Mixey 6 out of 10 were writers, even the honourable mentions were all writers. Picasso, Salvador Delhi, Walpole, Turner, are a few painter who were famous during their lifetime. Artists of all arts struggle for success, though it seems with the coming of the modern age artists more easily thrive.

Before I clicked on this, I was like Lovecraft better be on the list. When his pic popped up 14 seconds in I was relieved. His books are printed in a dozen languages and is incredibly influential to a massive percentage of authors and film makers. This is a guy that at the end of his life was living with his aunt eating tins of beans.

The video fails to mention that Bach's rise into posthumous popularity was, in no small part, due to Felix Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn was one of the few popular 19th century composers who recognized Bach's overlooked Genius and spent great effort during his life promoting the composer and his works.

My friend and I watched this and she said: "Wait!...Where's Harvey Milk?" - Which, is a fair point to make. Yes, Harvey could be called "famous" back then for being the first openly gay man to have any source of legal power in the state of California, BUT after he died, he became a living legend! Honored to his day, people know him now because, after his death, so much attention was brought to him because of how much he inspired many upon many people to stand up and counteract the oppressiveness of not just the state of California, but the entire country at the time, and for being one of the many well-known LGBT activists, if not THE most well know, and also for being tragically shot down. His legacy easily outshines him before his demise.

Really good list, but maybe Democritus should be on here too. Why is no one talking about the death of Robert Falcon Scott. The first British person to launch an expedition to reach the south pole.
In 1911 the British and the Russians had a race to the pole. The Russians won, much to the dismay of Scott and his party when they found a Russian flag left behind on the pole. On the way back he and his team all perished. It was only after the news of his death did he become a famous celebrated hero, and have statues of him put up. some say, if he did come back alive after the defeat, then people would of looked at him as a looser and a failure. Now that's rough. Die, or be called a failure for the rest of your live.

Mozart was a fucking superstar during his life time already. He played the violin in front of kings before he became eight. How is that not famous? This list is about people who became famous AFTER they died. That is why Bach is on this list but neither Mozart nor Beethoven.
How about you think a second before posting.
