Today we are checking out the WINNING ENTRY to the SMWCentral "Quality Level" design contest! This creation is by Faro and MM102 called "My QLDC Level". This level takes place on the map of Mario World and will completely change the way you view the game!

for anyone curious, the last level is impossible. once u pass the monty swarm, there is nothing to do but hit three invisible blocks. beyond the blocks is a giant void of nothing. the bullet bills don't ever spawn either. I just uploaded a vid of my playthrough, might even start speedrunning it, it's that fun.
Is it possible to upload impossible levels?

This ROM hack is the ultimate definition of "It's about the journey, not the destination", especially with the "level" that awaits at the end of this very long path.
Honestly, a very good point; unlike said "point" in the hack. ;)
Someone is going to take this idea and make an entire game out of it. I already can see the plot: graffiti art comes to life and has to avoid shadow projectiles from the real world.

@@alaeriia01 The Pedestrian isn't quite the same thing. It's definitely similar, but the gameplay of these two ideas are distinct.
I was genuinely shocked when I heard the Pokemon X and Y boutique theme playing. That theme is so incredibly overlooked and underrated even though it plays in a location most players will visit. Also, Pokemon X was a cornerstone of my middle school years. I made so many friends because of it.
the world map transitioning into yoshi's island 1 is genuinely incredible

I think when it comes to Mario games, SMW is easily the one with the most absolutely impressive romhacking community. This rom looks so sick >w< (and the "level" of the very end is just the ultimate troll)

The sheer amount of creativity and skill is astounding, but all I can really say is HOW?!
Not surprised there's a MaGMML (Make a Good Mega Man Level) type thing for Mario.
However, I wasn't expecting to see an innovation to side-scrollers here. It's a game that swaps on the fly between top-down and side-scroller, holy crap! That's COOL!
Also love how ironic it is that the winning level is one that looks to be almost impossible to actually beat XD

This hack is still phenomenal and impressive for combining two functiionally separate parts of the game into one surprisingly cohesive puzzle-platformer.
MaGMML was inspired by MAGLX... Which is a Mario level making contest... The MaGMML host has her roots in Mario fangames/romhacks...

Masato Nakamura did not work on Sonic 3. Ice Cap Zone is likely from MJ and/or Brad Buxer, who's band did Hard Times

This whole rom hack is a fever dream, like some sort of WORLDS HARDEST GAME puzzle attack mixed with some classic mario world fun, truly jaw dropping.

QLDC was such a fun experience ! this level is definetely the greatest one, i participated in the contest i was entry 66 if you want to check it out (but you prolly won't and it didn't win any award sadly)
I considered doing something like this on the world map for making a SMBX episode, where basically, the level was a litteral pipe maze taking place on the World Map, with a shortcut opening up to skip it after you're done. I love now that someone actually made a World Map into a level.

7:26 Pretty sure that's Jetzon's "Hard Time" an old song and Inspiration for Ice Cap Zone, someone involved in the production of that Piece was Co-Composing Sonic 3 with Micheal Jackson which is why it sounds alot like an Ice Cap Zone remix.

When I got into following the Super Mario World romhacking scene, levels looked like this just because it 25 years ago.
Having the overworld as the level... that's a nice idea

this mechanic feels like it should be the core of an entire game. i know we have toodee and topdee, ortho robot, and all those, but nothing quite so path-based and overworldly as this
