Getting a lesser sentence for “attempted murder” pisses me off. Just because he sucked at killing someone and failed (thank god and Ashley is a KICK ASS WOMAN!) doesn’t mean it’s any less of a crime. Why is there less punishment JUST because the person doesn’t actually die? He MEANT to kill her. It’s bullshit.

I agree! Attempted murder should be the same as murder! Just because the perp didn't succeed, doesn't mean they didn't try. I hate that about our "justice" system.

I am baffled at Americ's "Justice" system sometimes. It was MURDER. The ending to these type of situations is usually never good. I am soo glad she survived, but at the end of the day, "attempted murder" charge is just a joke. The fact he will be up for parole in 2024 is just disgusting.

The footage of them finding her is haunting. The way she’s laid and then just blinks and moves are hand a bit is heartbreaking. It’s literally out of a horror movie and this young woman had to live that. The amount of strength and raw will to love that this woman has is absolutely amazing and I’m so glad she is still with us.

*that is not going to happen*
because we’ve found you, we’re right here w/ you, & we’re not going anywhere w/out you. You’ve been here all alone, for 30 hours, fighting for your own life, but now, all these ppl are here just for you, ready to join the fight for you.

Imagine here in my country (Canada), max penalty for 1st degree murder is life with parole after 25 years, 2nd degree the absolute max is 25 years. It's an absolute joke. If your lawyer's good enough they'll downgrade you to a manslaughter and face 4 months - 4 years. I've seen multiple cases of double murder getting 25-30 years only, and released them on parole. Hell an old coworker got 29 years for bank robberies in the 80s, and yet murderers get special treatment. The justice system is so flawed all over the place.

Just because a person is eligible for parole doesn't mean it will be granted and since Ashley is such a fighter, I imagine she will show up to every one of his hearings with photos and documentation of what he did to her. Oftentimes, victim impact statements seal the deal for judges not to let the perpetrator out so easily.

She's magnificent! I remember one of their earlier interviews. It was, I think, a few years afterward. She was wheelchair bound, and had significant neurological delays/issues - and this was in spite of the MASSIVE improvements she'd fought tooth and nail to achieve. To see her doing so well physically, and speaking so fluidly and fluently, is a joyous surprise - though, in reality, I'm not surprised she's made such strides. I do continue to of course feel for her, generally of course for this vile horror having been visited upon her, but more specifically in this instance, for the numerous invisible constellation of ailments, with which she must still cope, contend, and attempt to overcome. This lovely lady is a 1st Class trooper.

You are really not in the know. She had no serious injuries. Her neck was never broken and the police knew this the night they found her. They even lied to the judge about this the morning Shelton was arraigned. Why? To make things look much worse than they were. Wheelchair bound? She rode on the back of a motorcycle to her high school graduation a few weeks later! Shelton made a false confession. His family was being extorted. They refused to pay. Just like the crap on sites like this, everything is sensationalized and an innocent man went to prison to protect his family from unscrupulous players who just wanted to further their pathetic careers and a family who wanted to line their pockets. If you want to hear about the real Ashley, watch "Ashley Reeves Fact Check1" on TH-cam. This is her boyfriend's police interrogation. He's not lying in this. She owed drug money to an unknown drug dealer, had had multiple abortions, etc. Watch it and open up your eyes. Oh, and by the way, two other teachers at other districts lost their jobs because they were forced to leave their districts because Ashley would not leave them alone.

" I'll be miserable if I can't pee." What?! That infuriates me. But it shows how good these detectives are at their job. In order to get the information that they needed. The information which ultimately saved her life bc they were able to get to her in time they had to befriend him. They needed to make this psycho think that they are his friends. The cops made him believe that they sympathize with what he's been through even though obviously that's not true. And these detectives did this masterfully. The undeniable proof of that is in those disgusting comments about not being able to pee in front of people and his contact lenses and toothbrush. He really thought that asking about creature comforts for himself was completely normal and appropriate. He truly thought those detectives would care about those things for him. The best part though is I know that since he's mentioned those things it'll probably be like a year before he ever sees contact solution and they'll make sure he has the biggest audience when he uses the bathroom. No toothbrush for you scumbag. I promise you those detectives will make sure of it. EDIT: 20 years is no where near long enough. Let's not forget that he is a teacher an adult who is in an inappropriate relationship with a child. That alone should get him 20 years. The attempted murder of that child should at least be 50 years. He's only going to be 46 when he gets out of prison. That's ridiculous. I pray he went into prison with the label of a sex offender so he can get what he really deserves from the other prisoners.
