    GUYS! White stones or grey slate for the firepit area? Vote here 👇🏽

      I love the idea of the white stones but how will the maintenance look. The grey slates would also be very pretty. See I can't decide! Lol. I just had a poll up on my channel to help me decide on a pavers with pea gravel or framed in pea gravel firepit area. I'm ready to do eeny meeny miny moe. 😂

      I think grey slate, white stones are nice but might be a nightmare keeping clean if your using the area on a regular basis 💜

      Grey! Less maintenance and the white could quickly get hazy from the ash.

      White stone for the contrast

    You need sub-base for the compactor to work properly. Will need to dig some of the mud out, lay some sub-base down, compact it and then you'll have a better base to work with. Makes a more solid base so you're less likely to get wonky paving and movement over time

      Thank you! Makes sense now … will definitely be doing that in future projects. 🙌🏽

    Alright, alright, alright! I've been waiting to see the Garden and a new vlog in general. Thanks, love your channel🙋🏽‍♀️

    Normally you would dig out and lay down a sub base like road stone which you would then compact down. That creates the solid base to lay the patio. If you just lay on sand it will eventually start to sink and the slabs will go wonky. Fair play to you for doing it yourself. I’m not sure I would be able to do it but this type of work costs a fortune now so well worth doing. The other thing to keep in mind is drainage. My house didn’t have the drainage laid out correctly so I installed new drainage and profiles the patio so that the water would run into the new drains.

      Yes great tips for long term patio. This is temporary so keeping costs very low and making it easier to pull up in a couple years

      @@ShadeShannon makes sense. The old patio we had was laid like yours and was probably down 30 years! The new one will probably outlast the house itself. 😂

    Hanging baskets often need to be watered twice / day in the heat of summer first thing so they have enough water to cope in the heat and in the evening , after the sun has gone off them and they have had a chance to cool down, so they can recover overnight.

    • @ShadeShannon
      @ShadeShannon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were doing so well and those few days of extreme heat we had I think were too much 🥺 I’m dead heading them and will continue watering daily hopefully I can bring them back to life 🤞🏽

    Hoping it’s camera angle / optical illusion but it looks like the patio will be sloping down to the house?

    29 degrees! I bet you are really missing the weather up here in Newcastle now, where 'gentle breeze' on my weather app nearly always means 'howling gale'. 😅😅 Seriously, you're doing a brilliant job between you and it will definitely pay off in the end.

    😂😂😂 who needs gym membership when you’ve got a rotavator!
    I suspect that was a new bee colony looking for somewhere to locate their queen (rather than wasps - bit early in the year for wasps yet)

    • @ShadeShannon
      @ShadeShannon  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it was so scary! 😂 I'm thinking of ringing a bee collector to have a look as i don't want to disturb them when i need to clear out those trees ..

  • @annettearties8538
    @annettearties8538 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It looks as if the space should have been spreaded out a little wider. Do you want to cook and have a fire pit so close to the house and trees? 😊

    • @ShadeShannon
      @ShadeShannon  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear your point, good thinking. I'm hoping that it won't be an issue as I'll only have the fire pit on when the doors/windows are closed in the evenings. BBQ will realistically be on the other side of the garden away from the house as there won't be enough room for it all on this bit of new patio 😂 xx
