    Sign of new watches? Just saw the Fenix 6 Pro 47mm on sale for $479 CAD (That's $387 US folks!) at best buy Canada. I am tempted but my dainty wrists need the S model I think.

    Fantastic video! I only upgraded from my Fenix 2 - which was very similar to the 1 - to the 6x last year and the old one has a huge place in my heart. It lasted me 2014 to 2020 which is great durability for a smart watch.

    I'm wearing my Fenix 1 going on 8 years. at 5 years the battery would no longer hold a charge. Garmin gave me a new watch! 3 years now into my Fenix 1 and it's still bomb proof. Tough as nails and unstoppable. Been through a few bands but that's expected. I keep a spare band in my desk drawer. Lots of new fancy do-all watches out there including the new gen Garmin. I'll wear my Fenix 1 till she's dead and can't be saved or exchanged. Killer watch!

      It's easy to wear and insanely tough. I work a very physical job and this bad boy keeps on ticking. Light stays on for 15 seconds versus Casio/G-Shock which is 3 seconds at best. "Hot buttons" give me the stop watch and timer at the press of a button. This dude says the Fenix has poor lighting. Subjective. I love it. It's subdued but easily readable. Remember, the potential for failure is directly proportional to the complexity of your plan (device). Lastly, I don't know how it does it but the time is the same as my smart phone to the second. It.s not solar or atomic and I don't connect to my phone via bluetooth but somehow she maintains the correct time at all times.

    Another comparison probably interesting is what you get for 50$ now (a cheap knockoff) and the fenix 1. Of course you don't get all the health stats and sleep and all this, but I am not sure how reliable they are in these cheap versions either!
    PS: and in health issues and training it might be better to not have info than to have inaccurate info. It will prevent you from making wrong decisions.

    Great Video!
    Still using the 1st gen Fenix. changed the map for an os map (freizeitkarte) and took time to customize the
    map by altering the Typ file so that i have a nice 4 tone grey scale map which brings out the detail.
    this won't work on the 2nd model with the reverse screen unless you have the 2nd gen special edition (SE) model.
    The only thing i miss is processor speed,the map is a bit slow because of al the detail.
    And most important i do miss storage space. i can only load maps of certain areas.
    so i have to load the detail map with Basecamp/Mapview beforehand if i am going
    to hike in different parts of the country.

    Hey Dave, surprisingly good comparison. When it comes to GPS watches, my first serious GPS watch was Suunto Ambit back in 2012. Sometimes I remember those years where pace, distance and a good signal from an external GPS antenna were important. Today I use Fenix 6 and I wonder if I really need all this data on a daily basis:) of course not. I still have a great fondness for the first GPS watches like Suunto, Garmin, Polar, etc. Thx & enjoy good day.

    I still use the OG Fenix, its wrist band broke but I prefer running with it in a pocket anyway, so I haven't replaced it. The screen is scratched but still legible. As mentioned, for tracking a workout it's still great. My main gripe is that the proprietary charging cables are not very sturdy and are too expensive to replace.

    Technology levels are great these days. Last year I actually bought a Suunto Ambit 3 peak straight from Suunto during a clearance. Use it for hill reps (and the occasional no-goal long day out) as an add on to the Spartan Trainer that has limited battery life and no barometer. Been very happy with it honestly, 140€ brand new cheapest barometer I could find.

    50 hours of GPS? Oh yeah. I cant believe what we got here 10 year ago. On our way to "smart" we missed so much. I have bought FR645 2 years ago with only 14 hours.It looks very similar in phone industry - when we changed 7-14 days battery life to 1-2 days. Sad.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's a product of internal tech moving forward but battery tech not progressing as fast. We're asking these watches to do SO MUCH more now while using the same battery tech from 10 years ago. Until we make a leap in battery tech it likely won't change unless CPU/Displays become incredibly more efficient.

  • @semiennafaa12
    @semiennafaa12 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont think so readability of display is really poor. Fenix 2 with black background (which could not be changed) was even worse. Also GPS track signal was poor. Real game changer was Garmin Fenix 3 which has most usefull function of Garmin Fenix 6.

    Let's be honest here, the Fenix 6 has a terrible OHR sensor, the screen is piss poor given its price, it really should have had an OLED! The build quality is questionable, definitely not as well built as my Fenix 3! When paired with a chest strap it's a great tool, but then so is my Fenix 3. Had my Fenix 3 had bluetooth, I wouldn't have bothered changing it! Fenix 6 is a waste of money IMO!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The display was chosen for function rather than luxury of an OLED. OLED would be awesome but I don't think we'd get the battery performance of 2+ weeks or 35 hours of GPS tracking. Maybe once that technology develops further. Thanks for watching!

    Great video and very interesting to see. I’m currently comparing an old pro trek from the early 2000s with a g shock and excepting the g shock part it has a lot of similarities like compass baro and altimeter. Hey can I ask a question … I have a kestrel 5500 and it measures “pressure” which is not calibrateable lol and a barometer which can be calibrated via known altitude. What is difference between pressure and barometer? Seems strange one shows 980 hpa and the later say 1020 or whatever…

    I LOVED this :-) I actually used an F2 up until 2 years ago. That one already had the "standard" menu layout. More-or-less. I loved that watch. And yes, the display has much more contrast, that is one big reason for me using the Instinct now. Can you actually put those maps on Enduro / Instinct / etc? I'd love to have those simplified maps. But I guess not. Also, F6 is meant to be worn 24/7, F1/F2 was more of "only for the activity" type. Anyhow, thanks for the video, have a great day!

      The Fenix 2 was a good one too! It was funny how they switched from a blue backlight to the red. Something about the original Fenix's had a lot more character than these newer versions. • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It takes a while for these things to sort of "learn" your body. How long have you had your watch? Is there a chance that you've used the "run" or "cycling" activity for activities like hiking, or trail running? This can mess with the accuracy quite a bit!

    • @jared17ds
      @jared17ds 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChaseTheSummit iv actually had the watch for almost a year now in December it will be a year... if never mixed any activites, but what I think the issue is is where I live its extremely hilly on the roads and over a 5km run I can easily get like 160m change in elevation .. I literally have any flat sections so it's either 5% gradient up or down and that makes me heart rate go to either extreme and I think it's making me appear fast than I am on the downhills cos my heart rate goes alot lower.. I haven't been able to think of anything else, if basically given up worrying what the race predictor says cos it's always 5mins off. Best 5k is 24mins and its saying 19mins and my Vo2max is 53.

    Nice review! And old Fenixes are great budget fitness watches. The 3 HR sapphire is 150 bucks on eBay all the time, and this for 50 bucks lol. If what you want is a tough multisport watch, I'm not aware of anything that can compete at these prices.

    From the garmin forms and my watch fenix 6x pro, garmin has some serious Bluetooth connection issues. I almost want to sell the watch because it doesn't stay connected to Bluetooth.

    Hi. I like your videos. I know this is Garmin. But if you do Samsung Galaxy Watch reviews you can tell me why Samsung Health app by tracking activity shows wrong elevation. Its minus 20 meters from reality. But when I use Strava app in the Galaxy Watch is all correct. If you have any experience with it can you write me the answer here please. Thank you.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's interesting. It could be that the internal altimeter is a bit off. Strava tends to throw out embedded data and use their own for elevation gain.

      @@ChaseTheSummit It happened after new Tizen 5 update. On Tizen 4 all worked fine. Route tracking with GPS is still fine in Samsung Health and Strava too. I watch your videos where you compare different brands of watches by tracking activity. Can you tell me how do you make all routes or heart rate monitoring in one comparison together (all graphs are in one picture). Is any app for this to join different graphs or routes in one place? I have one on my shelf. Beware it is a PITA to get the track from that watch. The cradle, the serial-minijack cable, and then a very old software, for which I had to use a virtual machine. :-D But... last year I tracked a 5h trail run with it no problem. I also love the animation in the beginning. And the display is very crisp. Mapping is much better than on a F2, for example.
