Got my start in DIY with your Burt’s bees dupe. Your latest videos have really upped my DIY game. I love the idea of making my own skincare to fit my skin needs.
You are very very wonderful and I love your work very much. Please, make us a triple mixture of the following acids: salicylic acid, glycolic, glycolic acid, lactic acid, to exfoliate the knees, elbows and body without causing the skin. Thank you
I have to admit I thought you could just put a bit of salicylic acid powder in any carrier oil…and I can afford to buy a commercial formulation, but it’s the packaging you have to buy with it over and over. Thank you for this video 🤗
There's also squalane derived from bioengineered yeast that've been fed sugarcane. That's probably cheaper these days, and is chemically identical to squalane from olives.
Today I made this serum and it is wonderful! Thank you! And then I was thinking od adding a little bit of blue tansy oil just for the color, but then no, it is good as it is and I dont know how.the oil will go with salicylic... I love formulating and watching videos how to formulate! Thnx again! All.the best!
I wonder if you can’t substitute it with propanediol 1.3 or methylpropanediol. These two ingredients also solubise salicylic acid. But then it wouldn’t be this serum cause this one is an “oil” serum
Hi Marie, I love your fórmulas and I got your book which is fantastic!! My makeup is all natural now, my skin thanks you so much for it! I always have trouble with the liquid/powder forms of products. My salicylic acid is liquid, how can I make this product with it?? Thousands of thanks, dear!!
Thank you for making DIYing so easy for home use, I'm no longer reluctant to touch certain formulas without having a pH meter at this time. It's thanks to formulas like this one & the simple vitamin C serum that I can now safely incorporate salicylic acid, niacinamide, & vitamin C in my DIY & my routine without purchasing special equipment. I can't tell you how awesome that is As a riff on this formula & another one, I wanted to see if I could use Cromollient SCE to solubilize salicylic acid, but I can't seem to find data on how much I would need. Does anyone know where I could find out?
I just realized Cromollient SCE is recommended as a solubilizer for fragrances & such, not necessarily more stubborn ingredients. I guess I'll just stick with the octyldodecanol & use the Cromollient SCE for another function in this formula (luxurious feeling rinse off)
@@HumblebeeAndMethis is honestly the best facial oil I've discovered this year. I love the moisturizing benefits of it. It feels gorgeous on skin. I've included 20% retinol 1 % facial oil serum (Revolution) & ~10% rosehip & seabuckthorn & seaweed infused carotenoid oil in some batches. Also, I replaced part of the squalane with unrefined hemp and primrose oils in other batch. Both worked well. As those carrier oils are a bit richer I used isoamyl laurate + squalane to make them a bit lighter. I still prefer the original one. Salicylic Acid Solution is also my favourite serum - my scalp, back and oily t-zone love it!
I just got some mandelic acid and every time I try looking up how to formulate with it all that pops up is the ordinary mandelic acid serum. I was hoping I would find something you've done with it
Nothing I've found that's suitable for cosmetics, no-but you don't need a 100% solvent to work with salicylic acid, especially with a maximum usage of 2% :)
It very soluble in pure propylene glycol - 25g in 100ml. And also pure ethanol - 20g in 100ml. But if you add water - the solubility dramatically decreases. Example: 100ml mixture of PG and water (1:1 ratio) dissolves only 2% acid. So I guess for your scalp exfoliation you can take pure propylene glycol and dissolve salicylic acid in it. You don't even need a preservative since no water is used. Note: the maximum usage in skincare is 2% according to FDA. More - the product considered as a drug. (For myself I use not more than 2% in leave-on formulas and no more than 5% in wash-off formulas)

❤️ I'm so thrilled to hear it! Thanks for DIYing with me, and happy making :)
Oh this is awesome! I love that you're being inspired by popular formulas in the market!

I'll keep it in mind-thanks for the suggestion!
I just shared a lactic acid solution!

Great to see your formulation really interested to look out in blog post. Amazing video
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️

Yes, that's lovely as well! You could definitely use it instead if you wanted to :)
I rarely comment but you are looking really radiant hun! I hope you're doing well :)
Thank you so much! ❤️

Omg!!!this formula 😭❤️
❤️
Woah this is a good one!! I always love your serum and cleanser formulations.. can't wait to try 😍
Hope you like it!
Love this video.....so helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Any one in Australia know where we can obtain octyldodecanol? I've had a good look but can't find it here and Marie recommends not to substitute it.

I'm afraid I don't know of anywhere, Phat Wombat.
@Joy: Compare solubilities + ability to solubilize to see why you can't :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe Solubilise with what ?
Oooh, this is giving me an idea... SA in a cleansing balm!
Yes! All the possibilities!
may be it irritates eye area
@@aparna_app Oh I suppose it might. I don't wear makeup though so I don't normally use cleansers on my eyes, just water.
Would isopropyl myristate work as solvant for salicylic acid ?

please make a video how to identify nicinamide powder thanks
Marie I've stumbled upon an interesting oil.. actifcol I get home ill check spelling. Seems rather interesting. I gotta figure how I'm gonna use it
have you made a water based serum? I cannot for the life of me find a recipe like that :D

hello! if i wanted to add niacinamide to this solution, would i add it to the salicylic acid and octyldodecanol heated phase?
I cannot thank you enough x
Can we add hyaluronic acid @0.1 g. By reducing the % of bisabol to 0.1g.??
Oh wow, this is fabulous!
😄

U are brilliant
Thanks alot 😘😘😘
Thank you so much! ❤️
Can we add other powders in? Such as maybe chamomile powder or maybe even clays?
I would not add anything that won't dissolve in the base; both of the options you've mentioned are insoluble and would settle out + be gritty :(
Sold my 1st conditioner.. got my pump bottles in. And some jars
Omg love this thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! ❤️
Can it help cure bumps on intimate part?
Can i use for pimples
thanks for ur efforts
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing.
I'm guessing this is not water based
Can you please do a water based acne banishing serum¿?
Can we use proplyne glycol as a solvent here?
No; propylene glycol is water soluble and will not mix with this formulation.
So there is nothing in which this dissolves 100%? I would love to use this as a chemical scalp exfoliation.

@@fareloz thank you. I may try ethanol.
can you make a DIY ascorbic acid 10% serum stable
Very cool, can we add the amount of salicylic to exfoliate the knees and can we dispense with chamomile extract
You'll find the answer to your questions in the blog post that's linked in the description box below the video :)
witch is the ph level for this product
It's anhydrous, so pH does not apply.
Substitutes?
As always, substitutions are covered in the blog post encyclopedia entry for the ingredient. Please read them!
Ok my niece could really use this love this wonderful she was just talking to me about her pores how bad they are and here we are thank you so much
Is this formulation in your book?
No; I don't give away the formulations in my book for free :)
