Garden looks great. I’m also a mum that loves gardening and helps my son in his. You may like to limb up the conifer hedge behind the swinging chair, so the greenery sits just along the top of the fence and keep just bare trunks along the bottom. This would create a much neater finish. You could then place ornamental nick nacks underneath. Planting may be an issue as the soil will be so dry from the tress however you could put place some of your planted pots there. Just an idea. Coming along nicely though. Well done Shade and Co.
Well worth the slog! It was great that Rob's father and your parents were able to help you both out massively. You can get a netting configuration to put over the grass to deter the birds but it is a bit of a hassle!

I have my garden bordered with red bricks (think they are called driveway block paving from Wickes). Dig a trench so that the bricks lay flat against the grass. Just makes it a nice finish for the lawn x

Grass drives me nuts!! i did a Winter feed on the lawn and in Spring it was looking lush..and now with all the hot weather we've had it is all dried up ...I give up! Your garden is looking a lot nicer now..well done!

In woodies, they have a thin border, which is green, and u just hammer it to the level of the grass, or u can leave it higher. U don't even see it and it about 10 for 4 feet.

I never bought the stones in bulk buy for any of my houses, anyone that I know that has , at least a quarter of the bag was full of odd stones. Great job done , it looks fab and so worth a grand, although I would paint the fences at the back .

OMG! Shade, keep that outdoor back wall empty, do not put a trellis up. It's just perfect as a Projector wall. A simple white roller blind, if you don't want to invest in a screen. Imagine turning the furniture the other way for Movie nights outdoors. Popcorn ready!!

Put some damp compost in a black bag with grass seed. Eventually if left in the warm (outside this time of year is fine, in the sun/warm) the seeds will sprout, then, spread that where you want it and then the birds are less likely (pigeons are a WHOLE law unto themselves) to steal them!!
Add an outside carrpet onto the older slabs, for this year it'll give you some breathing space!
Fab tips thank you! I’ll note that down that seems a good way to deter the birds. We have a handful of pigeons that make themselves at home in our garden everyday so we’ll have to see if this deters them but it’s a good starting point!

Looks so beautiful! We bought a rowhouse in Philly this year and our yard was a mess. Our grass was so patchy. We tried seeds but the birds ate them, so we ordered sod. Now our yard is tiny so it was only $80 for us. Not sure if it’s worth it where you are, but it was the easiest and more stress free option for us.
We may have to give that a try if our last attempt doesn’t work! 🤣

Tip: I found that when I put grass seed down and covered it with thin polythene (that roll you get for covering furniture when decorating) weighting the edges with stones, poke some holes in it then watering it everyday gets the grass to grow faster and saves it from the birds.

For future reference, you can get grass dye which you spray on and it makes everything green (makes the lawn look lush) - helps feed the grass too

For grass use seeds, soil and sand, in that order. Make holes in the ground first and water daily, ideally eveing. Your grass will grow like never before

I literally yanked it all down using my hands and a decent set of clippers. I think I’ll keep spraying the area with strong weed killer to keep at bay unless I can find a more environmentally friendly option! X

For some reason we put the top soil down first and then seeding over 🤦🏽♀️ We need to try it the other way next time
