Hey man, I was wondering that since you said that you were open to suggestions on what the next video should be, perhaps you should make it about Scaretheater’s lost video from his second channel and more specifically, the minecraft semi Arg series he made called “Casey’s Cave Entry”.
Hey, can you put the link to find that rom hack making site? I wanna play some rom hacks.
Wait, You said marao multiple times.

Some kid: makes a bad arg on a whim
The entire creepy internet: _this shit is THE shit_
the name even sounds like it's by some kid
the guy actually revealed he was a kid when he made it, lol
Yep.
Hey, he can only get better. And this is honestly a lot more effort than I would put into, anything. So good for him
Didn't mean it was a bad arg, what I meant was that it wasn't thought out and was lackluster. idk if that even means a difference.@@moosenman
I still laugh at the fact that the creator finally came out and was like "yeah i made this shit in middle school idek what i was planning lmao"
Lmao
It was an honor to help with the solving of this ARG.
Thats pretty cool! You made history 😅
You are a true hero for helping this arg, you a Legend :)
I must ask: Are your username and PFP based off of jacknjellify?
This really gives me the vibe of some teen uploaded a creepy hack and it just got waaay more popular than they expected. I'm betting they got caught up in all the attention and wanted to keep the ball rolling but didn't really know how to do so properly so they borrowed material and just kinda winged it.
I wonder after all these years how they look back at the situation.
Yeah, based on the conversation I had with him you're pretty much on the money.
Maybe he got better with storytelling over time. :)
As someone who only heard the Creepypasta that covered the first hack, it was surreal finally seeing the text for "Victim #2." I know that the creator was just winging it and had no plan or even a real desire to keep making something creepy out of this, but it would've been really cool if they continued and there were more autopsy reports that built onto a story. If nothing else, it makes me want to make a similar story/experience.
Anyone else remember the "I Hate You" fangame someone made to replicate the look of SMW and at two different points of the game (first touching a weird-looking mushroom, and at the very end before crashing) it'd flash a bunch of popular/famous spooky images with a jumpscare?
yeah
I remember there was two separate versions of it, rom hack and a pc version of it.
@@legospartan3.042 Yeah, the rom hack of the actual SMW just kills you when you touch the same mushroom, from what I recall. The latter is probably what I'm thinking of.
i feel like i remember one of those images being smile dog
@@seekerstheshy3842holy shit bro smile dog? I haven't thought of that goofy ass image in years
You know, I think the romhacker had talent. The fact they did the later stuff like spectrogram, the reverse audio message, text files that lead to images, knowing how to mod the more complex stuff for a super mario rom hack. That all could have made for a very well made creepypasta game if the original is viewed as a type of prototype. The problem with the later spooky stuff was simply presentation.
I know the victim #1 image is obviously some edited photo of a character from a show or a something but I still get butterflies in my stomach when I see it
It looks like the green Sesame Street puppet to me
I.. i dont think "butterflies in your stomach" is the expression you look for
@@MarcyTheKindaCoolWizard yes it is? butterflies in your stomach just means that feeling you get in your stomach when you’re really nervous.
Well..its a edited photo of a cosplayer.
Idk about you, but "butterflies in your stomach" is usually said when you're romantically interested in someone, like nervous about meeting your crush. Like you have a crush on the creepy image and nervous about asking it out on a date xD
It is hilarious how days later after this video the origin of the image was found, even the perfect clean image
Okay, if the rom had a story, the empty cave like part with the blocks saying "Time?" Could mean (from my perspective) that mario has spent so much time wandering that he has trouble even knowing what time it is, perhaps even understanding it due to there being no sun light to indicate even the slightest amount of time.
So lost in his own mental insanity and isolation he lost track of reality and time
Kinda like Spongebob in that one episode!
Could the "time?" be reference to a game from Action 52, in which whenever you killed an enemy a small message saying "Time?" would momentarily appear in the same manner as a points counter popup.
maybe cave would be the victims 2 perspective, being lost in a abandoned apartment.
It's so cool to see somebody go in depth on these SNES rom hacks!
Hopefully MOTHER: Rebound may receive the same treatment someday.
I've never heard of Mother rebound, but if it has anywhere near the amount of depth/involvement that this one has, then I'm open to looking into it. :)
I’d argue “Jeff the killer” is the most popular creepypasta image
Dude, your channel is CRIMINALLY underrated! I never even knew about this ARG, but I've seen the image before, what a crazy story.
I was honestly expecting some big thing to happen on the transmission date that totally transformed the creepypasta, or would be some big revelation, but my man just ended up forgetting abt it lol
28:00 it looks like a heavily edited image of the Joker in the Killing Joke comic
Not really, I don’t see the “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA” (that is too many “HA-HA”s)
I love that the Liquid Chris video just leads to an mlp reference lmao. Makes me wanna do something similar just to fuck around with people.
I'm reading this, I haven't been invested in whatever you may or may not have made, and I'm already upset.
This may be an odd compliment, but I really like your voice! A big thing for me in longer analysis or such videos like this is the person's tone and inflection, and usually with creepier videos, people try and make their voice sound super deep and raspy and scary. It's always bugged me! You have a very nice voice and it sounds like you're actually speaking to us and telling us a story, I cant believe you have so little subscribers! I hope for only the best of algorithm luck for you
Voices like his are perfect for content like this, kupo!
-Semas Boreal, Human/Moogle Alchemist
His voice kinda reminds me of cyber shell for some reason lol
I would love to see more content like this. Just breaking down args or creepypasta stories, even if we dont have all the answers yet. This was awesome even if the final answer wasnt what most wanted. Keep up the good work man!
I just want to say that your voice fits so perfectly for the commentary on this particular subject. It makes watching this whole video feel more special in an eerie way, especially when watching it in the dark. I had no idea that there was more to this story outside the original romhack. It was a very interesting watch!
that midnight krick guy you mentioned at the end of the video sounds really cool. i think i'll go subscribe to him.
yeah i know
Mostly just commenting for the algorithm, but...
At first I was a little disappointed to learn that there isn't really any deeper meaning behind the messages in the hack, and it's just for spooky atmosphere, but hearing the explanation behind the idea made me think. Ultimately I do think it was successful. The creator was right in how it's definitely possible to lean so much into the mystery angle that you forget to be scary, and it ultimately becomes all about piecing every clue together and not about the atmosphere anymore, and that can be a shame.
I'll definitely remember this story the next time I see something outwardly spooky that turns out not to have much depth behind it. Maybe that's okay. If your initial experience draws you in, maybe that was all that was really important. It's easy to want everything to be...well, everything; some grand mystery with tons of rabbit holes leading to some expansive lore, while also maintaining impeccable atmosphere and touching on a wide ranch of subjects...and that would be incredible, but it's not very likely to actually happen, and it's important to appreciate when something small does something well, too.
28:11 This image was done in garrys mod. You can weirdly it was made by the source engine.
Yeah, it has that telltale Source look
This is probably the best video on this site regarding this particular subject! Awesome work!
I'd definitely be interested in seeing a video about 'the (if you would be interesting in covering it, of course).
There still isn't a video on youtube covering the game in full detail, I feel! Especially when comparing it to some blog posts written about it online, like Dictor's Blog and such. I even tried opening it in Lunar Magic myself, to see if could find the very same things written in the blog. I did not have too much luck in that front, because I never used that program before, heh.
Though I do recall finding a secret message in the drowning level by doing so?
I would definitely be interested in looking at ‘the. I haven’t actually played the hack myself yet (despite the fact that most of the hack’s creators have been buddies of mine for years), so I’d be starting from scratch on that, but I think it could be really fun!
It's an incredibly unnerving experience for sure. Very mysterious too!
if there’s one thing I can take away from this, is that really anyone can make anything. I mean the creator was a teenager at the time and it blew up the way it did is kinda crazy. Like it makes me want to give a try at rom hacking. sure, nothing came from this at the end and it was all just a silly joke poking the fun at the video game creepypasta tropes, but the creator sought out to do the thing they wanted (make fun of video game creepypasta impossibilities) and they succeeded! (a very real example of ‘lightning caught in a bottle moment!’)
That’s a great takeaway. And if you want even more motivational fuel, take this tidbit: The website all this came from (SMW Central) has been one of the hugest ROM hacking forums ever since it first went live in 2005 - and it was created entirely from scratch by a lone kid who was 15 at the time.
Crazy stuff.
I think this is a very good video. You have an effective writing, editing, and presentation style, and your voice and delivery are both very good as well. I think that you have skill as you currently stand, and much potential for future development.
in the Morse code about Yvette i noticed the capital letters say "He is not here"
i am kinda glad this has such a peaceful conclusion
Hey, just wanted to say I _super_ appreciate how thoroughly you investigated this, in case you happen to read comments. Some genuine detective business there. I, for one, found the full story to be very satisfying, even if it loses the creepy factor. Thanks for the conclusion.
Thanks! I appreciate your appreciation of the effort; I hate to see it when popular stories aren't covered in full detail, so my goal is to rectify that with as many internet mysteries as possible.
And yes, I read all comments :)
I hate this redface for some reason this is the only creepypasta image that genuinely scares me
Damn, just realized that you're the same person who made the comment making some corrections under Hey Peter's video. Honestly I really like your video a whole lot better than theirs, it's definitely a lot more palatable
Even though I was into a bunch of creepypastas like it as a kid, I only recently learned about this one from the image being part of the plot of Chainmail Chasers (which is a great horror series that plays with old internet pictures and stories.)
Getting to see it all laid out like this is really interesting. I do really like the sense of unease the first hack gives, there’s never quite a moment where you get that release, that sense of knowing what it all means. Past that, it’s a pretty understandable case of a kid not knowing what to do with attention. I can’t exactly blame them. Great documentation, really enjoyable video.
0:47 aww man who got a picture of me when I haven’t had my coffee
Thank you for covering stuff like this, I love rom creepy-pastas, especially smw ones. You are truly a diamond in the rough, thank you
Honestly pretty damn cool for something that was originally made when he was a kid
Edit: 25:08 the capital letters say “HE NOT HERE” probably meaning “HE’s NOT HERE”
This was really cool, I had never heard of this, thank you for making this!
I hope this channels blows up. This was some in depth content!
It was awesome revisiting a favorite spooky story of mine from my younger years. I feel a sense of closure now 😅
Always A1 content from K.T.B. Very well done!
Loved this analysis, I had noo idea how relevant the dev's account was. It's too bad how it wound up, but I always had this unsettled sense in my stomach that there was even more to this hack than my lazy googling was letting on. Still, I'd rather know the truth than be left constantly wondering if there was more. You know?
Curious if you have any plans to do an analysis in this format of Shipwrecked 64? I know there are a lot of videos up already, and it's more of an ARG than just a creepypasta, but I really love your chill tone and vibe, your fact-finding, and your particular biases. c: Either way I am eager for more and excited to see what's next to aid me while I work and sleep c:
There's been a tonne of creepypasta retrospectives popping up lately but I always learn something new from watching your vids
Thanks! That’s exactly what I aim for :)
ah yeah, I found you by that Peter dude. hope you continue making some stuff, I would most likely watch it. 👍
Oh man this video is fire 🔥 you deserve a lot more Subscribers because your voice sounds awsome and fits in the explaining args voices if you know what i mean. Still this is awesome
Victim #1's been found btw
nice video man! havent heard about this hack in years and i only knew about the first bit with the red face so this was cool
Dude really just trolled everyone
The image that appears at 28:02 looks to me like the old Doom 3 title screen/logo graphic (the icon of sin/demon head in a pentagram) just heavily edited and deformed through photoshop.
19:36
WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87?!
Great video; earned a sub. Can't wait to see what you're doing going forward!
wonderful video, i throughly enjoyed it as my aunt also listened along in utter confusion
As angsty as the creepy pasta and story is.. That damn face, that one image of "Victim number 1" .. still lowkey creeps me out tbh
Good video, I listen to this while sleeping, can't remember any of the video details but I fell asleep nicely. I'll keep trying until I can remember the video upon awakening.
I’m so flattered that people are listening to my videos that way! I often do the exact same thing as you; I listen to videos while falling asleep, but when I wake up I only remember the first two minutes. So I keep inching further and further through the video until I’ve finally finished it after like a month.
Subscribed before 800, I can see this channel getting big.
12:55 This is indeed what Victim 1 looks like very disturbing.
Wow, thanks for piecing together the whole thing! Honestly, i think that the images and "victim number #" messages are signs that this was made after people died from... something
Really great content I hope you do more horror content in the future.
I forgot to comment, but the final answer towards this ARG is actually quite nice, and kinda funny af
Edited it cause my keyboard went wacky
I love how this dude actually covers the whole thing. they actually do research. unlike other analysis youtubers that just read off texts and say "ooo look how spooky this is" and end the video
As someone who was enveloped in this hack as a kid this video was crazy left n right. Very good video
Honestly I'm happy the story of M A R I O and everything around it went the way it did, because as I like to think of it, Horror is only scary if you don't know what's going on, And also all this went way beyond what I think it had, I feel like if there was a group of people behind everything I feel it could become something even bigger and way more scarier, but honestly I'm happy with this ending lol
I disagree with the "horror is only scary if you dont know what's going on" part because i know some creepypastas (the pancake for example) that its true horror depends on the amount of knowledge you get out of a situlation that makes it terrifying
14:35 & don't forget spicycrap666's reading of the pasta!
How do you not have more subs and likes?! This shit good
Nice video and in depth dive of the M A R I O ROM! From what I know, a TH-camr of the name HeyPeter has also gone in depth of this ROM and the ‘Victim #1’ image and other creepy stuff along with the ‘’the’ aka ‘Coronation Day’, it probably sounds weird of me though I think working together would be neat!
I've already done a video on Coronation Day, actually! In fact, Hey Peter reached out to me before he started working on his video on the hack and said that he was using my video on it as a reference for the information that he didn't know about it himself, lmao
@@KayTeeBeeOoh gotcha! It’s nice to hear and see people getting together to solve these mysteries, absolutely love ‘em! :]
I worry that as time goes on and we become more used to these things and we seemingly see everything done, we won't have another M A R I O have a chance to pop up and become popular because nobody will take it seirously and, much more horrifying to me, everyone will start comapring it to other works done before and lose interest because there is hardly (to most people) a sense of reality to it, most will be aware and tell themselves it's just another person doing some spooky things
And as a story teller myself and someone very interested in making horror content this is a terrifying idea, because if my work won't be taken seriously or giveb a chance then well... what will be the point of trying?
it's something I think about too, between this and the luna games. we may come to a point where people are just desensitized to this kind of stuff. and as such, an attempt at a new creepypasta game or project will just be nipped in the bud.
@@Ehibika Nothing we can do about it, really, it's sort of like the time around 2013-current year where everyone just got really desensitized to superhero movies, since everyone wants to do their own variation of the MARIO creepypasta, we'll just get desensitized to it too.
I'll be honest i like M A R I O's Sonic 2 title card at 34:38 with it just saying "Zone" and just saying "Sonic" he could've used that for a Sonic creepypasta itself
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t from a separate Sonic creepypasta. This was just as creepypasta was really taking off.
“From now on the arg will become less creepier”
5 minutes later: *proceeds to play demonic sounds pulled from hell itself into my ears*
One day I went to get a mushroom as usual but something terrible happened.. a burger came out instead of a mushroom and the burger turned red and said "EAT ME"
Best creepypasta to ever pasta.

@@KayTeeBeeI’m pretty sure this comment is a slightly altered version of a joke from a video by the TH-camr SpaceHampster which happened to mention the MARIO rom hack (the video is just called “Creepy Mario Games”. It’s not hard to find, it’s his most viewed video)
At 5:40, already better than the 'other' video on this topic

25:08 Not sure if that's been said but reading only the caps letters says "HE IS NOT HERE"
Dunno if there's more to that.
Your profile pic / username are extremely familiar. Did you used to comment a lot on videos from Marble Hornets and/or Retsupurae?
And yeah, the "HES NOT HERE" thing is interesting. I think it's more of the guy trying to keep the spook up with random messages.
Hello thanks for the reply, just got to this channel and loving it already. To the question: I was and probably still am a huge retsupurae fan and I engaged with their videos a lot via the comments back when they still made them. Marble Hornets series probably not so much, I did watch that but much later after it was at its peak .
I'm surprised nothing about 'the (coronation) has shown up in the video yet.
If anything, that's the unsolved creepypasta ROM hack.
(Edit: not two videos down the recommended is a recent video of such ROM hack. Off to watch that, I guess.)
I didn't talk a lot about Coronation Day in this video because that came out years after this one did. I do mention it as a spiritual successor, though!
When I clicked on this I was still inside the YT video player so I couldn't see any of the statistics on the video, after finishing it and exiting to check the comments, my jaw dropped at how low the view count was.
lets go (i no longer have to sleep worrying tonight about the meanings when it is solved!!)
I think it would be amazing if there was a remake or new Mario World romhack based on the first interpretation of the story. Because it really did feel planned out at first, even if it was all coincidence. A remake could expand on it too, adding its own creepy elements. Only thing that should be different is to keep the mystery, don't reveal too much, let people wonder and speculate
here after victim #1's source image was found!
it was FOUND?!

Yeah, I looked through the site while working on this video to see if I could find anything there that matched the descriptions of the missing files (or if there was just anything on the site worth noting / connecting to the MARIO pasta). Nothing really caught my attention.
@@KayTeeBee Ah, so it was more or less just "ooh this site is well known to be full of weird stuff, let's do this." Sucks there wasn't some more allusion to that. @@TheInunah Agreed. Honestly, I'm seriously considering making a video just about that site.
46:45 This is exactly what I feel about that one popular creepy youtube video where it's a recording of a dude with a flashlight and he points up to show hands appearing from the ceiling.
That creeped me out for so long that it was stuck in the back of my mind. Till it was in a top list video or something and showed the full video. at the end, it showed a hand demon or some shit and completely ruined the spookiness

Tale of MARIO:
I think the creator of the original Mario game had a happy life, but then his niece Catherine whom was 13 years old, was found dead, from the wrong medication, her face was found Stained purple, which made him go crazy, he then died missing, it means Mario.WAV is actually the distorted face of the man, and Luigi.WAV was when he died, (which was censored by K.T.B.) and Hello.WAV was another distorted image of the same Super Mario World creator from Mario.WAV.

Why the fvck am I watching this at 1 in the morning?
At 28:11, that looks like a garry’s mod map made in hammer by a beginner.. Im saying this because i recognize the textures and i usually see the corners that are usually like that on buildings. It’s most likely that it is a garry’s mod hammer map because of the trees.

i was part of that and i never saw any video of it...
Like, i think the "OP" of the arg said taht he didn't want to get more people to know about it but damn, that arg was a wild ride for me when i had 17 lol

I'm pretty sure it's custom-made, the guy did tell me that a lot of the files he posted were based on Gmod maps he would make in his free time.
