I love Native, their body wash pH is 5.5 which is ideal for intimate areas, it doesn't disrupt your natural pH & that is great! Perfect for those with bidets as you can use it several times a day & not worry about irritation/dryness!

@@elizethompson8627 according to the autopsy she hadn't been SA. It's believed that the main reason he gave her s ride was to have intercourse with her but she rejected his advances so he strangled her, thought she had died so threw her in the ocean alive. That's just a theory some people have and I also believe it because oftentimes sex is the main reason to kidnap someone.

Icelandic local here. I remember when this case struck the country. There was so much hope she was alive (at least among the public) so when she was found, it was heartbreaking.
It is normal to help people. Now we use our common sense but for example just last winter there was a terrible snow storm and I was walking to work and a random lady stopped and let me in her car and went out of her way to take me to work. So yes people here can be very kind but like some comments say, this is not a risk people should take lightly. No place is 100% safe these days. Crime has gone up in the past few years here, not kidnapping and such but assault, attacks and such. It’s a bit worrying
Thank you for making this video, as a local I really appreciate it

What happened to Birna Brjànsdóttir was devastating to Iceland. While cosmopolitan, the communality of Reykjavík means that such rare cases are generally closed relatively fast.
I grew up in the late Eighties in Iceland 🇮🇸 💕 and it was indeed a very welcoming & charming country where children could roam and explore places like Reykjavík fearless exuberance.
Returning to the States, the loss of that sense of community & freedom & security was one component of the depressing culture shock that slammed me (along with the casual viciousness and brand-obsessed mallrat-materialism of American youth culture especially at the time lol)…
Iceland is truly a treasure in Europe with its wonderfully friendly people, a capital city that is colorful, cozy, and full of character, its fertile arts & cultural scenes, and, of course, its stunning & enchanting natural beauty. 🗻❄️🏔️
If you’re headed to the UK / Northern Europe, consider a connection flight for a stint in Iceland!

      As an Icelander:
This case was absolutely horrible and the whole nation was stuck by. Thomas Møller acted with such cruelty that I get the chills thinking about him. BUT!
In Iceland, our prison system is different from the what you have in the US. Instead of treating convicts like animals in cages, we treat them as human beings. Loosing 19 years of your freedom is a lot. Hopefully enough for him to learn his lesson, get rehabilitated and find a better path for the rest of his life.
I have absolutely no respect for Thomas Møller, but I have respect for the human life, and the Icelandic system that treats people with dignity.
TM committed a horrible crime, he should be punished, but be careful - if the punishment is more cruel than the crime, who should be judging whom?

    • @emperorgrogg
      @emperorgrogg 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@BottleOfCoke I have to agree. Recidivism rates in countries like the US are high because it's punishment > rehabilitation. Then these people get released and can't work or be part of society in any way, so they're often left with no option but to continue being criminal. That's not to say there shouldn't be monitoring after release or anything ofc.

Thank you for familiarizing Greenland for us. It is interesting the crime rate is still so low in a country in this day and age.
I totally agree with you about what he did with her. I was thinking he got pissed because she didn't accept his advances and he thinks "how dare anyone not accept HIS advances!" He probably thought he could get anyone he wanted. I'm thankful the Captain of the crew turned it around and removed the chances of their seeing anything in the news about it. They may have jumped off, but idk, cause the water was so cold. I feel so sorry for her and can't imagine all that she went through before her death. I am sorry for the family that their loved one had to be the one to be an example of how women still can't be too careful, even in a place that has no crime.
I wondered the whole time where the other girl they picked up was and knew the Kia was too small for three people to fit in the backseat! Sure enough, she did t exist. I was wondering why she wasn't available to tell h ow the night ended with them.
Interestingly enough, Greenland is one of two places that don't have mosquitoes! Can you imagine their summer, so nice and NO MOSQUITOS!?

There are good and bad people everywhere. However I saw something in Okinawa, that I never see here in the USA anymore. Children playing alone on the streets in major cities. I felt safe walking with my friend ( we are women) at night. It was refreshing to say the least. People were open and friendly, both the servicemen we ran into, and especially the locals. Aside from a couple of old men shooting us dirty looks, everyone was open and friendly and went out of their way to help us. I've heard that there are hard feelings from some of the locals towards our men over there. I would like to think that more people are open and friendly to you all too? I would imagine with prostitution being legal there, that scene is where you would find more of the pimps, drug dealers and general evil people that unfortunately are part of the human race, anywhere you go. I loved Japan, I am curious how you liked it?

Yes. Some countries just rule deaths as self inflicted or accidental instead of homicide and of course that makes it seem like murders are rare. If you compare crime rate to how good and ethical some countries police forces are, it just doesn’t match up. Japan in particular regions, is horrid at investigating crimes at all. And lest we all forget, the Iceland case where 8 or 9 people were held in jail for decades for a possible murder. They weren’t even sure a crime was actually committed.

The first of course is that the more you drink, the less you're able to make good choices, & given that our brains aren't fully matured until about age 24, & that human's habit of risk taking is both dangerous but also a major evolution jump that makes humans so successful, even just those 2 factors can prevent staying safe.

Not trying to be rude at all, but what does a country’s economic system have to do with why you think an employer in the United States wouldn’t do something like this captain did in Iceland? 22:09

This really got me thinking. So I’m back here after a couple hours. I just watched a TikTok of a guy at a gas station where a man asked the guy for some money, and then a woman asked the guy if she can pump his gas. He went in the store and came out and told the woman she could pump his gas, and then gave her $5. Are you saying that this guy probably wouldn’t have turned his fishing boat around and go back to Iceland if he learned one of his crew members may have been involved in a crime such as this?

Such a loss, and my heart goes out to her family. I am so amazed and impressed with Iceland and the lack of violent crime. The president went to this lovely young woman’s funeral, that speaks so clearly to how this country sees the loss of a life. The fact that most people are able to police themselves and murder is exceptionally rare says so much about the culture of these people. Thank you so very much for this story. You have done an amazing job of relaying it, as always! My condolences to the family of this beautiful and precious young woman , Birna (I apologize if misspelled), I truly pray for peace of mind and healing. Thank you again Rachel for another incredibly well told story.

hi Rachel ☺️ I haven't watched the video yet but I just wanted to say thank you for uploading quality content, done respectfully, so frequently!!! I know it takes time to research/record/edit these videos in addition to everything else going on in your life and I just wanted to let you know that it is so supremely appreciated!!! also wanted to say ty for being respectful of the victims, always making an effort to be mindful, + refusing to put anything that's not able to be verified in your videos. I only watch a few true crime YT channels bc it just really disturbs me that some of the biggest channels make an extremely generous living off of telling the stories of REAL ppl that have disappeared, been tortured and raped and murdered, etc. and then not only do they not donate any of the money they make off the backs of these victims to related causes/organizations, but they make jokes throughout the entire video and just generally treat it with less respect than I feel like it deserves. I really don't care for most of the true crime community bc a lot of it feels extremely exploitative + like ppl forget that these are real ass ppl who had these horrible things done to them + that the "story" continues for them and their families long after viewers close out the video and go on with their lives. anyway... I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and for handling these extremely sensitive subjects so tactfully + respectfully. 💕

My parents grew up very poor in u.s and join the military. My mom was station in Germany and no matter how lovely it was and the law crime, her moto was always "there is no such thing as a safe place." She taught me to alway keep that in mind when I had the opportunity to go to Germany. As dark that may sound to some people it's a rule of law to always live by regardless your gender, race etc. There is no such things as a safe place, bad people exist, live and come from all walks of life.

While I absolutely understand Rachel’s sentiment regarding the ship’s captain from Greenland, I’m not sure it has much to do with capitalism vs socialism/communism. The number of human rights violations perpetrated and the number of innocent people murdered at the hands of leaders such as Lenin, Stalin, Gorbachev, etc. (and Putin, of course, though Russia is no longer considered a communist regime), as well as under the CCP and other like-minded countries who hide behind claims of social equality but have no rule of law, is irrefutably and exponentially greater than the loss of life/criminality of so-called capitalist structures.
Actually, you hit the nail on the head when you observed how small and tight knit Iceland is…and even more so in Greenland. I think it is the sense of community and togetherness that small populations often foster which causes amazing things like a busy boat captain to turn around for fear of harboring a murderer. Time is money for all fishermen, freight-liners, etc. no matter where they originate. That said, if more folks had the heart and conscience of that lovely ship’s captain, the world would be a far better and far safer place for all of us!!!
