." Just as a personal side note: This is why I exclusively thrift my clothes. I haven't seen anything new on a rack that was worth the price for which they're asking. I try to vet my clothes and research brands for longevity and quality in addition to comfort and my personal style, but even so, if my clothes aren't going to last, then I'm not paying double digits for anything if I can avoid it.
I mean, just because they /can/ spend more money doesn't mean they want to. Sports teams are a business and it's in their best interest to cut costs wherever they can. I'm sure the only reason all these leagues are changing over to Fanatics is because they're cheaper. All this to say, it's definitely not a myth that it's better to buy higher-quality stuff for more than cheap stuff for less.
What bugs me most about this story is how it was reported in the news. A lot of female news readers were ogling the players, saying they “will have to start watching baseball *wink*”. It had the same slimy tone of the old FIFA president saying female footballers should “wear tighter shorts”. It feels like nobody calls folks out when women objectify men
The thing about the jerseys being more like athletic shirts, is that players already wear athletic shirts underneath them to wick sweat, and for comfort, so now they're basically dual-layering gym shirts. The whole point of the baseball jersey is to be like a heavy duty t-shirt that's comfortable, but also stands up to the abuse that professional players are going to put the jerseys through, so they obviously aren't doing this for the players sakes, but just to save on fabric costs. Not to mention the MLB logo moving below the collar, the players names shrinking, the patches changing from stitched+embroidered to heat pressed (except for the MLB and Nike logos, those are still stitched+embroidered), and it's all just very disappointing and underwhelming. And the argument of "give the license back to Majestic" unfortunately isn't valid because Fanatics bought out Majestic in 2019, so even if they changed the logos, they'd likely still be the same quality. This has me extremely worried about NHL jerseys, because the current Adidas ones are beautiful, but if baseball is getting garbage like this, how bad are the hockey ones gonna be? Overall, shame on Nike and Fanatics, I have a custom Dodgers Ohtani jersey that uses the old jersey, but has Ohtani and 17 on it, plus the city patch, so I'm satisfied with that, but I definitely will not be getting any official MLB jersey's for the foreseeable future, I don't have enough money to spend on garbage.
For these athletes the jerseys are their work uniform. It is what they work so hard for during their childhoods into teens and adulthood. They deserve to have their work uniform be high quality, and allow them to keep their dignity.
I work at a baseball stadium and when someone asked me what I thought of the new city connect uniforms (a team that had them last year), I told them the truth and they're ugliest things. That person was owner of the team and my boss without realizing it, they laughed and nothing happened to me luckily.
Oh boy these scream unethical labour practices and environmental repercussions from artificial fabrics. I HATE the current state of garment manufacturing across the board but especially activewear that is literally 100% plastic which sheds microplastics, usually non-recyclable, and are non-breathable which traps sweat and bacteria making you sweat even more and stink 😭 I have a Nike polo shirt that my mother gave me that is from so long ago that it’s a thick and robust 100% cotton weave that I treasure with all my heart. The fashion industry is my enemy
Does anybody remember that time Lenny Kravitz's pants split mid concert because he did a squat and the leather was tight and his whole entire package popped out? Yeah, I think we're gonna get a repeat of that
Huge baseball fan and been subscribed to you for 4? years and did a double take when I saw you covering a baseball story. Love these two worlds colliding
If the pants weren't bad enough construction-wise, they also didn't even send all the teams enough this spring. A couple of teams reported that a bunch of their non-roster/minor league players had to scrounge around for last year's pants because they didn't have enough. A lot of players also noted that they had fewer tailoring and sizing options for the pants this year. That's because Nike relied on body scans of a select group of players to develop the size and fit of both the jerseys and pants. They're no longer made to measure, but rather a set number of sizing options. It's absolutely brutal stuff. They tried the jerseys out in last year's all-star game and they looked NOTHING like this so something definitely happened in manufacturing. Also, as a Jays fan, I'm so disappointed this drop-off had to happen now because we're getting our city connect jerseys this season and I was so pumped to get one....now I'm not so sure lol. Loved the video as always!!
So, is it possible that the logo was a patch on the neck banding and now it's PRINTED on? That would explain why they moved it from the neckband to the upper part of the back.
I bought my baby an Under Armor football jersey. (Bougie, I know, but it’s for my favorite team in all sports.) He was able to wear it exactly twice before the paint (ink?) on the jersey started shredding off and leaving paint bits all over my house.
Oh my god! When you where talking about the jerseys I was looking at the pants and was thinking 'Are those pants see through?!?!' And I don't watch MLB, I don't even get any content apart from this video on it and yet I was able to pick up how see through the pants where by looking it for 5 seconds. The jerseys look like all the manufacturing staff quit and the people from head office were panicking and tried to do it themselves. The comment about the pockets right at the end was so good.
if nhl sweaters become heat pressed theres going to be a Problem, since the equipment managers actively sew on new names and numbers if they need to up to and including during a game! imagine having to basically cricut together an EBUG sweater during an intermission? absolutely not.
Bruh I literally got a custom jersey from a kind of knock off company of Fanatic and it was hand-sewn onto the jersey for a single piece order for like $25. HOW IS THIS THE OFFICIAL UNIFORM??
Longtime Dodgers fan here, and I bought my "official" jersey once Ohtani announced he was going to the Dodgers. (Granted, this was before I was aware of the new Fanatics fabrication.) When it arrived in the mail, I was SHOCKED at how cheap the quality felt for something I paid over $100 for. It honestly feels like a Dodgers jersey-style shirt I bought at Target for maybe $30 at the time. I chalked it up to being a women's cut versus an actual replica jersey (since it's no secret that women's clothing often gets the shaft in construction and fabrication compared to their male counterparts), but how incredibly disappointing to see it's across the board, even for the players themselves!
I’m so sad, when Nike first purchased the rights to manufacture the jerseys, they were so beautiful, the stitching was awesome, the quality was prime Nike grade. I miss the older jerseys, I’ve been wanting to buy a jersey this year but it’s not worth what they’re asking me to spend.
9:05 They said it to our faces -- performance wear. In game settings, one can prioritize performance. I think MLB is using another meaning for 'performance' - the act of presenting or staging a show.
I can almost feel this material right through my screen - anyone who's ever bought a $3 Walmart toddler shirt-and-shorts set in paper-thin 100% acrylic knows what I'm talking about. I immediately thought "it's the Temu-fication of everything left in the world," and the comments (both those included in the video, and those down here in the TH-cam comment section) let me know I'm not alone.
My white uniform pants were two layers, and you couldn’t see the tails of my brightly colored jersey or my sliding shorts under them at all. Missing layers sounds plausible…also I am somehow personally disrespected by Marte’s Jersey.
this is like how for that willy wonka experience thing the oompa loompas were given cheaper, "sexy" versions of their costumes. they're pimping out baseball stars
The only way I can think of why the letters on the jerseys are so bad is because of the difference in the fabric. The fabric might be thinner and harder for the letters to be pressed or printed on to that they just slip and embroidering the patches or letters might snag the cheap “breathable” fabric
14:33 Honestly, I see that as plausible. But I also imagine they tested them in a room with approximately one light in it and tested it by sitting down once. These look so horrible
I’ve seen better quality from the T-shirt’s I got playing softball as a pre-teen sponsored by a local restaurant😳 at least our numbers were even and our names not squished, the bad kerning on the letters is 🥴
7:56 "… but you get what you pay for." On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, when even the fan jerseys are ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FRIGGIN DOLLARS, I'd expect to get quality. Even after like half of that going right to the club for license rights.
Appreciate you covering this....I hadn't seen the story but am getting more into minor league baseball & wondering if the transparent crap trickles down, too. Also appreciate you sharing ways to find jerseys without buying new & voting with your wallet.
I am so glad that the Royals lobbied to get out of the fanatics deal as hard as they could because I can't imagine how badly KCK and KCMO would react to the quality lol.
Sewist here, my practical knowledge of fabrics maybe off but how I understand it..to make artificial fibers (plastic) more breathable? Put more holes in it! Theres only so much hole density you can have before sheerness is achieved.
They are literally just getting rid of real embroidery so they can have even higher profit margin and don't care about the quality if it stays like this I hope they sell no fan jerseys this year and realize that the quality does matter you cannot sell what probably costs less than $15 to actually make, this insane of a price for crap quality
Those jerseys are like the items sold in ads in the back of 1970's comic books or ads on VHF stations, advertising something as authentic and you get a cheap cardboard or plastic item.
From SoCal originally with the same upbringing as you, playing softball, going to Dodgers and Angels games. Married a baseball player. Now I'm living in Oklahoma and our girls are softball players. My husband has become a diehard college softball viewer/fan and even he has ditched watching baseball altogether because it isn't what it once was. We're the home of OU softball and the quality and production of these games VS current day MLB is a gross contrast. Gone are the days of Field of Dreams.
As someone whose family works in baseball (venues etc), our fan merch stores have better jerseys for fans to put their names on the back. The jerseys they put on the feild should not look worse than the one you can buy in the gift shop. I will be surprised if mlb doesn’t change it next off season. Especially once regular season games start up. Game worn jerseys are often auctioned off for charity events etc. If the jersey doesnt survive the game then there isnt a jersey to auction off. There goes the tax deduction lol Triple A teams have little to no choice and are essentially subject to the whims of their major league affiliates. Unfortunately, this means players who already arent getting paid a livable wage now have to wear two ply toilet paper pants in public and attempt to perform at a level to make the majors. This sucks for folks who very much are not and likely will not be millionaires ever.
I grew up going to Ranger games, since 1993. Practically a lifelong fan. I may or may not have cried when they won the World Series this past season. (I absolutely did.)
Imagine playing baseball your entire life, working so hard to finally get on an MLB team, getting so excited to see a pro jersey with your name and number on it....And getting handed THESE?? I'd be taking my bat to some executive's cars.
It looks like they are forced to place the text on a circle now. The older ones look like they made a curve that flowed best with the name length and number

I mean the jerseys are awful but the pants are another level of "oh my god". You are right though, its very possible we just have to wait for someone to "take one for the team" and wear them on a rainy day with no underwear before something changes.
Also: Seeing a lot of thirsty "Ooh I wanna see where do I find these pics, I'm gonna start watching baseball!" comments and ew. Come on ladies you wouldn't be happy about it if this was happening to women. Don't be a hypocrite, we're better than that. Let's not fetishize all these guys, they're clearly not happy with the situation either
THANK YOU! For the sexualizing-comment, it made me so uncomfortable to see all those 😬🤢 like, wtf?!
@@kristelbrok998 same! I was like “wait isn’t this exactly what we’ve been fighting against happening to us? We should be giving these men the same respect and let them keep their dignity.
Agreed. I enjoy degrading men in general, but it's their job?? They do it to feed their families? No one should have to endure that at work, I feel they could sue for this.
@@Khunai. I mean, hooters exists. But I understand what you're saying

Ohhhh v helpful note, ty! Baseball (やきゅう) is extremely popular in Japan!!
NHL has been dealing with it for at least a couple years
The move away from Majestic was a disastrous idea. If Adidas was smart they would’ve gone in on MLB when they had the NBA and the NHL at the same time.
(I don’t actually care all that much but my father worked for Adidas/Reebok when they were owned by Adidas for 20 years)
Y’know, all I can think of when I hear about the transparency of the jerseys is the stereotypical trope you see in shoujo manga or whatever where the love interest offers the main heroine their umbrella after a rainy school day and the heroine is gushing over how you can see their skin because of the white uniform getting wet 😭😭 not usually what I think of when at a ballgame but alright. to each their own
HELP I THOUGHT THE SAME THING💀
mlb execs saw the hockey shipping fandom and took notes
Can’t wait to see Ohtani looking all bishi
The only two takes I've seen online about the new jerseys are:
1) "Wow why are they so cheap?? I can see through them!"
2) "Oooh I can see through the jerseys... 🥵😳 Guess I'm watching baseball now!"
if only baseball players were all rlly toned or smth 😔 the most that some of the lucky ones have are dumptrucks

@@TheCamSaysif thats what it takes to change, well then I guess we need a league-wide protest
When you go on a companies word alone, you are not guaranteed
Any quality standards.
I don’t think they would be allowed to play commando for several reasons, but my concern would be getting charged with indecent exposure or smth
@@VultureSkinsthat’s the mlbs fault not theirs 😂
Unfortunately, there are rules in regards to uniforms, so they are not allowed to pull off these types of shenanigans without potentially getting disqualified/disciplinary actions. Even just having the wrong underwear would be a demerit, such as black underwear instead of white if they can tell what color it is as it would happen with less transparent white pants
I'm not even 30, but the decrease in overall quality of life in this country just in my lifetime has been astounding. It feels like you seriously can't buy anything now that isn't intentionally made shitty, with a price tag that's just out of control. Late-stage capitalism rots everything it touches.
I will say that it's become much easier to avoid impulse purchases when I know that there's a 9/10 chance I'll be wasting my money on literally anything I buy these days.
No frr I swear all earbuds are made to die after 6 months like why pay good money for shit that will die soon anyway? Planned obsolescence is a cancer on society

How the hell is a fan jersey i bought like 10 years ago better quality then the ones they have given the professional players.

Another option is wearing dark red lingerie under their uniforms, it would make the flaws in the new uniform more obvious and while also keeping all the important bits covered.

REAL.
@ville__ and nobody asked
My partner works in baseball and day one of spring training he came home and was like "you have to see the new uniforms, it's hilarious" 😂
Can't wait! /s
Those jerseys look like they'd fit right in at a bachelorette party
imagine doing all that hard work to get on the mlb only to be rewarded with a see through probably produced in a sweat shop uniform that will most definitely need to be replaced constantly
They have been produced in sweat shops prior, but now it's just lower quality
A professional MLB jersey should NOT be heat pressed. Heat pressed is for cheap trucker hats.
At least you had two of the greatest players in MLB history on your team at one point

hello! graphic designer and shirt designer here! what your looking at is heat transfer, a version of printing that is signifigantly cheaper because its not sopposed to hold up to wear and tear.. heat transfer is soposed to last for 2 years tops. as for the tight ness of more spread out of the lettering, that could be the lack of a graphic designer creating mockups that actually fit the payers, as with how nice the old ones looked, id assume they had before. as a designer myself, i can tell these letters were absolutly not optically corrected either, where letters are made bigger smaller wider or thinner to make sure everything looks right to the eye, especially a t a distance.. thios is just sad, my jaw dropped when you mentioned the price jump too! they should be ashamed of themselves for this. not even mentioning the lower quality materials.....

Damn I don’t care about baseball but even i can admit this is so WRONG 😂 Their old uniforms and dignity need to be returned asap
It looks like they used automatic alignment in the design, not optical. That means they just let the software look at edges and mathematical centers and no one went back and adjusted it to make it visually *look* aligned.

So much for (the myth that) "quiet wealth" fashion translates to "better quality."
Just as a personal side note: This is why I exclusively thrift my clothes.
It’s funny because baseball is not big in my country but I love it since I was a kid, I don’t even remember why, but I do enjoy watching the games
Can literally see the nike logo on the underware underneath their pants
So, is it possible that the logo was a patch on the neck banding and now it's PRINTED on? That would explain why they moved it from the neckband to the upper part of the back.
Almost certainly.
I had embroidery done to jackets in the 1990s that looked 100x better than these photos... not to mention it was from a store in a mall
if nhl sweaters become heat pressed theres going to be a Problem, since the equipment managers actively sew on new names and numbers if they need to up to and including during a game! imagine having to basically cricut together an EBUG sweater during an intermission? absolutely not.

I love how fanatics tried to play off you could see through the pants saying "Oh no they were always like that". Like we can't go back and look 😂

I don't watch baseball. For some reason I always thought the uniforms were like onesies. Mind blown to find out they're wearing two pieces 😅
Literally same 😂
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO now im imagining baseball onesies.. lol
I immediately thought "it's the Temu-fication of everything left in the world," and the comments (both those included in the video, and those down here in the TH-cam comment section) let me know I'm not alone.
i get sooo excited when a random thing i deep dived on twitter about one night ends up being a swell video topic
My theory about the see through pants - MLB saw what some thirsty booktokkers did for NHL sales and they wanted to be a part of it too.
This reminds me of when George put the Yankees in all cotton uniforms and they started to shrink as they sweat.
Only sort of related to this, but I would love to see your take on the Savannah Bananas and the Party Animals. :)

Sewist here, my practical knowledge of fabrics maybe off but how I understand it..to make artificial fibers (plastic) more breathable? Put more holes in it! Theres only so much hole density you can have before sheerness is achieved.
This is on Fanatics. They probably have a Graphic Design intern who just learned how to put text on a curve.
I thought I was playing the board game Monopoly. But nope, I’m in a world where a real life monopoly is Fanatics
They are literally just getting rid of real embroidery so they can have even higher profit margin and don't care about the quality if it stays like this I hope they sell no fan jerseys this year and realize that the quality does matter you cannot sell what probably costs less than $15 to actually make, this insane of a price for crap quality
Fanatics has been notorious for having terrible quality for years and years.
As a mariners fan, my favorite player may be big dumper but that does not mean I want to see his big dump truck
Swell’s brother caught a direct bullet 😭😂
As someone whose family works in baseball (venues etc), our fan merch stores have better jerseys for fans to put their names on the back. The jerseys they put on the feild should not look worse than the one you can buy in the gift shop. I will be surprised if mlb doesn’t change it next off season. Especially once regular season games start up. Game worn jerseys are often auctioned off for charity events etc. If the jersey doesnt survive the game then there isnt a jersey to auction off. There goes the tax deduction lol
Triple A teams have little to no choice and are essentially subject to the whims of their major league affiliates.

It looks like they are forced to place the text on a circle now.
The older ones look like they made a curve that flowed best with the name length and number
