They should take these threats of nuclear weapons to the UN. Should be able to get virtually everyone to sign on to a statement condemning spoken or written threats of using nuclear weapons. They can also make another statement that use of such weapons after making such threats would get complete UN condemnation of any country using nukes to threaten or strike outside of pure self defense. Anyone who threatens with nukes should immediately be subject to world wide sanctions, Make it clear that Russia's actions in Ukraine are in no way defensive.
this could take several statements which probably already exist, but could benefit from being restated. Nuclear blackmail can not be tolerated and should be acted against.

This word "escalation " I don't like to hear it coming from our allies. Defending is not as escalation, Ukraine has the right to do so wherever the threat is coming from.
Unfortunately some among the allies still have their heads stuck in Cold War thinking. Big bad USSR was a different thing from today's hollowed-out Russia. Unfortunately, many in Russia still have their heads stuck in Cold War thinking too - particularly the expectation that Russian people should be able to go to the coastal areas of Ukraine to vacation anytime, and that happy farmers in Ukraine will continue to toil under the Soviet boot. Like the USSR, that time is long gone, but some folks are slow to realize it.

I heard someone say in response to the question why Ukraine had not lit up the Russians over the border with UK and French Storm Shadow and Scalp, that even tho we gave our agreement for such use our weapons usage in Ukraine was still bound by the rules that USA imposed. Surely this is not correct? What would be the point in us specifically giving our consent when it is in fact worthless?
SCALP/Storm Shadow is incredibly effective, but is in short supply, and isn't designed to hit troops massing on the border.
The US supplied munitions are more suitable.

The Human aspect of the Invaision by Russia, and the juxtaposition between the two countrys ways of life, spoken by the tech chap is what is important, and that is why we should always support them.
Imagine if Russian troops had taken over the UK, and were patrolling the streets and taking ppl for interogation, and living in your house, giving the lustful eye to your daughter. It would be terrifying. That is how we have to see it. In 2010 therabouts, a painter was sent to paint my house. He was Ukrainian and was saving up to go back to Kiev to marry his sweetheart; I just wonder what happened to him and his future wife. No, it's not. The US used 2 atomic bombs on Japan to save additional troops who would be killed in a land invasion.They set a precedent. NATO is not prepared for war against battle hardened Russians.
