I read the summary of this book on Littler Books and thought some of the advice are very questionable. Would anyone actually want to interact with someone who "get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit", or "use selective honesty and generosity to disarm their victims"? Thoughts?

Thank you for the 48 Laws of Power. I am 72 years old. I don’t have a relationship with my family. I worried about who would help me if I fell ill. For over a year, I had nightmares of horrible things happening to me as I aged. I reread the 48 Laws of Power 2 months ago hoping for wisdom. I fell ill last month. My doctor failed to find the cause of my illness. The next day after the doctor visit, I lay in bed feeling sick when I remembered 2 laws: enter with boldness (36) and be formless (48). I opened my laptop and sent gift cards to people I knew and ignored the advice of my mental health counselor who told me that they may question my motives. Within minutes I felt well. My friends never questioned my motives and were happy I reached out. I terminated the services of my counselor. I decided I am going to face my future with boldness and be formless. Now I sleep soundly with no nightmares.

When he mentioned, "Whether I'm correct or mistaken, regardless of the market's fluctuations, it doesn't affect me," I found it perplexing. Many individuals are experiencing significant financial losses in the current environment. Personally, I've been investing in stocks since the beginning of the year, yet my situation hasn't improved. Meanwhile, I've come across stories of people who are still in the same market but have managed to make over $350,000 in just a few months. It's a challenging situation out here!

i am one of those rare people who don't chase power. i don't like to give orders, but i really hate taking them. greene's work helps me to find that sweet spot in between the lions and the sheep. kind of like a honey badger, or a skunk: not antagonistic, not a victim and if you leave them alone it will all be cool. i am happier than i have been since i was a little kid and filled with a sense of freedom and potential. as always, thanks.

“A lot of this is not about using these laws. A lot of this is about defence.” When I first listened to this audiobook my impressions of it was “this is a self-help book for sociopaths”. Perhaps it may have framed these lessons better. Instead of saying “this is what you should do” on certain chapters such as Crush Your Enemies the lesson could have been “Your Enemies will try to Crush You. Here’s what to Watch For.” This is how, as I remember Robert Greene framed his lessons in the superb Laws of Human Nature. Regardless how you feel about 48 Laws of Power The Laws of Human Nature is a must read. Also check out Mastery. While I have mixed feelings about 48 Laws, it has been 8 years since I listened to it and would be open to revisiting it. Also, congratulations on your recovery from your stroke, Mr. Greene.

This book does one of two things... 1) It gives the confused egomaniac a blueprint to so-called 'power'. 2) Coincidently, this book can help identify individuals that would apply these practices in certain aspects of life. You can observe the lessons in this book in areas like prison, organized crime, business, and government.

I'm halfway through the audiobook now & I've been listening to it on Audible & it's truly been eye-opening and at times even disturbing to come to grips with the brutal tactics of people. At the same time, it's been very insightful to understand the true nature of human beings. It's worth reading/listening to as it does prepare you for the real world so you can navigate it properly and with the right perspective.
Thanks for the information Mr. Greene, your work has been very helpful and I look forward to learning more from you catalog.

Some power game has been getting me for so long, probably because I was raised in the Middle East, where the saying, “the tree was much fruit that bows low.”
Oh, although I’m some of the selfish person, I am a Christian and try to do on to others as I would answer myself. But I find that sometimes in doing so with people - even family members with more money it almost seems like they think they’re more powerful and then I have to check myself and not do anything for them even the ones who tend to do more for others. It actually gets difficult because for example, if a sibling asked me to carry a dog crate and they’re carrying 1 million other things , I actually start thinking they’re not even asking me nicely like it’s me can you please it’s just like can you carry the crate and like I would never do that to them I would actually never ask anyone unless I was really dead so then I find myself not wanting to do it cause I’m feeling like their worker and that’s not what I am and I’m not signing up for more of the sameespecially coming from a background where you end up looking codependent because you do want others what you have done to yourself and I know all the power rules but it is amazing how hard this is to actually do in real life

I heard about this book yesterday! I watched a video detailing every law last night. And today I find that the author has dimerised the book 3 days ago! I felt like I already live by these laws! Maybe 40 out of the 48 are just my personality anyway! Started thinking maybe I’m a psychopath lol.. but I feel like I win in life the only difference is my power resides at the bottom! I am the top of the bottom and I’m happy with it. I seem to get what I want when I need it and I’ve always felt like the universe favours me above all.. they call me king Henry

I read this back in the early '00s. It was instrumental in helping me navigate corporate politics. Before reading this I was blissfully naive, but constantly frustrated and confused by people in management. Corporate politics are full of delicate egos and precariously balanced positions of power. I am extremely grateful for this book and its help in my career. Thank you, Robert Green!

The 48 Laws of Power is actually my 2nd Bible, I've read it more times than I can remember. Whenever I find myself making 'moronic blunders' I go back to reread the book. In 2017, I distilled 48 Sonnets of Power (unpublished) from the 48 Laws. Thank you Robert Greene for the role you play in my life, I would've been lost in this wide wild world without your guide.

What is frightening is the manipulators to whom it comes naturally and I believe that is actually most people. The book simply enables you to be more cautious and guarded thereby protecting and advancing yourself more effectively.

This book is amazing to be honest. And it truly made me see a whole new layer of reality. I can deduce and predict situations, I can see who people actually are instead of believing the mask they give to the world - you're able to see behind the mask. Similar to Dantes from Count of Monte Christo who had to deduce what happened to him - who betrayed him, how did he end up in prison. And there are many moments like this in our life, and this book - 48 Laws of Power - gives you the tools to see who are the enemies in your life pretending to be your friends, and because you're able to recognize them, you're less likely to get backstabbed by them.

I’ve seen a lot of people call the book “evil” and that’s just crazy. I’m a devout Christian and find this book most valuable and not a shred of “evil” in it. What it does, is speak directly toward human nature and makes you more aware. For those that are more on the religious end it will absolutely help you guide through life in a way that will foster success while also keeping your values and morales (whatever those may be) as your guardrails.
I love the book because it’s direct and objective and then you can figure out how to apply it to your own life.
It’s not “an evil book that teaches you to do bad things”. It’s data, explained well and you apply it how you see fit.

Yeah, it's like reading inside of the Devil's heart and knowing exactly how all the bad thing on Earth could happen and being able to prevent them cuz you know how they exactly work. The most important thing is to use the advices of this book for your own sake and avoid all the abuses in society because of it.

First I was afraid of even listening to this book…because malignant narcissist I met did almost everything described in this book to seduce me. I was frightened when I found out that such book exists. I was worried if people are going to use this book as their guidebook to do bad things… and overpower victims. However I realized that it is important to see the World as it is. The shadow part of the World is not outside of me. We are all connected to it. We have to face it so we can transcend it to something better… we have to know ourselves And know our enemies in order to win… life, individually. Thank you for providing your years of experience and wisdom Roberts! I will use it to navigate this World so I don’t get deceived.

Personally I'm not a fan of using power to benefit myself but I understand that it isn't the game others play either subconsciously or Consciously.
The book has helped me understand WHEN someone is using power so that I may plan/strategize accordingly.
When he says "this is defense" is certainly hitting the nail on the head.
As a result, I've made good friend with distance. And enemies whom need more distance.
    We love Robert Green.

The problem is that when these laws are not applied properly and appropriately especially by the right individuals then they can be very dangerous because for example when one of those laws that you just spoke of was enacted by my own father in keeping us dependent on him well then he did us a disservice by delaying our growth and are Independence and are Reliance on ourselves and in a sense we grew to hate him for it or maybe hate is rather a strong word but resent him for it

Just manipulating with power.
