Today we are going out of bounds in the Resident Evil inspired horror game My Friendly Neighborhood! The amount of Secrets and discoveries made here are record breaking for a game placing easter eggs out of bounds. Best of all, the developers seem to be big enough Boundary BReak fans to even include the shows logo! I defintiely would call this the best episode ever for this sort of content.

Dev here! First, thanks so much for covering this. It might be obvious, but I have a love for these sorts of "behind the scenes" things. :) Second, just wanted to give some insight - my default for a lot of the OOB things was "if it's OOB at any point, leave it there unless it hurts optimization." Just thought it would make for more interesting exploration. :)

I loved that they integrated a noclip into the game so you can easily go out of bounds and discover things for yourself
More single player games should have built in no clip modes

I always knew that, at some point, some indie dev would stick a reference to your channel out of bounds specifically for you to find. Congrats!
And here I thought it was going to be me. 😆 But I'm glad I'm not the only one who decided to do it.
The giant characters OOBs has to be for you. They seemed to occur only in scenes with no other OOB objects and they put your name right at the start. Their love language is "weird stuff."

I think the two instances of the creature you saw are Rays legs. If you look at his character model he has a centipede looking lower half. They also stored it right above the tube where he can appear.

So I've got an interesting "Boundary Break" request.
Old-School RuneScape
There's an in-game item called the Oculus Orb. You can crank up the draw distance then use that to freely move your camera around and see all sorts of really cool stuff. And Jagex is totally 100% okay with it.

Spore does something kinda like this, if you go too far away during the 2nd and 3rd level, a giant creature comes out of nowhere and kills you
Also Serious Sam 3 too, if you go out of bounds in some levels a giant sand worm comes out of the floor and kills you lmao
8:48 Given the coloring and proximity to Ray's pipes, I would hazard a guess that that was supposed to be Ray's extended body. We never get to see his full body in the game as he's always half hidden in a pipe, plus the size is about right for skittering around through the pipes.

Ok, having giant, warped versions of the puppets out of bounds is actually terrifying. I have an irrational fear of out-of-bounds creatures. Not out-of-bounds itself, but rather the fear of some creature lurking in an area you otherwise wouldn't see. In most games, this isn't ever an issue, and the most you get is T-Posed models waiting to be called in. But THIS. This is simultaneously super creepy and also super cool.
8:23 It's actually related to Ray! I dunno if it was supposed to be his "body" or something else, but there's absolutely a connection: I've only played the Demo on Steam, not the full game, but this can be found with OoB there, too. Specifically in the section at 8:48, I found that hitting/shooting Ray to make him retreat would make the, uh, torso?, I guess, also disappear or shrink. (If he moved to a different pipe you'd see it over that one instead.) I think I also found the one in that "hub" room, but at the time didn't know the connection.
My guess is that it's unused content, and originally when Ray was chased off he would turn around and "scuttle" away rather than just getting sucked straight back as he does in the final.
Puppet at 3:00 is a bioshock reference LOVE TO SEE IT
The gigantic warped puppets holding and eating the rooms is truly Lovecraftian! Playing the game knowing that they are there beyond sight and comprehension is actually terrifying!

This genuinely encompasses one of my worst fears in a game, I don't know how to describe how much I absolutely hate the idea of going out of bounds in a game and coming across something you were never supposed to see, it genuinely terrifies me and it's some massive creepypasta type stuff imo lol.
The fear all mostly stemmed from when I used to do a lot of SFM when I was younger and there was this map I wanted to use that was perfect for what I needed it for, but in the description's changelog I noticed that it said "fixed screamer" which scared me so much. So I figured that the only way to trigger the screamer was likely that it would be out of bounds so I would just avoid going out of bounds when using that map.
Later ofc it turned out to be a joke but god do I still get that unnerving feeling whenever I accidentally have a glitch in a game happen and end up peeking through reality.
The rubber ducks are so freaking awesome and such a joy i assume for you!

That "Black Rubber Duck" is actually supposed to be a normally colored one when you open that cabinet the intended way, if you get s rank on all neighborhorde stuff you unlock a tape cutter that unlocks that and gets you into that secret room. Just for those unaware.
I love My Friendly Neighborhood. It's an amazing parody of classic Survival Horror (Resident Evil).
It looks like as much as I love MFN, the developers love Boundary Break. Rightfully so!

Hearing Shesez say "a rubber duck" for almost 10 minutes straight was not on my 2024 Bingo Card. Also, love the video, I have been waiting for it since the game came out so I was very happy to see this on my feed.
The hidden messed up puppet behind the boarded up door looks like a reference to the Spider Splicer from Bioshock. They have the same meat hook weapon in hand that Spider Splicers use.
The developers who’ve made My Friendly Neighborhood are pushing the limits of what can be found out of bounds. Love seeing them make the ENTIRE game a piece of art

What I love about this game is they didn't just make it to be "what of childhood thing, but scary!!!" copy FNAF cash grab, They made fun RE7esk game that was both spooky and cute. I also found the story to be earnest and endearing. Just wish the puppets had more voice lines.

If the indie games I work on ever include anything 3d and/or with boundaries, I'll definitely ask them to sneak something in for you to find. (So far mostly VNs and other really simple kinds of games where boundaries aren't a thing)

This episode is so fun, i love it.
A quick tip, there is actually another secret tied to the Cube Room, featuring concept art of Norman. I merely mention since it's so painful to go through the cube room, and it's not even always going to appear.
Edit: I found it myself while doing my own little boundary break after I beat the game. I believe that is actually the "something interesting" that the room mentioned. Note: I found the concept art before the duck message, but it took about 10 slow and painful attempts...

Amazing vid! 👌 This is exactly what I've started doing for the games I'm working on. 😆 If you see a couple of horror games and/or a tag platformer in the next few years by my dev team (temporarily named Kitty & Wolf Designs), feel free to search for some rusty boys OoB. Everytime I need a scale reference while designing an area, I use a version of the UE5 mannequin & when I'm done with them I hide it OoBs somewhere. The dream of one day making it on a BB episode. 👋😅
