This show is straight lies!! And these dudes should know this, doing a commentary on this, with out doing any research, either they are terrible at what they do or the want to instigate the masses and trigger hate. These are the people that claim to be for equality when the instigate more hate and more racism. They are exactly what they claim to hate. Film actor (referred to here as a teacher) Bruno Marcotulli portrays Bruno Wurgel; his purported girlfriend Carmen, and her daughter Rose Bloomfield (a child actor who starred on the Disney television show Movie Surfers, until she quit shortly after being cast in Black. White.). The white family in black face are all paid actors. Do your research, don’t fall victim to false information.

That’s genuinely a window into how some people view race, especially in America (and how it’s been viewed historically with race science and hierarchy). Black as the negation of white. In the same way dirty is the negation of clean. To them, they’re fundamentally opposite, antagonistic categories. Which is also why the one drop rule existed: since black and white are opposite and contradictory, and whiteness is “purity,” then the presence of “blackness” at all makes the whole impure or unclean, like a stain on an otherwise clean shirt will make the shirt as a whole unclean.

I feel like the show really shows the generational differences between the children and their parents, especially with the white family. That to me is the most interesting thing about it. The 17-year-old girl clearly has the most awareness of how the whole situation is fucked up and she makes the most sense of everyone on the show. It reveals, given her parents' clear internal biases, that nurture isn't the only thing that informs our views. Societal changes and contact with other viewpoints make a lot of difference, and the interconnectedness of our current society along with the information that we all have at our fingertips is helping to change the minds of the younger generation.
I wonder how she felt about her parents after this show aired, especially her dad, given how often he felt comfortable just fucking saying the n-word.

@@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 You can tell he really doesnt understand the full impact of what being a black person in society is like and this show has just made it worse rather than better as they claim to aim for. He is gathering excitement from the idea of being black because of what he can get away with. He genuinely thinks being black is as superficial as putting on dark foundation and acting on stereotypes and saying the n-word. He fails to show any real respect for black people or their history by not even acknowledging or asking about boundaries or respecting the feelings of real black people and only speaking on stereotypes. He thinks he's just cosplaying or something. Did he not think about how offended and hurt the people in that focus group will be once they realize that this white man just put black face on and pretended to face racism they possibly face on the regular and even used the n-word in his little "roleplay".
I also feel like maybe Jarvis and Jordan misunderstood what the man meant when he said that if someone cussed him out, he would start a fight. I think the guy meant that because he hasnt faced oppression, he hasn't been beaten down into accepting that treatment so he WILL become confrontational instead of just keeping quiet like a black person would. Which is a desperate attempt to seem woke but instead just implies that black people dont know how to defend themselves cuz apparently black people standing up for themselves throughout history isn't what has caused change.

I know it's a joke, and I did laugh, but I feel like this Bruno is EXACTLY the kind of Bruno we should talk about, because he's so.... problematic... Yeah, "problematic" feels like the most diplomatic term for him. He's "problematic" and does not seem to realize just how "problematic" he is.
Eh, let's just call it racist. Screw diplomacy.

Or maybe instead of "we don't talk about Bruno" it should be "don't talk, Bruno." Because that man needs to shut his mouth.

I desperately want to see a parody of this show called "Gay. Straight." Super tongue-in-cheek and over the top and absurd. I just think it would be a fun project.

TFW Jarvis thinks Jordan made bird noises but he actually just said “bark” in an English accent.

Buffalo news had this criticism of Bruno specifically:
“Bruno Marcotulli, the head of the Wurgel family, is arrogant and judgmental. Though the program and FX material make you believe he is Carmen Wurgel's husband, reports have surfaced that they are not married and he is her long-time partner. That distortion makes you wonder if there are any others. Carmen has been with Bruno long enough to realize he is unlikely to change his view that people treat people the way they do without regard to race.
Marcotulli believes that Brian Sparks (the black dad) feels prejudice is everywhere because he is looking for it. Bruno's attitude troubles Brian, who is just as adamant that prejudice can be detected practically everywhere, even when trying on shoes, if you at all sensitive to it.”
    And their criticism of Carmen:
“There are also some sparks between their wives. Carmen is so cluelessly insensitive that she creates problems even when she thinks she is being nice. She doesn't realize how politically-incorrect some of her statements are. Her attitude rubs Renee Sparks, who admittedly finds it difficult to let things go, the wrong way. The only likable subjects are the children.”

Apparently Bruno wasn't even married to the lady or related to them at all. They just wanted to cast him because he's the worst
