I used to be a good listener but after being around people who would rudely interrupt, change the subject, talk to someone else, and/or talk over me for years, slowly turning my frustration to rage, i ended up becoming like them. It made me feel like i didn't matter and i haven't been able to turn the clock back. I also drone on and on when i speak so i dont blame people who dont want to listen to me.
He corrupted my capacity to listen. Always at night. Incomprehensible, aggressive and lengthy monologues, going on for hours. Sleep deprivation was definitely one of his favorite manifestations. Thank you, HG
My husband expects me to listen to him speak about this, that and the other thing. But when I need to relay information or just share something, he acts as if he's got better things to do and he expects me to cut it short.
I was always told to give just the highlights. He would be very annoyed if I tried to tell him anything in detail. But when he wanted to talk about how great he was or how dumb other people were for hours on end, it was never just the highlights.
So true!! It´s exausting trying to have a conversation with a narcissist. Their eyes dart around all over the place and you can feel they are not listening, then they retort with something non sequitor or they ask you to repeat because they didn´t hear you. I’m an empath but I zone out often in listening; bored or caught in a trail of thought, I mask it and often the disconnect goes unnoticed. Not exactly narc material I’d imagine?
Now in the presence of a narc i keep It so small , talk is so superficial you can hear a fly buzzin. The number’one priority is to keep my energy to people that really matters
Narcissists want to you at their beckon. They only listen when it suits them.
I easily tune out during a word salad vomit session.

Someone with ADHD can be this way, too. Also, someone who is depressed can also behave this way.
