Hey Phyllis, Yes, the Red Dragon is alive and well and hopefully we get enough training time to be ready for the hills this year. We are super excited about Disco's tutu and are so looking forward to Tutu Tuesday. I hope you have your tutu ready. :) Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Glad to see you guys are able to get out and ride. Loved seeing the Farmers market, I would not have been allowed to stop lol can’t wait to see Disco in his Tutu. MB your nails are a cute color . ❤Beth
Hey Guys (Beth)!! It was a great day on the Red Dragon. We've been on one other time but the weather here has been WINDY but we have a lot of training to do. I also have to myself ready for the Triple By-pass Ride. Disco will love to show you his tutu on Tutu Tuesday. He's so excited (not). Mb says thanks about her nail color. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Hey Mags!! Congrats! You are going to love RAGBRAI. It's the best week of the year. If you are staying with PBV, we'll see you at camp. If you're not, look for the Red Dragon on the route. And watch our Instagram (@busesbikesbeers) for a meet up or two we are planning on organizing. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Living in West Virginia now, but I'm originally from southeast Iowa. I was VERY close to doing this year's route because it goes through many towns where I have family and would have a place to stay, but the hills kept me away. Maybe next year!
Hey Jo, That report of the hills is consistent with what we've heard. We do have some training to do for sure. I'm participating in the Triple By-Pass in Colorado just prior to RAGBRAI and my training for that ride should put me in a good place. But Mb and I do need to get the Red Dragon on some hills. :) Hope to see you next year, sorry we'll miss you this year. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Hey Claire, The Red Dragon is happy to be out of the barn and out an about again. You are spot on, RAGBRAI is coming like a freight train and we have a lot of hill climb training to do. The beer drinking training never stopped. :) Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Hey Pavel, That's funny. Yeah, we didn't want to put expensive bags on the Red Dragon since we really don't ride it that much and we mostly bought it for RAGBRAI. Those cheap bags are great for that purpose. And I like it makes us closer. :) Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Hey Mark, That's great! You're going to love it. We'd love to meet you there. Keep an eye out on our Instagram for a meet up we we'll be arranging likely Saturday evening near Expo before the ride starts on Sunday. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Ah, we just passed IF today on the way to our cabin in Island Park. We've been on the river trail many-a-time. We're more likely to admire the Shilo rather than the location across the river. Yup, it's time to train for RAGBRAI. We're excited, perhaps we'll see you there. Brently, when do you go in for a bypass.
Howdy, That's so cool you passed through town and how nice that you have a cabin in Island Park, beautiful place. Have you guys done RAGBRAI before? What are accommodations for the week? If you're not staying with Pork Belly then please look for the Red Dragon on the route. We are also planning on arranging a meetup for viewers and subscribers, stop by and let's have a beer. We plan to post details on our Instagram @busesbikesbeers. Fortunately I'm not having by-pass surgery but I have signed up to ride the Triple By-pass Ride in Colorado on July 13, a few weeks before RAGBRAI. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
@@BBB_Adventures Hey, sorry for the delay; we lease our cabin in Island Park out during the summer months so we're doing final preparations. We named the cabin after our dog: Gnarly Bear. He's like a larger version of Disco. We actually live in Salt Lake City so we come by quite often. Yes, we did RAGBRAI last year. Hot, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We ride with Mercy Des Moines (MDM). You can't miss our signs; they are bright orange on cardboard. There are only about 20 of us. Hope to see you there!
Hunter!!! He is a handsome boy for sure!! Tutu Tuesday will never be the same after Disco dons his fancy new tutu. We are getting excited for RAGBRAI but Mb and I have some fairly series hill climb training to do on the Red Dragon. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
When on the Red Dragon what cadence does the team try to maintain? I know you prefer a higher cadence (80-90), but from past videos it appears MB prefers a slower cadence (70-80)? Working on a cooling system for Disco for the hotttt late July RAGBRAI days?
Hey Steve, Good question. Mb and I have a different natural cadence. I tend to run at a much higher rpm. She's flexible and goes closer to my pace but if it gets to be too much, she'll request a gear change. I'm guessing we in the 80-90 range like you. We are thinking a mist spray bottle with water to help him stay cool. I should come up with a automatic system using some of that small scale sprinkler hose and nozzles...and a windshield washer pump. :) Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
Shrew....took a year to see the Dragon again. Do the Ragbrai hills feel easier or harder on the Dragon? I sure hope Disco is not shy cause he sure gets the attention with his tootoo. Eating healthy is not proper training for Ragbrai. Lol. Happy bday, Disco. The knees know seat heights better than the eyes. You both ride at a higher cadence than I can maintain. I tend to chug and grind at 60 more than spin at 70, 80 is tough for me. Question: Do you swap seats if you swap positions on the bike? Those were not eating potatoes they wanted to be planted as seed. Beer drinking is appropriate Ragbrai training. 22mm, the distant cousin of the missing 9mm socket. Thanks for taking us on the ride. Be well. Thanks for the marriage advice
Hey Dave, The Red Dragon is BACK!! It did sit for a year but we've taken a couple of training rides and it didn't take long to remember how to ride it. Piloting it is very different than a single person bike. Hills are about the same, perhaps easier if both riders are in hill climbing shape. We'll see how that goes for this year. We've been eating WAY healthier for many reasons not the least of which is to shed a few pounds so we have less mass to push up those Iowa hills. :) Also, our eating habits degraded over the last year stress eating and dealing with my Dad's health issues. We're back on track now. I've always been a high cadence rider because I feel like it's better for my bad knees and over time I've developed a good enough cardio condition to tolerate the higher cranking speeds. We actually never change positions on the Red Dragon. Mb really has no interest in being the captain. He anxiety is better served as the stoker. If we did, we'd probably change saddles. I love finding tools on the road and when I got back to Frank's I realized I didn't have a 22mm socket. The road gods were good too me. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
@BBB_Adventures i know the stress weight gains. I rode last year at 205 and was 225 a few months back. I'm trying not to use heat on the bearing as i am hoping to save it for now. Need to get serious about getting it out soon. I'm trying to align a few more ducks here and get Albert into a nursing home for Ragbrai this year. Unknowingly, I missed the deadline for Ragbrai registration, so I will have to get one thru someone else not able to go. Will see about getting into pork belly or OOS in the next few days as well as the nursing home for Albert. Either way I should be at Ragbrai even if it means bagging it. I also have lost 15lbs but want to lose another 20lbs before Ragbrai. Be well and stay off the skateboards.
Okay, no hitting rouge skate boards! Do you know the exact route of RAGBRAI? I know its going to be the Roller Coaster from Hell. I know that part of Iowa, from Glenwood to Red Oak, very well. I know they wont use Highway 34. That's too easy, and short. Any ways, stay safe.
Hey James, Absolutely...no hitting skateboards. The exact route can be found here: ragbrai.com/ragbrai-li-full-route-revealed/ It does look like a lot of rolling hills, some steeper than others. Hopefully we'll be ready. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
@@BBB_Adventures Hilly is an understatement. A constant Roller Coaster of hills. I know that area very well. Having family in Red Oak and Villisca , and Corning. Years ago when me and my Mom and Dad drove to visit family back there. I took my Mountain Bike. When I could still ride it. And yeah, up and down, up and down. Looks like it will be really bad the first three days. Take care, glad I've not doing it this year.

Loved the practice ride! Random, but I saw two metal growlers (?) at Goodwill from Tap-n-fill. They looked in great shape.
