5OCT Edit: Unfortunately I have to address this. This video is specifically about the tiny area of Chimney Rock. If you heard "there's no looting, there's no bodies or smell" this is in strict reference to the street we were on in the video. I'm not discounting the devastation in other parts of WNC. There IS looting. There ARE bodies being discovered elsewhere. I just spoke with the owner of Featherheads. I recorded her business in this video downtown. She says the rumors are BS about her town Chimney Rock that she has been in for three decades. This video is the epitome of destruction. It's obviously bad, we need help in this area, and I'm not downplaying the hurt and devastation anywhere else. She also gave me this organization as a safe/legit organization to donate to for Chimney Rock: shorturl.at/qFcmB 8OCT Edit: During the interview at minute 11:35, I speak with Chelsea. Her husband Andy Wells is also in the house. "The Wells Family has organized this GoFundMe to benefit Andy (Western PA Native-“Go Steelers”) and Chelsea (Western NY Native-“Go Bills”) who have experienced a total loss of their home and possessions." - Here is the link below. Please consider donating! gofund.me/8333f0ad 20OCT Edit: Gus and his dog Bandit were found deceased underneath debris near Chimney Rock. facebook.com/share/p/wxSNFd4TZMFccAzd/ I think a lot of people won't know what conspiracy I'm speaking of but it went viral so I had to ask questions to clear the air. It was starting to cause anger and confusion about what was REALLY happening in Chimney Rock. I was embarrassed to even ask the workers there but I did. Our focus shouldn't be on taking viral conspiracies as FACT but focusing that energy on helping the people of this region. I did 10 miles on foot this day to get to Chimney Rock. It wasn't easy. Anyway, resources below: Edit: I've made my strava route public if it helps anyone. I'm not sure if you need an account or not to see it because it won't load for me if I'm logged out: strava.app.link/FCEVnt3OqNb A lot of people have been asking how they can help. Here's what I saw October 1st: I think the area is starting to get saturated with very legitimate help. I'm not sure how many more hands on deck are needed but I could be wrong. Water is the obvious thing needed since water systems have been compromised/contaminated so if you can find a reputable organization to donate to for water and food, that's a good idea. I was in Swannanoa this morning - they were hit HARD. The river swept through there killing people, reducing homes to rubble, and destroying businesses. I saw random people there just setting up tents with water, food, coffee, snacks. I think that's a great idea as people are in clean up mode, exhausted, sad and they need these things - they can't get these items anyway because maybe their car was crushed, their road is washed out, power is out so grocery stores are closed, etc. People need fuel for their generators (lines are hours long at the stations that are open). There are communities stuck on top of mountains due to their only line of access being completely destroyed with no hope of it being fixed anytime soon. They're requiring air drops and rescues and these guys seem to be doing a good job if you'd like to donate - Aerial Recovery Group (links below). Wellness checks in the region are a good idea. A friend sent me www.unitedway.org/ as a way to sign up to do wellness checks if you're local. I'm not sure how that organization works but it's an idea. You can also look in forums and see people asking about specific addresses. Crazy thing is, this is just a few communities. Asheville, Hendersonville, Burnsville, this whole region, needs assistance. People are coming to help in big ways now, though. I met a group down in the river today from Myrtle Beach, a search and rescue team. I talked with some Cajun Navy people on side by sides today. The more the merrier. Aerial Recovery Group: secure.givelively.org/donate/aerial-recovery/2024-hurricane-helene-disaster-response Instagram: instagram.com/aerialrecoverygroup?igsh=MTM2eGY1bXFxcnh6Ng== Many people are asking what they can bring or what to donate. It's hard for me to answer that. Please go on facebook and search for a reputable organization, where they are, and what they need. Someone like local churches, Samaritan's Purse, Cajun Navy 2016, etc. There are a lot of good organizations here right now but I don't know them all.
Thank you so, much for doing this. I'm going to share this with timestamps so maybe we can calm down some of the anger. Here in Southern WV, we are hearing horror stories about our brothers and sisters in Southern Appalachia. Maybe this will help them focus more on help instead of anger and fear!

I am in PA and I don't have much cash myself but I have hundreds of pieces of good clothing-especially alot for the upcoming colder months- that I want to donate to the people of WNC. Please help me to help them? I lost both my parents in 2022 and I still have all of their clothes, some brand new! Thank you!

It's good that there isn't a bunch of news crews on the ground getting in the way. His impact on foot and an ATV is a lot smaller than several vehicles full of news equipment. Great video! I live in SC and my family and I love to visit Chimney Rock. The destruction across Western NC is devastating to see. I pray for God to bless everyone there and all the people helping.
As a Canadian who has been there over a dozen times, my heart goes out to the good people of Chimney Rock and the entire area devastated by the floods. Canadian volunteers are down there helping, I wish I was there helping too . . .🕊️
This is actual journalism. Our mainstream media should be ashamed of themselves. This guy has provided more in depth analysis than any other place or network that is supposedly our news networks in America.
There are journalists doing brave work all over the country and world, independent or not. You are just repeating BS lines you’ve heard elsewhere. You just don’t like journalists that are close the BS ideologies that you support. If they expose people and things you are aligned with, it’s “fake news.” That’s not reality.
It could be that the media is not allowed to go to these areas. With the equipment they use, it wouldn't make it. Always criticize instead of thinking why they aren't in these areas. It, also, doesn't help when you have a presidential candidate lying and putting out misinformation for his own political gain. Just like someone lying about Chimney Rock that Mark mentions in this video. I agree with you, though, I wish all news outlets would get in these areas and show everyone. Sometimes it's better to stay out of the area why search and rescue is going on.
Hi Mark, I really appreciate you taking the time to walk all that way to clear things up that we hear on Facebook and other sites. You even filmed along your way so we could actually see what's going on. So from me to you, Thank you!!!
Thanks. I watched your video, slack-jawed. In addition, our neighbor who lives behind us, had traveled up to Chimney Rock on that Thursday, stopped and stayed at a motel there. Explained, as he got up Friday morning, there was no electricity at the motel. He looked outside to the parking lot and there was his new Subaru washing away in a strong current of rushing water. Somehow, he made it back to Florida, in a rented car. We told him, thankfully, his life was spared and he's fine. He's 77 years old.
The infrastructure damage is beyond belief. Im in california where we have had our own disasters but i had no idea how bad flooding can be. Thank you for posting.
That's because the MSM are covering up for the incompetence of Biden and heels up Harris because they don't give a damn about all the Americans who are needing help and suffering. They are told they can apply for 750.00 as if that is going to do a damn thing for them when so many are still stranded and don't even have power, but you better believe all the Haitians they used our tax dollars to bring here aren't doing without anything.
Thankyou for walking in to show the damage. I am disabled so can not walk in to see what my friends and know what they will need. Praying for everyone to surive and return to the new normal.
Grass? The whole lot is gone! Her home is teetering on the edge of a cliff now.. where is she supposed to rebuild at? Open her back door and fall to your death on the rocks. That’s very dangerous.
@nodnik7 the fact that our taxes are not there to help is disturbing. The military is not in full force rescue operations is disturbing. Just like Maui, East Pallinstien. Our government is not here to help us right now. So many Americans need help and nothing is done. Take $750 and shut up. I would like to see the politicians lose everything and get handed $750 and told to go live your life to the fullest.

It was very kind of him to do that and save the person who loved that horse from seeing the body in a video. Kindness. We need more of it in the world.
That is just so insane, the amount of damage there!! I’m a former wildland firefighter from California so, no stranger to seeing completely devastated areas, flood damage hits different. It like she said “it used to be land And now it’s just gone!”
You’re doing the right thing… the guy yelling “go home” doesn’t know how much awareness and empathy you’re bringing to him and the community… watching from Vermont where we’ve had a few smaller events like this … what you’re doing is needed bud ! Keep up the great work
True, but you can understand where's he's coming from though. His world has been devastated and he's seeing people driving around gawking. He doesn't know who's a helper and who's casing the area in order to come back and loot. No doubt he's still in shock.
She also gave me this organization as a safe/legit organization to donate to for Chimney Rock:

I think a lot of people won't know what conspiracy I'm speaking of but it went viral so I had to ask questions to clear the air. Anyway, resources below:

A lot of people have been asking how they can help. Here's what I saw October 1st:
I think the area is starting to get saturated with very legitimate help.
Aerial Recovery Group:
secure.givelively.org/donate/aerial-recovery/2024-hurricane-helene-disaster-response
Instagram: instagram.com/aerialrecoverygroup?igsh=MTM2eGY1bXFxcnh6Ng==
Many people are asking what they can bring or what to donate. It's hard for me to answer that. Please go on facebook and search for a reputable organization, where they are, and what they need. Someone like local churches, Samaritan's Purse, Cajun Navy 2016, etc. There are a lot of good organizations here right now but I don't know them all.
God Bless you and keep you safe. 🙏
Thank you so, much for doing this. I'm going to share this with timestamps so maybe we can calm down some of the anger. Here in Southern WV, we are hearing horror stories about our brothers and sisters in Southern Appalachia. Maybe this will help them focus more on help instead of anger and fear!

Social media is doing a pretty great job of letting people see what really is going on there. I live in southern NC & have been seeing great coverage since last Thurs. of everything that's gone on in NC & Tn. Not so much Fla & Ga. but we have seen some.
The woman in yoga wear is in ABSOLUTE shock. She is in high adrenaline mode trying to hold it together by disassociating/disconnecting from the harsh reality of it. It may take her a year to cry?
@@exposinginsanity That’s exactly what I said. So many of our neighbors are the same-their bodies are in surge mode just so they can power through. If they stopped even for a minute, they might not be able to recover. Others are in shock, paralyzed and dissociated, or falling into sobs on the side of the road.
I’ve never hugged so many strangers while they cried, but now it feels like a kind of healing super power we all secretly possess and should offer each other wherever needed and as much as possible.

Thank the government officials in that area for that not happening as much as it should. They have threatened arrest of some that were helping fly out stranded people with their own helicopters. Watch Queen City news for the story.
Queen City news has the story no need to delete comments. Jody Barr reported how a pilot was threatened with arrest.
@@rainman6080 Not only that Queen City news interviewed the town manager (because the assistant chief was too big a coward) and she confirmed they told him to leave. Utterly shameful. Even amid all the devastation, I couldn't help but think how beautiful it is there!
It is a beautiful gorge!
I've played in those mountains for many years. Its a poor region like much of Appalachia but it is absolutely gorgeous scenery. Enough so that we bought our retirement land there, and the people are just salt of the earth. I'm in eastern NC for a few more years, and churches and schools like mine are all collecting and staging HUGE amounts of supplies for them - I'm taking a trailer full tomorrow, and my wife, children, and I are already signed up for volunteer help over Thanksgiving - we were heading there with a cabin rental anyways, and we cannot think of a better way to spend Thanksgiving than helping some of those people have a LITTLE to be thankful of: Their fellow citizens.

Its just mind boggling how some homes look completely untouched when most were washed away. Heart breaking.
I grew up near the Appalachians, but now live in Oregon. I saw the destruction of our wildfires doing the same; lots of burned down homes and a few that survived. Fire and water are no joke.
It is crazy looking to see one side of a building is fine and the other side is undermined or gone. I remember seeing the aftermath of a tornado where one house was damaged while the ones next door were unscathed. It boggles the mind how this happens.

There are journalists doing brave work all over the country and world, independent or not. You are just repeating BS lines you’ve heard elsewhere. You just don’t like journalists that are close the BS ideologies that you support. If they expose people and things you are aligned with, it’s “fake news.” That’s not reality.
That's normal. Drama sells
This isn't journalism. This is amazing, but calm down there.
The media is controlled. The hurricane was sent on purpose to destroy towns and make people move, because they want to start mining there
It could be that the media is not allowed to go to these areas.
