There is almost NO "graphic violence" in Reservoir Dogs...it's mostly implied. At NO TIME do we see Madsen's character's knife touch the cop's ear. It's all in the audience's mind.
There is an alternate take where you do see the ear get cut off (it can be found as a deleted scene on the DVD). Tarantino decided that panning away was more effective, plus the effect really wasn't very good.

All movies directed by Oliver Stone are the most controversial movies ever! He alters historical events and claims his depictions of them as if they really happened, but they didn’t happen the way he presented them at all!
I've seen movies far more shocking than A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE was much worse and so were the remakes, which featured sequels, and all of them were absolutely gratuitous.
The ironic thing is that the guy who wrote the novel that inspired Birth of Nation hated the revival of the Klan; he claimed that it was the duty of the Klan to "help the lesser races" instead of attacking them.

When I first saw Clockwork, back in '71, I thought it was a masterpiece and that it was the beginning for the future of movies. The violence was satirized and I thought that was obvious, but the surprise was that people didn't like that. Instead, it turned out that audiences preferred the more realistic violence depicted in the movies which followed, and is even more popular today.

::Spoilers ahead:: Clockwork Orange and The Exorcist are Disney movies compared to "A Serbian Film". A newborn is raped right after it's born, and a man unknowingly has sex with his drugged child son, I could go on. Did I miss something from those other movies that's more controversial than that?
Serbian film feels too edgy. Clockwork orange is more subtle about violence and is actualy a really great movie. Serbian film was never as well kniwn as Clockwork orange, and that makes Clickwork orange more impactful and controversial. Plus the movie inspired many real life events of teenagers breaking into people's houses and acting like Alex.

@@michaelpalmieri7335 I should have said that I haven't watched the full film. What I can remember was that my mother started watching it alone when I was playing outside. When I went home I saw the scene where the girl was brutally being (censored word) on the river. It wasn't pleasant so I asked my mom what was happening and she told me what it was. She actually had me play outside again as she felt that I was not comfortable watching it due to some nudity and brutality. When I came back again it was already the ending where the protagonist realized who the true cannibals were. She then lent the cd to one of our neighbors who is the father of my cousin. When DVD was rampant in those days, usually what the neighborhood do is gather inside a house and watch a movie. Even some had to be just outside the house to peep. I watched some parts past the scene mentioned above when group watching happened. I was with some of my cousins, uncles, aunts, and some adults. When they laughed and mocked the brutality scene where the perpetrators got their karma, I also laughed with my cousins but still, I can't hide the fact that it felt disturbing watching it even though I watched it with a group of people. My cousins and I were aged seven, eight, and 2 nines(including me). I'm from the Philippines by the way.
Movie critic Richard Roeper, whom I'm sure is not religious, laughed at all the dismay over the violent crucifixion scene when so many more movies are far more violent, as he pointed out in his review.
In cannibal Holocaust, the cannibal stuff was a non issue really. It was that the missing people were seen as victims, the cannibles as savages for over half the movie. Then at the end, when they watch the footage they saw that the cannibals were just getting revenge for what the film crew did to their tribe.
The issue was mostly behind the scenes when they suspected the guy who made the movie actually killed the actors (he didn't thank god) all because of the animal deaths being real...yeah animals were harmed in the making of that film sadly.
The Exorcist is THE BEST ever Horror movie and arguably one of the greatest films PERIOD in cinema. I remember how I was spooked by it when seeing it for the first time at 24 years of age back in 2002 on a naval base.
I have never understood censorship by people/organisations who deem themselves the arbiter of what is permissible for others to see/experience. If it is Representative, in the Aristotelian sense of the aesthetic, and not real, what is the problem? If no one is harmed I cannot see the issue. "Bad' things happen in life. These are reflected in Art. Are we supposed to pretend that such things do not happen? I am more offended by the unrealistic, cutesy movies/shows that portray the good guy/morally-upright individual as always prevailing when in reality that is simply not true. Obviously, censors prefer to allow lies over the truth. I've seen all of these movies and and enjoyed most of them, with the exception of Pink Flamingos, which I found boring, Birth of A Nation due to its bigotry and Cannibal Holocaust for its alleged animal cruelty.

"The life of Brian" its Brilliant.
Agreed
It took me way too long to get around to Life of Brian... classic. 😂
A WatchMojo video is the last place in which I would expect to hear Nikos Kazantzakis being mentioned... and in this one he is! I am delighted!
As a Serb, I have to say that Serbian Film is a metaphor, wild metaphor but still... and look! It's right, people love controversy, it made the movie stand out. Btw, as long as we are there, I would put Martyrs (french not usa) on this list. Scarred me for life.
I was also looking for Martyrs but it was not here.
They should add it because it's very underrated. The ending is so profound as well.
Yep. Martyrs should be top 3
metaphor for what? sounds like a excuse to make a controversial splatter movie and call it art afterwards
@@chaos-fk6fs Director said it's a metaphor for how government in Serbia f*cks people in the country, hence the title. Although, there are really some nasty people in Serbia. As someone who helps animals I get threats like I am a common criminal. So yes, Serbian film indeed. Can you take me away from here??? Please?

Yeah and I didn’t realise he was in a film playing Jesus with David Bowie also in the film
I've never seen Salo nor Serbian Film, but after seeing their names on a "most disturbing movie" list, I got curious and looked up their plots on Wikipedia.
Never watching them.
Never.
Ditto. 😝Reading the PLOT made me nauseous.😝
Salo is a classic Italian film, and in my personal opinion,it's not quite as bad as it's made out to be. Yeah, there is some unsavory stuff in it,but it's watchable for the most part,by today's standards. Serbian Film,on the other hand,I have not seen it either and will never watch it. I know what happens in it,and I have absolutely no desire to watch that,I don't care if it's a well crafted film or not.
Yeah I refuse to watch that film alongside irreversible
i remember having to watch the passion of the christ when i was like 8 for catechism 😂😂
Mel Gibson is a truly gifted actor and filmmaker...
That amounts to child abuse. But so is teaching children the slew of bad history and science that fanatics insist is sacred and unquestionable.
@@corinnepmorrison1854
And a possible Anti-Semite and racist!
Gibson a "truly gifted actor and filmmaker"? That's what a lot of people still say about D.W. Griffith, who, in addition to being a film director, was also a white supremacist who made the first motion picture epic, "The Birth Of A Nation" (1915), which, despite its cinematic achievements, was nothing but racist propaganda portraying black people as savages, and depicting the Ku Klux Klan as the heroes and saviors of the Post-Civil War South.
Brainwashed
Don’t watch A Serbian Film. Most disturbing movie ever.
That's no joke. For the love of God readers don't read these comments and think the movie can't be that bad, trust me I learned the hard way, it is.
Yesssss! One of the only movies I ever regretted watching! Too horrible!!
Tim Anderson of _Bloody Disgusting_ put it best, succinctly: "You don't want to see _A Serbian Film._ You just think you do."
Disturbing, and also SUPER disgusting.
So true. Nastiest thing I’ve ever seen. I threw up once.
3:27 I didn’t know that they adapted “Crash,” but you know what, now I want to see it, honestly… I don’t know if it could possibly be worse than the book, right?
Had the hilarious moment of seeing crash in the theater n having a family sneak in with their kids only to have them run out about 7 minutes later after one of the more graphic scenes lol
I saw Apocalypse Now about 5 X's - a classic!
Could make an entire list with just Lars Von Trier
I agree. Nymphomaniac is pretty controversial too. Especially that abortion scene.
I have a Pink Flamingos poster signed by Mink Stole and John Waters. Next to my autographed picture of Goober, it is one of my most prized possessions.
I have a signed copy of Cannibal Holocaust from the director.
awesome! I have an Odorama card (from Polyester) signed by John Waters.
I got to meet both of them years ago! It was fun.
Still annoyed I missed out on a signature from the legendary Brian blessed when I was in college
I was about ready to say that you BETTER put A Clockwork Orange on this list! ;)
All movies directed by Oliver Stone are the most controversial movies ever! He alters historical events and claims his depictions of them as if they really happened, but they didn’t happen the way he presented them at all!
A Clockwork Orange is Stanley Kubrick’s magnum opus and one of his best
So y'all would forget Natural born killers fucking perfect
The dead baby scene in “Trainspotting “ was awful
I've seen movies far more shocking than A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE was much worse and so were the remakes, which featured sequels, and all of them were absolutely gratuitous.
Pretty wild that people still get upset at works of fiction for whatever reason
The ironic thing is that the guy who wrote the novel that inspired Birth of Nation hated the revival of the Klan; he claimed that it was the duty of the Klan to "help the lesser races" instead of attacking them.
I'm honestly not too surprised both Cannibal Holocaust and Serebian Film was on this list, the two most disturbing movies I ever seen.
I'm just glad two masterpieces were in the top two.
A Serbian Film was crazy sick and to think i saw it on youtube yearsss ago is wild
@@johnye2210 honestly I'm worried a lot of viewers are going to do the same thing I did and have the mentality of "how bad can it be?"

Apocalypse Now is a masterpiece
After seeing Serbian at 3, I didn't think 2 or 1 would be worthy, but they definitely are for their time. Serbian is the only movie I've ever watched that truly screwed me up.
Crash(1996) is David Cronenberg’s masterpiece
that's quite an indictment of the guy's work... The Fly is good though
most of his movies are masterpieces: Scanners, Videodrome, Rabid, Naked Lunch... repeat viewings get better and better.
@@jeanlove8510 I know
It's a good one. I've always wanted to read the J.G. Ballard novel too,but it's kind of hard to find,at least it used to be. But Cronenberg is one of the greats. Senior, anyway. I've watched a couple from his son. Nowhere near as good or interesting as Cronenberg Sr.
@@jeanlove8510I will always watch videodrome whenever it’s on tv just so weird but watchable
How old were you in 1971?
In the early 1990's, a local TV station showed Apocalypse Now, commercial free, unedited and uncensored.

Look at spookyrices channel he covers disturbing movies. Really interesting but dark. He's great at it and some of the backstory

@@MegaMaxiepad Sorry my bad. I'll add a disclaimer

A Clockwork Orange is actually part of 2001 universe along with Dr Strangelove and this movie is his last part of his visionary future trilogy. Really disturbing and controversial masterpiece.
I watched cannibal holocaust when I was 9 years old. Felt weird and somewhat traumatized.
I know animal cruelty rape of that tribal girl got impaled killing a baby beating up a woman crazy but the guy who played Alan yates I don't feel sorry for he deserved what he got but Fay no
That commenter who said he watched "The Exorcist" when he was ten years old was bad enough. But you watched "Cannibal Holocaust" (full of violence and cannibalism) when you were only NINE?
WTF!!! 🤯🤬😡😤
Your parents must have been sick in the head to let you see a movie like that!
Some of these are also some of the greatest films of all time too, btw.
7:08 I think Bruno was far more controversial...
I always thought Kubrick’s adaptation of Lolita would be more controversial than A Clockwork Orange. Surprising.
Divine was one of the inspirations for Ursula in the little mermaid
The MAIN inspiration.
Movie critic Richard Roeper, whom I'm sure is not religious, laughed at all the dismay over the violent crucifixion scene when so many more movies are far more violent, as he pointed out in his review.
I'm surprised Dogma didn't make the list.
I never watched it I gotta give it a shot
It’s ok to me not the best. I’m starting to find it a bit overhyped. There are so many amazing horror films.

Also worth mentioning:
Fight Club, Natural Born Killer, Child Play series,
Why Childs Play? Lol

Fatal Attraction, The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia were fairly controversial at the time of their release.
This is why you should never judge a movie by its cover. Usually, it's a book.
Crash is such a bizarre movie. It wouldn’t rate in my own personal list. I didn’t find it disturbing just weird.
