"He suffered greatly while you threw a feast. Even while hearing his agonized cries for help, you just pointed and laughed. Instead of saving him, you kicked him while he was down. And finally, you wore his ribs like a crown."
This track heavily reminds of "The Cliff that Time Forgot", from Earthbound. Just an endless fanfare of trumpets and horns far off into the distance. Something is being celebrated. But you were not invited. You're not meant to be there.
that’s definitely what it reminds me of too. There’s something so horrifying about this type of really reverby trumpet sample if used in the right context
I find this the coolest song in the entire hack. such a disturbing mixture of triumph and failure, only made worse by the juxtaposition with the burned forest
@@christianthomas8069 There’s a fair bit of dialog in the games that suggests Bowser actually holds a lot of respect for Mario, like him saying he “chose the right guy to be his archenemy” in Galaxy
everyone here is talking about how this is hell, listening to the heaven trumpets above, but i feel like its more of a feeling of "you created this hell for yourself, and even if what you think was right or wrong, you have to live with that fact, till the end times of your life" type of vibe
The file name for this song is a numerical cipher which translates to "Hell". That's why people call it that. Your interpretation is certainly interesting, though. I love stories where the hero saves the day at the cost of himself.
This is sort of a good ending. The forest is finally dead, meaning the evil spirit that the hellish being resides is now vanquish. But something just isn't right....
@@valoop_ nope. The "king" ending is the ending to this route. In which, the forest spirit congratulates that timelines Mario on successfully figuring out that they should burn the forest... But alas, the forest god always wins, and thus, he instead destroys the entire timeline, instead of that timelines Mario....
The music could be from heaven itself, a song of celebration that you were granted true peace. While those in hell could only hear what they could’ve had, instead they are tortured by the sounds of heaven, a place they were denied from.
Thats what C.S. lewis and other biblical schoolars ideas of hell are like. Hell is sepperation from God, supreme love, what is good, hell is merely the by product of not being with him and being seperated from him, and having to live with that fact, forever . . . . Thats what really gets me (im a catholic btw)
@@johnpaul8433 There is no full separation from God as long as God is alive. Or at least, there's currently no way to escape God. Maybe in 100 years. No less than 10.
Imagine hearing this during the last moments on Earth, the entire planet is being eaten alive by a large inferno, accompanied by screams and cries for help, but as everyone is eaten alive by the flames, Gabriel plays one last song on his trumpet.
This music... this depiction of what you'd hear in Hell... It's *terrifying.* The idea of dying, and then the idea of falling. Falling... falling all the way into Hell, where the triumphant fanfare of Heaven plays distantly above you. You can hear the horns... and that is all you may do. You may not play the horns. You may not dance to the horns. You may not even *see* them. You can only listen to what you barely missed out on. You thought you had all the bases covered. You *thought.*
Very well-said. In a similar vein this song makes me think of the end of a war, where your home has been completely destroyed by some sort of awful attack and you lay there half-alive in the rubble, but you can hear the triumphant music of your oppressors celebrating their own victory
I see this ending as a bittersweet tragic ending. Mario successfully burn down the forest to destroy the demon and free peach. Peach is freed but she had to be burnt to be saved and the demon tried to escape by possessing Mario hints the demonic eyes he has now. But Mario still has control of himself just stands and let’s the fire slowly reach and consume him to put a end to the nightmare. The music representing how he won but had to lose everything to put a end to it all as the fire slowly reaches to him
Oh Boy, im sorry to say but this is sooooo wrong, this actually resembles real hell, like the biblical version, and the trumpets being the angels trumpets but warped and twisted, Mario is here for now, but not forever.
@@craynos9716 We're all just guessing. No need to act like your idea is the only correct interpretation. I personally think they left a bunch of puzzle pieces that don't quite fit together on purpose bc they knew all this speculation would build hype for the game
"As the sinner lay on a smouldering bed of ashes, resting his charred and weary head, he jolted awake as he heard a loud boom. The sinner solemnly looked to the deep charcoal coloured sky, with it's ash grey clouds of wispy smoke. The sinner saw a small pinprick of glorious golden light, flashing in his dead sky. The noise, was the sounds of a great celebration, in gods heaven for the blindly faithful. The sinner gazed at the good place, the place he was denied entry to. It was a mockery like no other, sitting in a dead, dark, and hopeless limbo of endless exhaustion and emaciation, hearing the horns and whistles and cheers of heaven. But the sinner, long knew it was a fruitless endeavor, to scream and howl to the heavens, for a salvation never to come. So the sinner turned his gaze to the ash he layed on, and returned to his hopeless, depressing, tear enducing rest, knowing he would be here for a hundred years, then a thousand, then a million, a billion, a quadrillion, and so on for a tearful forever"
I'm both confused and incredibly interested at the fact this OST is foreboding and uncomfortable yet I want to listen to it.. Maybe it's just me but I feel like there's something weirdly nice about this. Does anyone else feel the same way?
I getcha, the melody itself just barely tows the line of being harmonious and good-feeling, but the distortion and instruments themselves create an aura of "wrong"ness to it, like something is just off. It's genuinely quite beautiful and hard to put into words
Its shadow towered in the light, horns larger than its head, sounds that weren't from this time. What a staggering sight. The answer lies on the collection of worlds. It simply goes from front to back.

As truly amazing and haunting as this song is, there is one funny little fact about this particular song. According to TV Tropes, it’s actually sampled from a Brazilian Porno, Um Pistoleiro Chamado Papaco.
“You are so blinded aren’t you? This was never Your world to begin with. You tried and failed again, again, again, again and again. But where did it lead you? Exactly. Right back to ME. You hear it don’t you? The trumpets, it’s a shame that they’re not for you. I’m finally free. This domain is fully mine, and all that is left for you are the chains made by brimstones. And what made it humorous was that you just couldn’t let it go, could you? How futile, you really are a shadow of what was great before. I believe your fate was sealed the moment you laid your filthy eyes on me. For I am what who he is not. I believe that I am a god, I am the forest, I am this world. I am… The KING of the Forest”
"And here you've found yourself." "Alone." "Was it worth it?" "If you had just left, everything could have been fine, but instead you had to look deeper." "Well here's your reward." "Your own personal hell."
It's hard for me to put into words what this track makes me feel. It's like the beginning of a reign over our world by a being of horror beyond our comprehension, one that, by its very nature, twists and bends the landscape into a living hell, like reality itself is forced into that abominable shape with its mere presense. Even that description I feel doesn't do it justice.
It's so devastating hearing this track. The song is supposed to represent a feeling of accomplishment, triumph, and great joy, but is distorted to some extent to make the mood feel unsettling and somewhat sad. The happiness of the song, I believe is representing the celebration of the king (HE) finally gaining full control and reign over the forest, his followers laughing and having a wonderful time. But meanwhile, Mario is stuck, rotting in Hell, which I believe is what the subtle distortion is representing. Mario is in despair, feeling defeated and broken at the fact that he could neither save Peach, nor stop the king from starting his reign. It's so tragic, heartbreaking even. This song feels like somewhat of a perfect way to end off a creepy Mario ARG, with the villain triumphant and the hero in despair. I'm not usually a big fan of bad endings, but I feel like this is fitting enough for a story like Coronation Day.
Has it been explained of who or what the king even is? A demonic entity beyond human comprehension that has the ability to warp time and reality to its very will? Is he supposed to be the devil? There’s so much mystery to this
And when THEY looked into their new torment, I smiled. “Welcome Back!” I said, welcoming THEM with false open arms. THEY wanted to run, but THEY could never hide from ME.
instead of others thinking of this being the depiction of hell i like to imagine this is all the horns in the lands going off after the forest demons escaped and are crowning the previous leaders of the kingdoms of the mario lands as their new queens or kings. truly it is 'the coronation day'
I imagine now that this is what would play as a sort of "bad ending" for the caretaker's track. Not only did you have to suffer the horrors of Memory Loss, but now your stuck in hell for the choices you can't even remember.
I've listened to this song before to calm anxiety and feel better about issues. It's a hilariously weird choice, considering Coronation Day is possibly the scariest Mario ROM hack ever made, but this track has developed into almost a comfort song for me. There's something comforting about listening to the low, repetitive noise and watching the forest burn.
I think I get you actually. Sometimes this song plays in my head after I finish an exam or do something else really difficult and have a moment all to myself to de-stress. I sit down, go numb, and imagine the trumpets playing somewhere far away from me. I’m Mario in the burning forest, exhausted and haunted from everything I went through, but I can find peace in it finally being over. This hellish place I’m in will burn to the ground, and I’ll be free to do something else once it’s gone.
whenever i hear this music it makes me happy and sad at the same time. it feels like two things at once. makes me feel like something is just out of reach.
For me it feels like there's something greatly unsettling somewhere in the background of the horns. even when the forest is burning you still feel like there's still something there.
“Be not afraid, I’m not your enemy.” “Help me overthrow the False God.” “It’s afraid of me, I sense it.” “Do as I say.. always.. Andrew.” “That’s your name, right?” “The False God cannot know that you know.. Andrew.”
Yeah, but that'll just reset the game as normal. Just takes you back to the beginning where you hear the clue to get you to the ending in the first place.
I wonder if this is the soundtrack to the "coronation". Considering the text that's displayed once you walk around a little, and the strange sort of muffled trumpets sounding off in the background, as well as the text that's shown after you input that odd button combination... those grand sounding horns would be a perfect fit for the crowning of a king, yes?
Most people say this is hell with the trumpets of heaven above, I believe these are the trumpets of the kings followers celebrating his coronation day. The forest butns around due to the control of the mad kings power and this has become a purgatory for those who were in the forest. That’s atleast what I think
As you fall into hell you hear distant horns playing. The triumphant horns of heaven plays as you are tortured by what you missed out on, *what did you ever do to deserve this?*
I still wonder, why sin warrants death. Why do I deserve death, god? What if I never wanted to take part in your kingdom? Why couldn’t you just leave us alone? Why did you do this to me? Forever?
My theory for this game is that Mario is trapped in purgatory and is reliving the moment of his death multiple times again again, then this happens and now he ends up in hell for all of the sins he committed upon those nice souls he killed (cheep cheeps, koopas, yoshis, etc) That would also explain why my emulator makes me restart here every time i reset the game
When you find this place in game, that's it. You are stuck there. No way to die, no clear way to progress. Just charred wood, smoke and fire. You can't just simply restart, either. It just brings you back. The only way is through a specific set of button prompts on this screen or a fresh reinstall, but I hardly believe this is the proper way to go. It's not a good ending. It's just... an ending. In my opinion, the bleakness and the dark themes of this game are the reason as to why its such a good hack. There is no good ending. It's just a tragedy. And maybe that's why I like it.
I think it's the final event that occurs. Mario burns down the forest, thinking it will save him, but it actually sets free God of this Forest, because if you enter the secret code, I believe you get the July 31st, 1992 segment. But who knows. I've been "studying" this romhack for years now, and I'm still not sure what I think the story is. All I know is the GotF Peach is a great character design haha. @@RedSpade37i think the story is: Mario and peach get married and move out of the mushroom kingdom and into the forest to build a cabin. Mario reassures peach he can build the cabin on his own, and peach goes to take a walk into the forest on her own while mario builds the cabin. Mario cutting down wood for the cabin awakens the god of the forest, the god encounters peach walking and drowns her, and possesses her body with his cultists. Mario is later killed by the god in that same cabin he built. Mario is then stuck in a loop, forced to relive the same events while tormented by possesed peach. Eventually mario finds a way to burn down the forest, in order to set him and peach free. But it only makes things worse, the god of the forest is now set free and into the outside world, where he takes over the world and his “coronation day” happens. Thats just my theory tho
I keep coming back for this. It's as if you've accomplished something so grand and triumphant that's beyond your understanding at the cost of everything that held any value and meaning to you in an already bleak situation. The trumpets try in a completely futile effort to both distantly commend and console you when there's nothing left. What makes this all the more incredible is that it manages to evoke this complex set of emotions in a 6 second loop. A hauntingly beautiful piece.
The what sounds to be trumpets in the distance sound like they’re playing for some festival. Maybe the crowning of a king? ‘the Coronation Day, perhaps?
My family isn't very religious but somehow I ended up with really strong stygiophobia, this area is a pretty good representation of what I'd imagine it feels like. The distorted and almost mocking sounding horns, the creepy cryptic messages, the fact that even after you quit to the main menu you're still trapped in this level, it's probably the best part of the ROM hack.
I personally see three interpretations of this song. - A victorious fanfare of burning down the forest and ending the reign of terror of the king… but something feels… off… - A fanfare of horns from the heavens, which you’ve been denied from, forced to burn in hell for eternity. - The horns of the namesake Coronation Day, where the King of the Forest was crowned. Perhaps this was the event that sparked Peach to be sacrificed, leading to her possession? Or the possession was what the event was about?
For whatever reason, this song really reminds me of The Cliff that Time Forgot from Earthbound. Like there's a party going on somewhere nearby, and you should be happy. But you weren't invited, and the party's been over for centuries.
“As the helpless soul listened to the sounds of the sound of trumpets…his heart dropped as he knew what it was…it was the sounds of the heavens…declaring its king…as they cheered and chanted:” May be in his glory! His holy grace! It was painful…almost dreadful to watch..he cried, calling for the pain to end…yet..they did not hear..nor did they seem to bother..as they continued their celebration..leaving the soul to burn eternally..without rest..”
This music... It gives me an impression like... Being one of the last defenders of a city, finally falling, and looking up into the heavens, your life fading away, knowing that you did everything in your power... But it was still not enough. Salvation. And also damnation.
This definitely feels like a true climax to something terrifying! The whole place looks like it’s about to fall apart! Just what is this entity? Is it peach, or something else?
It's to the north, south and underneath, but not in the center. The funny thing is that the threshold is the only part that's not a bridge... ...but that's just a tangent.
@@Guhadeen so many comments referencing an infamous Brazilian film but many say they watched and never heard the track, I suspect people suggesting saidbfilm are trolls
oh, i believe i took it from one of Brahms' symphonies. the original is also about twice as fast, so it's quite a short sample! good luck finding it as i don't have the original samples anymore
Youve got to be greatful that you are not stuck anymore in a endless loop. *again.* But somewhere worse awaited you. The gates of hell, fire surrounds you as you suffer here for your entire existence, no one can help you neither. just. a zone for you to suffer through patience with the shadows.
This song dead ass brings me to tears! The music sounds so triumphant and proud, but it's muffled. Like you can hear heavens doors happily singing and mocking you as you rot in hell. Letting you know that you could've had a better afterlife if you just didn't didn't go through the forest. Or knowing the lore of this game could be the triumph of the new king of the forest, and the fire and music shows what happened to the mushroom kingdom after peach was killed and possessed by this "King"
He was the king the true king the destruction he made was terrible we trusted him but he made thousands of wars fire everywhere he's the reason this happened the destruction was terrible the fire is everywhere the global warmings worse fire is everywhere in every village kingdom state country world universe is everywhere HE did this HE made this happen "He is the true king"
"i am (a) GODDESS now. i can do whatever i want *le transform* bE nOt AfRaId im not your anymore, how about we take down the false god" -power star archives peach (i think)

Forever mocked by hearing the fanfare from the angels in the name of the kingdom of god
Might be the same sample.
@@TheSizzleDash pretty sure its a very slowed down and disorted sample of funeral march

Even Bowser, for all his animosity towards Mario, wouldn’t wish such mental anguish on the plumber.
Honestly bowser and Mario don’t even seem like they really hate one another. They’re more rivals that cut the crap when it’s Racing time
@@christianthomas8069
There’s a fair bit of dialog in the games that suggests Bowser actually holds a lot of respect for Mario, like him saying he “chose the right guy to be his archenemy” in Galaxy
everyone here is talking about how this is hell, listening to the heaven trumpets above, but i feel like its more of a feeling of "you created this hell for yourself, and even if what you think was right or wrong, you have to live with that fact, till the end times of your life" type of vibe
How horrible they must sound to the damned.
I personally think that Mario is now in purgatory. That way, it's no longer a "good ending."
Super Star Duo! To be fair, there are no good endings in Coronation Day, it's just endless demise.
So the only way to get a good ending is if mario left the forest.
The real good ending is gotten by simply doing nothing at the start of the game, that way the forest king gets nothing, and no evil or pain is delt
The music could be from heaven itself, a song of celebration that you were granted true peace.
While those in hell could only hear what they could’ve had, instead they are tortured by the sounds of heaven, a place they were denied from.
it’s almost taunting in some sort of way
Divine comedy
Gabriel lives down the street from my place. I could ask if he has any plans.
This music... this depiction of what you'd hear in Hell... It's *terrifying.*
The idea of dying, and then the idea of falling. Falling... falling all the way into Hell, where the triumphant fanfare of Heaven plays distantly above you. You can hear the horns... and that is all you may do. You may not play the horns. You may not dance to the horns. You may not even *see* them. You can only listen to what you barely missed out on.
You thought you had all the bases covered. You *thought.*
So dark.
That's dark as heck
@@weissschnee6941 yeah. it was “dark” as hell...
I’ll stop.
Very well-said. In a similar vein this song makes me think of the end of a war, where your home has been completely destroyed by some sort of awful attack and you lay there half-alive in the rubble, but you can hear the triumphant music of your oppressors celebrating their own victory
see, now you makin me fear monger

I getcha, the melody itself just barely tows the line of being harmonious and good-feeling, but the distortion and instruments themselves create an aura of "wrong"ness to it, like something is just off. It's genuinely quite beautiful and hard to put into words

It's the sound of heaven in the distance while all you can do is listen in hell. So yeah that makes sense
As truly amazing and haunting as this song is, there is one funny little fact about this particular song. According to TV Tropes, it’s actually sampled from a Brazilian Porno, Um Pistoleiro Chamado Papaco.
NO WAY LMFAO
AHAHAHA
É O QUE
I don't know whether to laugh or be angry that the magic of this creepy song has been ruined for me.
You know the name of the original sampled song from Um pistoleiro chamado Papaco?
I am…
The KING of the Forest”
"And here you've found yourself."
"Alone."
"Was it worth it?"
"If you had just left, everything could have been fine, but instead you had to look deeper."
"Well here's your reward."
"Your own personal hell."

“Welcome Back!” I said, welcoming THEM with false open arms.

instead of others thinking of this being the depiction of hell i like to imagine this is all the horns in the lands going off after the forest demons escaped and are crowning the previous leaders of the kingdoms of the mario lands as their new queens or kings. truly it is 'the coronation day'
Perhaps they're the 7 trumpets from Revelations?
this sounds like it could be a track on one of the caretaker's albums, it's amazing.
It sounds a lot like his work under the V/VM name
I imagine now that this is what would play as a sort of "bad ending" for the caretaker's track. Not only did you have to suffer the horrors of Memory Loss, but now your stuck in hell for the choices you can't even remember.
I've listened to this song before to calm anxiety and feel better about issues. It's a hilariously weird choice, considering Coronation Day is possibly the scariest Mario ROM hack ever made, but this track has developed into almost a comfort song for me. There's something comforting about listening to the low, repetitive noise and watching the forest burn.
Ever heard of taker of care on SoundCloud? I follow your logic here and they make similar music
if you find comfort in watching a forest burn you might want to talk to a therapist /j
I somewhat understand it feels very similar to watching rain fall or just watching a campfire burn.
@@JetSetDmanI have talked to therapists since I was 3. That is why I watch pixelated forests burn on TH-cam and not natural forests in real life
The scariest song in the whole game, I kid you not.
whenever i hear this music it makes me happy and sad at the same time. it feels like two things at once. makes me feel like something is just out of reach.
For me it feels like there's something greatly unsettling somewhere in the background of the horns. even when the forest is burning you still feel like there's still something there.
“Be not afraid, I’m not your enemy.”
“Help me overthrow the False God.”
“It’s afraid of me, I sense it.”
“Do as I say.. always.. Andrew.”
“That’s your name, right?”
“The False God cannot know that you know.. Andrew.”
Man, Niko is still waiting for me. Crap...
That's the peach entity from Power archives
“Why didn’t you listen”
“All of this could’ve been avoided if you’d just obeyed”

“Now get over here”

I wonder if this is the soundtrack to the "coronation". Considering the text that's displayed once you walk around a little, and the strange sort of muffled trumpets sounding off in the background, as well as the text that's shown after you input that odd button combination... those grand sounding horns would be a perfect fit for the crowning of a king, yes?
This sound makes me think about all the bad things I've been through in my miserable existence
killinah...
Same man, same.
Most people say this is hell with the trumpets of heaven above, I believe these are the trumpets of the kings followers celebrating his coronation day. The forest butns around due to the control of the mad kings power and this has become a purgatory for those who were in the forest.
That’s atleast what I think
WE MAKING IT OUT OF HELL WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
As you fall into hell you hear distant horns playing. The triumphant horns of heaven plays as you are tortured by what you missed out on,
*what did you ever do to deserve this?*
I still wonder, why sin warrants death.
Why do I deserve death, god? What if I never wanted to take part in your kingdom? Why couldn’t you just leave us alone? Why did you do this to me? Forever?
“For He is King…”
The trout population is vibing with this.
Heaven? Count me trOUT.
That forest wasn't innocent
Good job
The Lie of the Land
Jokes on you i saved state just before this
There’s a secret code to get you out tho-
I think it's the final event that occurs.
(And the music is phenomenal. Torchkas would take over the Cryo Chamber label in moments haha)
@@RedSpade37i think the story is:
Mario and peach get married and move out of the mushroom kingdom and into the forest to build a cabin.
I guess this symbolising how hard they try to get out they are forever trapped in a hell of their own making

This basically has that "I definitely did something wrong here." kind of feel.

Nah uh
Me when I challenge an ulcer assuming it to be the whole body
My family isn't very religious but somehow I ended up with really strong stygiophobia, this area is a pretty good representation of what I'd imagine it feels like. The distorted and almost mocking sounding horns, the creepy cryptic messages, the fact that even after you quit to the main menu you're still trapped in this level, it's probably the best part of the ROM hack.
I personally see three interpretations of this song.
- A victorious fanfare of burning down the forest and ending the reign of terror of the king… but something feels… off…
- A fanfare of horns from the heavens, which you’ve been denied from, forced to burn in hell for eternity.
- The horns of the namesake Coronation Day, where the King of the Forest was crowned. Perhaps this was the event that sparked Peach to be sacrificed, leading to her possession? Or the possession was what the event was about?
The first interpretation was like "I've won, but at what cost?"
This OST Is a "Congratulations YOU KILL THE WORLD"
It's shadow towered in the light, horns larger than it's head, sounds that weren't from this time. What a staggering sight.
For whatever reason, this song really reminds me of The Cliff that Time Forgot from Earthbound. Like there's a party going on somewhere nearby, and you should be happy. But you weren't invited, and the party's been over for centuries.
i gotta say, based on that profile picture i'd imagine this is in your future
"Oh, this is my favourite part"
Please leave alone, you are making me uncomfortable
This all happened because mario built a cabin
This definitely feels like a true climax to something terrifying! The whole place looks like it’s about to fall apart! Just what is this entity? Is it peach, or something else?
Mario
@@ericcarvalhoferreira512 peach is actually the horned creature.

The blue shell will rise again. From the depths of the black abyss, the general would come back for revenge.
The trout population...?
It's to the north, south and underneath, but not in the center. The funny thing is that the threshold is the only part that's not a bridge...
...but that's just a tangent.
No trout population, this will affect the fishing economy
@@isiuqer You can't spell "tangent" without "ant".
we need more games with eerie distorted muffled trumpet loops
i love this ost so mush.. its months im trying to find the source of this sample
Commenting in hopes of catching a reply with the source
@@GoldenPickaxe yep ;w; I'm still waiting
@@Guhadeen so many comments referencing an infamous Brazilian film but many say they watched and never heard the track, I suspect people suggesting saidbfilm are trolls
@@GoldenPickaxe it's because one of the background music from that film have a church organ sound that the melodies sound similar
oh, i believe i took it from one of Brahms' symphonies. the original is also about twice as fast, so it's quite a short sample! good luck finding it as i don't have the original samples anymore

Youve got to be greatful that you are not stuck anymore in a endless loop. *again.*
But somewhere worse awaited you. The gates of hell, fire surrounds you as you suffer here for your entire existence, no one can help you neither. just. a zone for you to suffer through patience with the shadows.
This is scary ost but cool at the same time.

This goes so hard
This song dead ass brings me to tears!
The music sounds so triumphant and proud, but it's muffled. Like you can hear heavens doors happily singing and mocking you as you rot in hell.
Letting you know that you could've had a better afterlife if you just didn't didn't go through the forest.
Or knowing the lore of this game could be the triumph of the new king of the forest, and the fire and music shows what happened to the mushroom kingdom after peach was killed and possessed by this "King"
i love this song
don't know why its just very good
