      You'd be better served to follow his advice in the Laws of Human Nature. Power isn't everything and chasing it will corrupt you.... but do review it so you can keep yourself aware of the traps others will employ.

    By following a few of those "rules" in the book, I managed to elevate my career to the next level and next few levels within years, which I couldn't do so in the decade before. Of course, however, one must be able to understand the true gists of those rules & apply them appropriately and flexibility to different situations.

      Imo the biggest lesson to learn from this is about politics. I was also duped by the bs “hard work gets you anywhere”, worked my ass off and kept getting burned by it. Not only can bosses be threatened, but coworkers too which are even worse as they’ll directly destroy your reputation simply because they don’t like you. Their personal emotions matter more than the success of the business. So do your best to dumb yourself down to please others, virtuous-ness is almost always punished. Misery loves company.

    A lot of people hate this book because it's too "evil" and full of manipulation. However, who says you have to be evil? Harsh reality, but the world is pretty cruel and not the easiest place to survive in every single day. This book will help you catch people right away when they're being manipulative, gaslighting you, using you, etc. As long as you learn and understand the lessons in this book, you'll better understand human and society. You don't need to be a pro manipulator just be careful!!

      Robert Greene and his views of power have helped me tremendously. I used to avoid the power games because I looked at them as an evil mental conditioning of the mind that stems from western society, or even organized society. I always looked at people who live in the wilderness as the ideal way to live because they don't seem to have to repress their emotions. Also I don't think jealousy is even a thing to them.
      With that said, in the modern world we are stuck in a civilized society so you have to learn these power tools or you will end up isolated and blaming everyone for your problems like I was doing. Now that I view power in a positive light I feel so much more empowered in my life which has helped me keep my head up high. Thank you Robert Greene.

Power is a tool for our day to day life if you take a overdose will effefect as Mr. Robert says in his book. In Buddhisim we say " Upadhanaya" will lead to disaster. One will become blind we have solid evidance .last two decades world leaders Sri Lankan politicients etc. Be solo some time and see things as they are. You will free from attachment. Thank you for bringing these problems into the light. I felt the same way through my career. I have had many jobs in different ares but for 30 years I was in social services and in a government job where the people are gentle and no one would get more money for stabbing others in the back. Still, some people could not stand seeing anyone shine at anything. There are some people who are naturally so aggressive they would absorb their twins in the womb if they could. Unfortunately some times those people become bosses and ruin everything, by only caring about power and control for themselves.

    At first I thought it was Barry was Robert because of how much he speaking, and I was not expecting him to look like that. Then I realized I was wrong and it made more sense. Although Barry talked a lot, I am happy for his passion into this. Although not good as an interviewer, it’s great to see a human with passion. I saw in a reply that you do solo shows. That’s where the talking all can stay, but with a guest, you control the interview by asking short questions and let them express themselves, for they traveled all this way to get here. I know this is years old and that I’m not an interviewer so who am I to talk, but it seems the comments are on my side on this. Like for Barry

    • @BarryKibrickOfficial
      @BarryKibrickOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trinifinite, Yes, it is why I do solo episodes now, however if you watch closely you'll see that I never ask questions. That's why Robert's been a guest on my show for everyone of his books. What I do is pull the information from the book and then let my guest elaborate and go deeper into the subject. It's a true conversation rather than an interview and that's why more of the deeper topics come to the forefront. If you just ask questions you'll just get the answers that are already in the book. When you deeply read the book you then can go further into the most important aspects. Thanks for taking the time to comment and hope you'll check out many other episodes, Barry

      Your style creates a more engaging interview.....with interesting insights.
      It's refreshing when an interviewer demonstrates a profound knowledge and understanding of said book, topic, issue etc.... This challenges the interviewee to dig deeper, instead of regurgitation what's already stated in the book.

      Cesar Rodriguez i now can make things go my way through seduction, charm, understanding laws of power. etc... i am able to create love life like that of a movie, i undertand people more deeply. i have become less self absorbed. i try to get inside another perosn skin, i am good at reading people/women and what they want. i also know we humans have dark side and we suffer from envy, ego, etc and how to see it in other people and in myself, how to protect myself from other people, my friends, etc but not take everything personally because we all have it. i have become a psychologist. also i have understood about how to become a master in my field and now i don't listen to my parents or greed about money, but becoming a master.. cant thank my messiah robert greene enough. he is god to me, completly changed my life.

    I think Barry you have a good point when you mentioned that some of the points in Robert’s book is in contradiction with what the major self-help book would provide. And a lot of the wisdom is counterintuitive. Like the understanding of genuine quality and honesty.

      @kidbrown2010 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Exactly. In reading reviews of this book, this is the number 1 misconception people have. Power can be Nelson Mandela or it can be Hitler. Power can be used to enrich a nation or to starve a nation. The laws spotted in this book are sometimes done so under nefarious framing, but they are not inherently only for nefarious purposes. You can use them as you please.

      I think this book is best used as a means of understanding the power dynamics and protecting oneself. But unfortunately, some misunderstand and will try to use deception without restraint and probably will end up like Cesare Borgia.

      There are multiple repeats of the phrases "your mark", "your victim", and "your trap" in this book. It is pure evil. I'm sure it was not on Nelson Mandela's bookshelf and were it available, it would have been on Adolf Hitler's.

    What I learned is that when people piss you off. It really is "their fault" as in they participated in it. However, giving them the responsibility of having to change takes away your power to influence it. I learned to just cut off people that I do not have similar values with. I personally can't hangout with sloppy people who do not value taking care of themselves etc. People are going to be the way there are the sooner I cut them off the better.
